The werewolves of Underworld are one of my favorite versions, aside from the werewolves of Van Helsing.
@ProToken 420 yeah Van Helsing is one of my favorite monster movies, I still watch it to this day
Trey Rex I see you are a man of culture as well
@@radioactive828 indeed I am 😊
Trey Rex I love Van Helsing
@@originalmings1991 same
Underworld portrays Werewolves and Vampires so beautifully
Yeah they are monsters not some adorable puppies and sparkling heart throb. I will not stain my tongue telling you what i'm refering about.
@@hamanotaiki3591 adorable puppy? Don't act like you wouldn't shit your pants if you were walking through the woods and came across a wolf that was standing over 6 ft on all fours...
@@hamanotaiki3591 you needed, it's obvious...
@@Eliiika Those aren't werewolves though, those are dire wolves. Werewolves are scary AF.
I don’t like that in underworld, most vampires are inferior to Lycans and werewolves. Only elders could kill them with their bare hands but even then... they killed Amelia 😢.
The entire series has always been a guilty pleasure for me.
Man you n i both
William at 100% full power would be a ‘BEAST’
Littereally
Sucks we didnt get a chance to see it
@bryan diaz varela exactly
@bryan diaz varela Well, he litterally lost his head, so that's probably why he didn't regenerate, the same with Marcus (who got totatly shreded into pieces).
If we assume that the "hybrids" (Marcus and Michael) are atleas as strong as William, physically. We don't know how pre-hybrid Marcus compared to Victor in terms of physical strength, perhaps he was already as strong as hybrid Michael (with him becoming a hybrid only made him immune to sunlight plus the wings etc.), but he was atleast physically, as strong as Victor.
Michael regenerated his heart after being declared dead. William would probably have been able to do the same had he not lost his head.
I always assumed that Marcus might have been as strong as Michael, but never was able to fully take on Victor, who had the loyalty of his banners etc and Marcus was clearly a much more "honourable" man than Victor. Eventhough he's the villain in the second film, his motivations where admirable. Victor had died, and he saw his moment to free his brother. And given that he now had the knowledge that he became a "hybrid" by consuming Lycan blood AND that it worked the other way around (Michael), he was attempting to turn his brother into one aswell, thus turning him back into a "human" form.
I would have loved to see a movie simply about Marcus before he met Victor etc..
@bryan diaz varela i dont think that works if your head is riped of
Not only had William just been freed from that imprisonment of nearly a millennia with no time to regain full strength but he had also then been badly hurt by Selene and Alexander's soldiers with hundreds of special lethal bullets that could kill and paralyze normal Lycans instantaneously. Perhaps more lethal than the bullets Kraven shot Lucian in movie 1. So it's fair to say that by the time Micheal came to confront William one on one, William was already weakened, painfully slowed down, and severely wounded.
In Scandinavian, Germainc, Gaelic, and Celtic cultures, William, Wiliams, Will, and Wilson, are all names that are directly and culturally linked to wolves. The term "will" is used in direct connection to wolves because wolves have a strong will to survive and the zenith of power cunning and strength. I always appreciated that detail surrounding William in Underworld, paying very close attention to such an overlooked detail.
In Slavic culture to, in Polish Wolf is Wilk ( read Vilk).
Beast Of Burden is probably the best way to describe a werewolf
I thought so too :)
I agree. Too bad few movies (and by few I mean one that I know of) about werewolves talk about how they are burdened with the ghost of their victims.
I know that Underworld is super corny and almost too dark to see anything but I absolutely loved the first one! Kate Beckinsale gave my little teenage emo heart quite the flutter back in the day.
Cielle Jaegar how is it corny I’m confused
rambeck brad
The story elements, the dark gothic vibes (outfits), the dialog, the love story, the fake out death, etc. I love the movie but it definitely checks off the corny box. That aspect gets worse as more movies were made but that doesn't mean they aren't good, just parts of the aesthetic and delivery are super clichéd and have not aged the best.
It's not corny at all plus I see it fine.
Wasn't corny. Kate still has that sexy vibe to her.
The Immortal Super Being
It's just a running joke about the franchise.... I was being facetious.
I never understood why the werewolves were seen as the villains even though they were the ones who were tortured and enslaved by the vampires.
It was mostly due to Viktor
There's a history parallel here. The same happened with the pre-Christian Vikings and Saxon (before Roman occupation). They basically penned everyone not of their faith into the history books as evil, dishevelled, ragged, smelly heathens. And till this day it worked. Vikings and Saxons were a very ornate and a lot more hygienic than most...maybe not to the extent of other European cultures, like the French and Spanish, who were well embroidered and would eventually influence British fashion, but they certainly weren't horned helmet wearing berserkers dressed in rags and fur lol. But it's how we still imagine it. Anyway, "they dirtied their opposition's reputation through records..." is all I needed to say. That way future generations can say, "I heard they were a bunch of devil worshipping pagans who smelled...eww!" Not only that but they took any documentation of their cultures, and customs and burnt them. This is why there's a lot not known of things like usage of the Elder Futhark (Saxon/ Viking runic alphabet) and its usage in context. Most of that was burned by Rome and the Saxon converts (the church)...especially during the Norman invasion, when English became peasant language and England under French Tudor (why English is largely French today). Anywho...the same happened here, with the Werewolves. Vampires essentially portray something between Nazis and Roman Catholics...both known historically known to take things in the extreme, for an ideal. In the case of the Romans if they did not embrace their faith, they died. The vampires have their own records and taught generations like Selene's that they were never to be trustedre evil and must be excited, thanks to Viktor, who dealth with them, since, virtually, the 5th century...but then Selene learned the truth. Well...so did Sonja, I guess. She loved a werewolf. Lucien then realized why he had built up all this animosity in the first place, when he sees Selene kiss Michael, it puts him at ease. Gives him hope for the future.

