I am single mother also, and my son is named George. We need St George's prayers, these trying times, Pray for us, St. George, for the salvation of our souls.!🙏📿
Holy, glorious and praiseworthy St. George! We who venerate thy holy icon, beseech thee, as a known intercessor for our longings: pray with us to God, Whose loving kindness we implore, mercifully to hear us entreating His goodness, and not to abandon our requests which are needful unto salvation and life; that He might grant victories over adversaries; and furthermore we pray thee abjectly, thou holy Trophy-Bearer, to strengthen the *Christians of Afghanistan* in their battles, by the grace given thee; crush the power of insurgent foes, that they may be disgraced and brought to shame, and their presumption shattered; may they know that we have Divine help, and thy mighty defense made known unto all in sorrow and trouble, especially the Christians of Afghanistan in this their time of need. Entreat the Lord God and Maker of all creation to deliver us from eternal torment, that we may always glorify the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.
We have St Georges Greek Orthodox Church in Toronto, the first Orthodox Church in Canada! May St George intercede for us and pray for us. Thank God for holy orthodoxy ☦️🙏
saint george is the patron saint of the country i was born in. i have always been fascinated about icons of him. there was one time where an icon of saint george was found in a barn and the horse he was riding on was black and not white! caused quite a stir! now i have a tiny saint george icon of my own as a way to thank him and god for protecting my birth family who is so far away.
Hello Bojan, could you please (or anyone who knows) tell me who was that saint that prayed for a dead man in hell, and that dead man then was able to go to Heaven? You were explaining why we can pray to the dead, and that the final judgment is different than the judgment after death. Thank you!!
I had previously assumed that the story of St. George was a historical account with one story of a dragon thrown in there, afterward, but now that I've heard all this, is this by any chance one of the books of the Apocrypha?
This is unrelated but I have a question. What do you think about the Pagan Sybils whoare belived to have prophecied Jesus? Pictures of then were painted in Sistine Chapel because we (I am catholic) belived that some portions of the prophecies were inspired by the Holy Spirit to prepare pagans for Jesus. What is the orthodox and/or your personal opinion on this?
If you're looking for an explanation of the symbology then as far as I read, it's believed the woman in the icon is a symbol of the early christian church and the dragon which George is killing is a symbol of the death of polytheism.
Beautiful... but please tell me more about the dragon. I mean, I do believe you, but I also know dragons don't exist. I hope you understand my concern. Thank you!
I think I heard somewhere that some saint said the dragon must have been a demon because a dragon is an unnatural creature, in the Bible there is a precedent for angels and demons (which are also just angels) changing form or appearance, Samuel's ghost for example.
Some said it was a demon. Some said it was a big beast like a crocodile or a snake. Some said it's a symbolism of St. George protecting The Church from paganism.
Hieromonk Seraphim Rose of Platina commented on the matter of the dragon. It was a demon. In the Lives of the Saints one can read how demons can appear as snakes, fierce threatening dogs and other animals, and they can even appear as "angels of light" in order to deceive people.
A lot of people are asking about the dragon? Most very early martyrs only have names or only the slightest record, in the middle ages very lengthy legends were built up around these names and scraps of info, and since early saints were not actually canonised but instead received by popular tradition it is sometimes hard to verify if the saint ever existed. The most amusing example is st josephat, whose legend was later revealed to be a Christian reworking of the buddha story by Greek Christians, later Christians who didnt realise it was just a story revered him as among the saints.
@@James-en1ob Are you sure the dragon isnt like a cosmic image? Like sort of a narrative manifestation of lust or some other vice? and in that way St George represents the quest of all Christians? Besides, I dont think Demons can be killed with spears
