- A conversation with Dr. Beth Harris and Dr. Steven Zucker in front of Donatello, Saint George, c. 1416-17, marble, 214 cm high (Museo Nazionale del Bargello, Florence, commissioned by the armorers and sword makers guild for the exterior of Orsanmichele)
There is nothing more i wanna hear more than both of your voices together analyzing paintings and sculptures. Thank you so much for the upload
Beth is always interested in the anatomy of different art and Steven is interested in certain technical aspects. You both make a great duo when appraising art!
A tremendous lesson of Florentine renaissance’s glory. Grazie
Rilievo stiacciato--first I've heard of this technique, fascinating. Thanks!
I was literally just reading a book about St George 1 minute ago and put it down to watch youtube see this video just released.
Saint George was a handsome fellow, I'll give him that!! He seems strong, dignified, and resolute. I guess you've gotta be to take down a dragon, lol...
The helmet edit was pretty funny, but well done too.
Always uplifting and educational without being stuffy
I love all of your videos so much!
Wonderful video as always, thank you.
Finalllllllllly ... Thank you so much smarthistory, please continue in this direction with the hammer and chisel 🌹
Are there any sources that have done a recreation of what St George would have looked like with his helmet and sword?
I would love to see that. If no one has done it, I'm going to hire an artist to do it, perhaps with a 3D visualization.
GRAZIE 😁
I prefer his Saint Mark
I used to admire these everyday as I passed by
beautiful
Hi .. you know .. erm .. perhaps my FAVOURITE sculpture is 'the dying
Gaul' .. Contraposto Completely Annihilated ! .. Great post btw :)
I love this videos ❤️
He's so young and handsome. Was the model a member of the atalier of the sculptor or a Florentine nobel associated with the armorers guild?
I came here because of an anime... Thanks Japan