Rise of the Lycans is my favorite in the series.
Mine too
Its sad to have them make lucian the bad guy and him dying in underworld..n then turn around n turned out he was a hero in rise of the Lycans. I really liked him :/

I love all the under world movies 😌
Elroy The Gad last couple weren’t so good
Adam Jensen what does that even mean
yea i have to agree they were pretty bad like Resident evil final chapter bad. i mean how can you kill off a main charecter off screen like they did....
i'm evil and i didn't really like Michael that much so i wanted to see him die, also curious how a werewolf managed to beat the supposed hybrid who's power supposedly had no limits
Even blood wars?
Yeah i was definitely pissed that micheal could defeat william so easily, but you made me remember the whole hibernation non feeding thing. My heart is warmer now thanks
"Rise of the Lycans" werewolves are my all time favorite werewolf designs. :)
I wonder if William would kill a 2nd generation Lycanthrope since we have never seen him interact with one
He probably wouldnt since it didn't seem like he was hostile to other wolves and neither were the 1st gen
William is a beast of instinct and the alpha male of the species. As long as the 2nd generation lycans didn't challenge his position within the "pack", then I don't seem him treating them as anything other than more werewolves to lead on a bloody rampage.
@@wiseguy01 actually he is rabid because of the rabid wolf that bit him and he appears to be hostile to everyone except Marcus because of their strong familial bond. to other werewolves and lycans he would most likely maul them occasionally but wouldn't all out kill them just like how his victims and his victims victims treat each other.
@@jelanitate20 He is hostile to everything not a werewolf, as he was never shown as being hostile to those of his own kind. If his progeny, whom were just as savage as him, would recognize the lycans as their own and not attack them, then I see no reason for why the same would not go for William. Also, he is actually depicted as more cunning and intelligent than the other rabid werewolves. He did evade Viktor and his army for 200 years before being captured, that takes some intelligence. Despite the vampires saying he is a rabid monster with no self control, there does exist plenty of evidence to the contrary. Selene herself noted that he is more cunning than his savage exterior lets on, referencing his evasion of Death Dealer forces for so long as proof of that. He is a beast of instinct but still retains some of his human cunning, he could notice that the Lycans are of his blood and not murder them as he would humans and vampires. But I do see him enforcing his dominance over them. The Lycans and Werewolves are more primal than vampires, they instinctively recognized Lucian as being the alpha. I see the same thing happening with the older and much more powerful William.
@@wiseguy01 what i mean is that he is even more savage than them and they still occasionally mauled each other
We need an origin story prequel of the Corvinus Family. William in particular deserves far more character development.
Are you going to do 'Dog soldiers'? That's a really good werewolf film
I agree!
Gotta do a video on the hybrid species next
I enjoyed the Werewolf aspect of the Underworld series. I love how in Rise Of The Lycans they looked more like werewolves than they did in Evolution. I wouldn't mind if they did another Underworld film set in the early century while the werewolves were still around.
The lore of these films are fantastic.
Found your channel recently and have been watching almost non stop! Great overall content mate! Awesome that some one like yourself with similar tastes in movies and also their expanded lore as I and many others have, are making such a great channel for us to study up on the stories and lore we love. This is why RUclips is cool, keep up the great work man! Looking forewards to future content!
I heard you mention that the werewolves infected by William had shorter snouts and more harrier than the Lycans. However in Rise of the Lycans they looked just liked William only with darker fur. I know in Evolution they looked similar to Lycans. But I think that change in RoL was to make a more prominent difference between the two.
I like the underworld movies could make great lore and universe
Werewolves are my favorite sci-fi creatures but Kate beckinsale's buns kept me watching these movies
Love these movies. Always watch them when Halloween comes around.
I always wondered why the original werewolf didn't change into a hybrid after feeding on the blood of a vampire like the rest of them did when feed the opposite.
Always looking forward to these videos
Really great content and so much good info
Keep making these vids mate
Bro, I've been so addicted to your videos that I subscribed. Good job and thank you so much.

Werewolves in Underworld especially in the first 3 movies of the franchise are simply perfect
Can you talk about how Marcus could talk to William and understand what Marcus was saying, I mean if he was just a rampaging monster dont you think the fact that they are brothers would mean anything to him or let alone remember him? That's what ive always wondered, how could anything control him
Is it possible for you to ever make a video explaining the hybrids from underworld? Those were pretty interesting
As usual great video, here are a couple of suggestions for other werewolf movies
An American werewolf in London (1981)
Dog Soldiers (2002)

How about a video about something from the Witcher Universe? Like higher vampires or some kind of monster.

