The year is 399 BC, and Rome is poised for greatness. However, its very existence balances on a knife-edge.
The Gallic Senones tribe, led by chieftain Brennus, are newly settled in eastern Italy. Ambitious and fierce, they are but a javelin-throw from the nascent republic.
The tyrannical Dionysius rules Syracuse with an iron fist. He leads the war against Carthage, but his eyes range across the Mediterranean as he considers future conquests.
Under the guiding hand of the great philosopher-statesman Archytas, Taras in southern Italy is reaching the zenith of its glory and power. Rome’s meteoric rise is cause for concern, to be sure - perhaps an intervention is merited?
Meanwhile, Marcus Furius Camillus seeks the title and powers of Dictator. His vision for Rome is grand indeed, but can it survive the designs of the young republic’s neighbours?
A crossroads in history: a time of threat - and of opportunity.
A time for the republic to rise.

Hello Jackie good work i see you from the last month. One question with DLC, Im planing to buy all DLC but those are integrated into the game or you play it separetely? Thanks
Yay
Hello Yay the DLC are separate games?
In my opinion, you shouldn't use mercenaries again. They cost too much to maintain, they have no discipline, and they route too easily.
Can you increase the game volume please?
At 13:07 when you hover over Centurian the saying "Pullo! Single formation" is from the HBO series Rome one of my all time favorite series.
"Get back in formation, you drunken fool!"
i love that duo
One of History's greatest Bromances
Lucius Vorenus was only mentioned once by Caesar & Pullo was only mentioned twice in his records.
He mentioned how, they competed with each other in acts of daring & bravery. Often saving each other during battles.
Pullo sided with Pompey in the Civil War and Caesar mentions how he "fought magnificently" whilst battling his troops in a fort choke-point during a battle that Caesar lost.
Other than the Belgae, Caesar never complimented any other soldiers quite like that. Which is what made Pullo famous.
wait whats it called?
Enjoyed! keep going
That was such a messy battle >_<
Thanks for the video tho! :D
Will be buying the DLC tomorrow myself and get some empire creation going!
Really enjoyed this, JF! Reminded me of you playing Arena; map overview BUT also "zoomed-in" action. Of course, here you also have the whole army at your disposal; good stuff, man!
The Roman Vanilla units looking good for a change not bad at all and the crazy ship is very funny the same old same old with the AI but except the classic problems this DLC looking good the start of the Roman History and stuff would buy and i can't wait for the mods to arrive like always we need some good old mods. Thanks anyway for the vid Jackie Fish i will give u a like pal.! :)
Good stuff JF!
been hyped for this
Ow there is also Ostia. Where I’ve done my high school. Lovely !!
Hi Jackie have seen some of your Rome siege battles... Great games :)
Hope one day see a new Rome 3 with Latin speeking during intros and videos as like three kingdoms Chinese option language.
They did add in ways to improve diplomatic relations with other factions though. You have to use abilities from the character screen. You can send people on diplomatic missions to improve relations, occasionally giving you a bonus....or 'betraying' you and causing a negative effect.
Keep doing a good work
È sempre bello trovare italiani in canali stranieri.
I can't wait for the other episodes!!
i've been wating for this :))
Duy Phu 😀
Love it. want more!!
A battlefield style conquest mode with multilayers cities !
That would make my life!
Cant wait to see more
Completely agree with you on the two stage "Last Stand Battles". I haven't saw it's implementation yet but if it's cool I hope they put out another update with it in other famous cities like Carthage, Athens, Alexandria.
Finally cant wait to play!
That cinematic intro when you start campaign is exactly same as when you finish tutorial mini-campaign ! This scares me a bit . Let's just hope it has as interesting campaign as they say, this era is just too good to let it slip.
Looking forward to see strategies and tactics when it comes to battles
nice to see them return to proper intros instead of just using the trailer (( also cool that they’re giving an overview of the situation like in rome and medieval 2 ))
Ur tactics are terrific 😂
Cool
Those campaign movement skills aren't exclusive to each other BUT they only apply to a general OR admiral. So if you get +8% for general and +8% for admiral and you are leading an army you still only get +8%. (leading an army at sea is still considered a general not an admiral) you'd have to actually raise a fleet with that general to use the other bonus.
