The life and testimony of St. John the Golden-Mouthed offers wonderful encouragement for all Christians. Through him, we are reminded that although the Church is holy, its members are still human, and thus, they remain susceptible to the temptations of worldliness, corruption, and heresy. Therefore, it is our duty as Christians - whether as a layperson or a cleric - to contend for the truth, purity, and unfeigned love of God within His Church, and to reprove and encourage one another in the Faith, just as St. John did in his time, not doing so out of arrogance or vindictiveness, but out of earnest love and care for the souls of our fellow believers.
Hello everyone! Happy new year! :) This video was super late, I planned to post it more than a month ago, but then life just happened. Hope you like it tho!
Bible Illustrated Thank you, Bojan. Yes, I liked it very much! I learn a lot from these videos. I am a convert and will be made a Catechumen on Sunday, the Lord willing. God has made you a part of my journey, though you may not know it. Our ladies book club at Church is reading St John Chrysostom’s book “On Wealth and Poverty”. God bless you.
Empress Pulcheria (Marcian's wife) told St Dioscorus "In my father's time, there was a man who was stubborn (referring to St. John Chrysostom) and you are aware of what was made of him", to which St Dioscorus famously responded "And you may recall that your mother prayed at his tomb, as she was bleeding of sickness". Pulcheria is said to have slapped St Dioscorus in the face, breaking some of his teeth, and ordered the guards to confine him, which they did pulling his beard hair. St Dioscorus is said to have put these in a box and sent them back to his Church in Alexandria noting "this is the fruit of my faith"
@@u-shanks4915 He says "our money is the Lord's, however we may have gathered it." and that God allows you wealth "not for you to waste on prostitutes, drink, fancy food, expensive clothes, and all the other kinds of indolence, but for you to distribute to those in need."
Excellent. The final prayer is really, really inspired. God bless you all and may Saint John Chrysostom's suffering, life and zeal change the hearts of humanity. Amen
I'm so glad you made one of these on St. John Chrysostom and another on St. John Damascene. I have often gotten them mixed up in the past, and these videos will fix them very well in my mind going forward.
Personal thought, I don’t think any secular government should be deposing or appointing Patriarchs or Bishops. It always causes fracturing and confusing.
Great and concise video! Thank you for making this to tell people about Chrysostom, he's part of the reason I've been interested in getting into the fathers lately.
Holy be this great Saint! Blessed his marvelous and soothing words. Insurmountable is the Wisdom of this Patriarch. Whose words are gold and precious. The precepts of which is to be exalted by the children of Mother Church. Holy and blessed is he who authored the Divine Liturgy, which is the fountain of graces and where God comes down to us. Holy be John Chrysostom, Friend and Martyr of God! Thank you Bojan for posting this wonderful saint who is the Saint of my birth!
Read his "Against the Jews". It's unpleasant. I understand he was speaking against a very pertinent temptation among his flock, but at this point it's... unpleasant and the issue he's speaking against really isn't much of an issue in most places. I love the rest of his homilies though! They are incredibly poignant even for the struggles of today.
@@James-en1ob I just read the free one online and a bit of history. A quick Google will pull it up. It doesn't really get published regularly as it's not a current issue and does not seem to be particularly edifying for modern christians. Particularly as some already struggle with anti-Semitism.
This was a really comprehensive and easily digestible video! Also hilarious with the Queen of Hearts as the Empress and the sail of Theophilius’ ship resding “GG+RR” instead of “ICXC + NIKA”
Problem with your beautifull site is im a priest and a sinner (as we all are) which makes it difficult for me to watch it for your mirror reflects my shortcomings so well 😇
As someone with Scottish ancestry, the fact that St. John tied to help "us" against the Arians is interesting. It's fun to think about that lucky alternate timeline where we stayed Orthodox instead of having to deal with the popes.

Marcion? As in get rid of the OT because the OT god is evil, Marcion?
@@oaktree2406 no. Emperor Marcian. The Marcion you are talking about lived in the 3rd century
@@al4381 Yeah thought so thank you. Peace! ✌ ✝
Ayyy a fellow OO in the comments section
@@TheCopticParabolanos Is that you, Joseph?
Great video. I would add that, hypothetically, if everyone heeded St. Chrysostom's teachings on wealth, then nobody would be poor.
What would that be
@@u-shanks4915 He says "our money is the Lord's, however we may have gathered it." and that God allows you wealth "not for you to waste on prostitutes, drink, fancy food, expensive clothes, and all the other kinds of indolence, but for you to distribute to those in need."
There would still be poor people. Our goal isn't heaven on Earth. But Heaven itself. The Poor will always be with us according to Christ.
1:17 blew my mind. That there were no books in in the first centuries, but scrolls, that makes the symbol at the ordination more clear
Yup. Even today, in Orthodox Church, they put the Book of Gospels on the head of the newly consecrated bishop :-)
8:01 is that a reference to Origen's theory that our souls are spherical balls of light? XD
I literally thought no one would get it :D Congrats!

Can we take a moment to thank the scribes? What great awareness they had.
To me it seems like an example of let a million flowers bloom
St. John Chrystosom, intercede for me to God the Father and God the Son, through the power of God the Spirit. Amen

Interesting you released it today on the feast of Saint Basil, the other composer of the two main Divine Liturgies.
He’s my patron and confirmation saint! Thanks for this video!

I can't believe anybody would accuse saint John Chrysostom of anti semetism

St. John Chrysostom? …. Oh yeah!
Thank you! (One of my favorite saints)
I love the drawings.
Wow! I love him. The Catholics mention him in conversion classes, but not to this extent. They talk a lot about St. Augustine, of course.

A video about St. John Chrysostom posted on St. Basil's day, very nice.

I don't undestand the comment about the plague of Celtic Arianism (4:50). Did I mishear or what is the history?

I'm not too good with history. There's too many names to follow and I lose track of what's going on. Oh, well.