I really like that the underworld series mostly used practical effects for the lycans, not just CGI.
Awesome video, underworld is the perfect blend of Sci fi, action and horror
Another banger!
Keep it up!
Thanks Chris!
Wow that end scene picture of the movie characters is really cool!
I love Werewolf's there my fav Supernatural creatures.
Me too also vampires and dragons.
The werewolves and Lycans are militarily incompetent though, After their first successes because the sun rose, they didn't think "Hey let's attack at dawn with the sun at our backs, or even wait till midday", no, we'll skulk around at night instead.
And since the Vampires like to stay in fixed covens, burn them down or battering ram them in medieval days, emphasis Day.
In modern times, take over a demolition company and tear down the building during the day, making it look like an legitimate demolition site. Or just go terrorist bomb strike/mysterious explosion with a lot of TNT.
Just because a Lycan is tough while naked doesn't mean they can't use equipment, build weapons and armour for Lycan form, they have hands.
They could use heavy gear with their size and strength, chainmail might be an issue if fur gets stuck in it in olden times, but that's their fault for not wearing the padding, and scale is still good and thick plate is great. And carry ballista or massive axes ect.
In modern times a Lycan carrying a 50 cal machine gun or even a minigun* and wearing custom tailored Kevlar body armour with heavy inserts could take out a much older vampire. If you're immortal, taking the time to get custom tailored armour is a good investment, and a armourer in Lycan form could use their strength to more easily forge it, imagine a 200 year old blacksmith's skill. Or the expertise of a centuries old tailor or machinist or …
*Or a automatic grenade launcher or a vehicle mounted flamethrower or any other weapon designed to be carried by a full squad on a tripod or mounted on a light vehicle.
Or just remove the trigger guards on ordinary automatic weapons so they can still be used when your hands are twice the size. And that has the advantage of being usable in both forms.
The original Underworld film, they follow and grab Michael during the day, steal a petrol tanker and flood the coven before lighting if they don't care about the noise, or use that construction and demolition company they have turned the employees of into Lycans, or have day jobs as humans and get the experience, and then use wrecking balls and bulldozers to trash the place, and excavators to do the underground chambers.
The vamps wake to the sun or flames, and the survivors are hunted down during the day. But from then on its only prequels that were somehow greenlite to a short film about vampires being massacred by really, really hairy construction workers.
Everything you say makes sense, absolutely. But what if they were weary of humans and their superior numbers, resources, organization, and tech?
well one of the reasons the didn't do something like that is because they where trying to avoid suspicion they couldn't risk anyone knowing anything or suspecting anything otherwise spoiler alert basically the purge would have happened much sooner.
The latest Underworld movie had regular humans beating Vampires/Werewolves with tech.
Lucian shuld have kut Viktors head of and drag hid corps out side to the morning sun but nope he had to be an idiot i love this movies because of the lore but the story and plot makes them realy hard to wach
Just discovered your videos, going on a viewing rampage ^^. One interesting thing, on underworld 3 the 1st generation of lycan have a look very similar to william. Maybe as they grew older their wolf-like attributes became more important.
Well done. Thank you.
Really good video

Werewolves have always been my favorite monsters. A true face of *FEAR.* Looking into the eyes of the beast is like looking into the eyes of the devil himself.

As awesome as these werewolves are I can't call this series awesome in fact it's kinda lame especially the main characters we got the badass female with a mysterious past and her love interest who doesn't belong in this world and they managed to kill 2 immortal monsters who are pretty much their gods without much difficulty and continue to get power ups when the series continues hell even when the love interest died they got a kid anyway who is just as dangerous as her dad but then again I would watch this series over the resident evil movies any day
@@fullmontyuk I agree that Resi takes itself less seriously but the f*cked up with the latest films, the last one being the worst. Yet they have primary sources to use to better itself than the video games and just throw them out the window.
@@fullmontyuk But they killed Michael! So pissed about the way he died. God it was pathetic. I consider the last Resi terrible because they murdered every important video game character and to top it, it was off screen. Then in the ending where all infected die in front of Alice, some how she is alive. There's also Wesker who is a super soldier that moves faster than the eye can see and they kill him with a door.
@@fullmontyuk I don't see why he would need a clone of all people. Hardly ages, super strength, speed, durability. But oh well.
Glad you brought this up... as when I saw these yrs ago couldn't understand how Alexander was taking orders from any of the vampires as he was basically the 1st and then how Michael a cross breed although a decendant of corvenus but from weaker 2nd gen could dispatch of William fed or not when the whole damn vampire army were terrified of him.. 1dt two films were great 3rd bit poor no point wasting time on the others.. terrible cgi where as it was make up prosthetics early films which were much better..
Like hell is it lame at all.

Aren't the first generation werewolves suppose to have long snouts like William? The lycan are the one who are suppose to have shorter snouts. They had short snouts in underworld evolution even tho they were first generation werewolves, but then they gave them long snouts in underworld 3 and gave the lycans the short snouts