Thanks for the content!
the cunning tree left side is for land generals...The right side is for sea Admirals man...please just read them bro...Love the content JF!!! Keep em up M8
P.s. if you start to get some resources to export ppl will start trading with you...
This is a great series!
And thank's to jakie the oly Roman Empire will rise again! 😁👍
Jacopo Bonfanti the Holy Roman Empire was Germany (pretty much just german territory)
Isn't it indeed weird how most of our general culture is from anything but school. Geography and history are kind of important subjects in school, yet nothing of use is taught. I learned how to read a map, world geography, world history, all that from games. In school when they'd teach us shit about romans and such I'd kind of already know from games. xDD
First love ur vids
Jackie love your vids and I would like you to play veil of crows pleas
I share your opinions on what to improve. But personally i believe that TW has come a looong way for the better. If CA improved the diplomatic, military and economic leagues mangement and vassalls sistems their strategy games would become my favourite ones. And if they added the option to change factions mid campaign (i know i'm proposing something quasi-fantastic, let me dream) i would never touch a Paradox title again. I like playing strategy games for their role play value; and while Total wars are excelent for enjoying very funny campaigns with pre set goals, they lack long term replaybility for me, considering i'm more of a singleplayer campaign nerd than a multiplayer battles one. Great content btw, i hope you go on with this campaign, looks great!
Please do a dor amroth last stand!!! Against Gondor maybe? or anyone really it doesn't matter, anyway i love the first episode of this and can't wait for the next
cool
invictus has a really good video bout how rome conqured italy in real life and i'd highly suggest the watch!!!
sure ove your camping!!!!!
Spoke to a CA representative about the ships having trouble lansing. They said it's a known issue and will be fixed upon release. Same thing was happening to me on grand campaign. Seems they introduced the problem with the ancestral beta
That campaign intro video is the same as when you finish the prologue/tutorial. Kinda sucks they didn’t make a new intro but i guess it follows on nicely from the prologue.
"I hate Ghouls. My father hated the Ghouls too."
I can't wait to play this campaign. I don't really know much about this period of history so I'm really interested in how the Carthaginians fit into the campaign, do they just suddenly spawn a few full stacks and invade Sicily or Sardinia at some point or do they just slowly expand out of Carthage over time? I've also heard once you've expanded a bit as Rome you can unlock hastati, principes and triarii in the late campaign.
25:15 They already have that, send your characters as diplomats to other factions to improve relations with them.
Edit: 5 mins later he works it out. 😄
Early Roman Military were basically modelled after the Greeks, hence you can see Corinthian Helmets and Hoplite units. Later on, they slowly evolved into something else.
You can see the exact =?- of diplomacy if you put your mouse on the colored mask under the faction name Sabines seen at 10:07. Although I always agree that trade agreements have been way to hard to get in the latest tw games.
Pls continue this series
Hello Jackie good work i see you from the last month. One question with DLC, Im planing to buy all DLC but those are integrated into the game or you play it separetely? Thanks
Hell yeah!!!!!!
Would be epic to get new city models
I'd be using Latin Swordsmen in early game against the Veii and the Volsci to consolidate a hold in upper Latium. Then I'd use Roman units against the other Latin tribes to the east and South. the Etruscans require more cavalry to counter but Gallic factions would need a mix of swords and skirmishers.
I see you play boy
They gave the menu the "Vae Victus" logo :P
Vae Victis*
Sardinian was the most ferociuos italic enemies of Rome the won twice on sea and the conquest of the island was really hard
I love Romans I love Italian history in total
Did I Expect This Is Good Animation can total war create some new like back Of The Deads
Rome 1 music too
bro maybe I'm just awful total war but I wasn't even on hard difficulty and I those first 2 provinces to be nightmare to take.
After this video I watched a video called The Rise of Rome by Invicta. He does a good job explaining early history in just 15 minutes! You should check it out since it's relevant to this series.
Jackie, I'm sure you know that you can send diplomatic emissaries to improve relations
I can draw a pretty accurate map of the world, down to small islands. All from playing strategy games over the years.
if you want one of your units to 'wrap around' or envelope an enemy unit you need to deselect 'formation attack'.
42:01 anyone else notice the Roman infantry do worse that the peasant mob
In a stream..what a few days ago? They said, and I think you’re using the same version, that the version they were using had that bug so assuming you’re using the same version it has the same problem. I’d assume something like this’ll get dealt with.
You just won a sub
I really want to play this game since I bought it 2 years ago, the reason I can't is that it's far too confusing especially compared to Rome 1. I have honestly played thousands of games and this one I just give up after the first hour since I try clicking everything but nothing happens and all the army does is loads of weird movements.
Will you do HEAD TO HEAD Stream or youtube videos in this DLC or even co-op
42:04 if my general units got 500 kills I don't think I'd need armies
most of those were routing units, he got his general to run them down.
so it's like a reverse starwars episode 3 haha
its hould be bigger
Noice, a new campaign. Be cool if you play the campaigns against other players than just the AI
3:59 did that dude just trip XD or was he shot XD pretty sure he tripped lol
Rome has tripping mechanic? Didn't know that. I would have thought he was shot.
For some history of this time period you can check out the History of Rome podcast on Spotify. He is pretty good at explaining the time period and it would provide a good context for the time of the game.
Yung Newt it's here on RUclips as well. Mike Duncan's history of Rome podcast.
make more of this
Isn’t this intro from the end od the prologue from original Rome?
I may have missed it, but do they still have something similar to the province system?
I fell bad for Jackie fish he doesn’t get enough subs for his consistency of videos
If they will improve the diplomacy it will be really usefull
3:37 Whats the name of this trailer? I searched in all Rome 2 total war trailers and never finded, also i saw other youtubers starting the Rise of the Republic as Rome and the trailer is not the same, why?
Wow you got an early play day?
I think that video is a place holder. It’s copy pasted from the end of the tutorial, which is set after the start of this story.
does this dlc unlock syracuse for the main campaign, or do I need the old dlc?
I'm thinking about buying one of these games. I tried Rome 1 but the graphics where just horrible it didn't age well..... Shall I just get this one?
Something It might be good to think about is at the current point, you are not playing the romans in the era of the Heavy infantry, you are playing a greek army in age of skirmish who live in italy
Slow motion cinimetics is key
15:44 I learned more from playing total war then history class. I'm with you Jackie
cutscene is actually from rome 2 tutorial :D
45:55 i know its late but why the fuck didnt you fight that ? That is a winnable battle.
Hello
How is AI in this dlc? Usually Ai is very weak, even at the legendary level. Total war is an incredible game but I think it is a lot ahead of its time because the AI is not challenging
I'd watch this if you chose a different faction but lionheart went Rome aswell and I'm thinking everyone else will
Peaking its head around the corner
*mentions Greeks and Syracuse separately*
Eh?
I wish they would to commentary in latin. It would add to the immersion for me.
same for me, but CA is lazy
3635th!
you name precisely one of the thing i hate the most in total war games, and it is the "fake" (who could have in the times we are living) difficulty
Remember many times when i have trice the cities and yet they can muster trice armies than i can.. feels so stupid and ... "fake"
I find that campaign movement isn’t really needed. I tend to go with warrior and commander.
The trailer video is from the prolong
have make a huge confusion with the name of "Rome" because the country was named their first city who was Roma , so the name of "Rome" is Roma aswell because yourselfs translated the name of the country and from that many actually believe the names are different. So the bonus is only for the city of Roma.
I'm enjoying watching your videos, tone down the "god damns" though, a little over the top this video.
do you use any mods ?
... it makes sence in that time line roma was broke as hell everyone was stronger if they made it more realy roma would be super hard to play as :D ... they were just really mean to others .. D
Does anyone know how jackie groups units
