@@Leith_Crowtherno, they meant context for the game - time period, setting, story, etc - so the people reacting have a better understanding of what they are looking at and can react more genuinely.
It's such a shame that nobody tells them anything about the games. It would make their discussion so much interesting if they knew what the games are about.
It really speaks to the design of Rapture that they were able to detect both the heavy libertarian themes and Alice in Wonderland imagery just by analyzing the in world architecture
This os why I love but also hate that this channel does not give any context to people reacting. They can deduct things without context and make good deductions like those.
I also hate this. But maybe it’s on purpose? The reactors made really on point observation based only on the architecture and limited gameplay they saw.
Unfortunately one of the main critisism of bioshock infinite is that is really didn't go anywhere near so far to show the dark side of Americana and largely decided to go the "the opposite side are also bad extremist" weak angle. Well it played second fiddle to the silly time travel plot anyway, but I think the studio had a lot more daring ideas that were cut before the launch of the game. Atleast based on the trailers and gameplay we saw before then
@@MrInuhanyou123it went the "oppositeside are also bad extremists" because every revolution in history ended up bloody. Look up what happened after haitian revolution.
@@MrGizzyRey yes it was justified, im not saying it wasn't. Im just saying that the game did better job portraying revolution than most people give it credit for
Considering they only showed the introduction to the game, I was really hoping they would get to react to the "ending" of the introduction when there's an entire lottery dedicated to beaning an interracial couple.
I think what amazes me about these two is the crazy amount of history they know for they craft. They Don't just know that the style of a arch doorway is, but it's history, the history going on at that time and more.
i understand wanting the see what the experts can deduce for themselves just from the game design and atmosphere, it's very cool to see what they can figure out just from that alone, but at some point they need to be given SOME context. then they can take those little nuggets and point out the examples in world, or how they're used to communicate something, or the things that don't fit in, or whatever else comes to mind. people can only make blind associative leaps for so long, especially when dealing with a sci-fi/fantasy setting
When they mention slavery and / or Jim Crow in the bioshock infinite game, I was like, they better be lucky this video is related to arhitects because the less they know the better.
But that final bit in the limelight, whacking splicers jumping at you from the dark timed to the music, hitting with your wrench after equipping the wrench jockey perk... it's poetry.
I've said it before but the Art Deco style of Rapture is beautiful. And if you've ever played the "Beneath the Sea" downloadable DLC portion of "Bioshock Infinite" you get to see how amazing it looked before the civil war.
In the book they talk about how there are multiple layers of reinforced glass in rapture. Basically giant bubbles that surround each other. That's how there was a bombing in the Kashmir restaurant yet the entire area hasn't just flooded entirely.
I liked how they picked up the themes of idolization of the impossible, of a fake nostalgic America that didn't really exist even then, and so this utopian vision is also impossible and unsustainable. It's trying to make clear that this isn't an actual utopian vision of America, but rather a play on one.
Next episode can we have my GRAND mother comment on GRAND theft auto - next sentence said in a nasal califonria accent "well they both have GRAND in their names right" like yea..like yea right
Could have had two people that worked at a burger king and the video would have been exactly the same. The guy architect only said one thing about the glass being too thin.....lol
The comments about bioshock infinite were spot on, extremly aware of American history or rather aware of human history in general, just in general a very deep game. Gameplay is meh but just for the plot it's worth to play even 10 years later
it's pretty impressive much they can surmise about the universe of the game just from watching footage (as people that probably don't play video games)
Not really feasible at the moment easier just to cheat with large displays just have the ideal oceanscape with day night cycle projected on to a metal structure. I think Vegas or Japan had something pretty convincing as a concept to use.
This dude gives me the vibes of the type of Californian, that would accuse you of racism if you said to him, that blacks had better social status than Irish back then.
I found this video insufferable to watch because the so called "Experts" spent more time talking about what they see in the world and trying to understand it than react to the actual architecture of the buildings in the game world. I can see both points of the argument where people wants these "Experts" to have context an understanding of what they are reacting to, I'm in that boat, and those that don't care about the context argument and just wanna see the experts reaction. Those of us who have played and understands the games feels a bit insulted by "experts" going into tangents reacting not to what they're suppose to talk about. The only videos where it feels like the "Experts" actually knows what they are reacting to is Jeremy- the Cop, Israel and Cameron- the soldiers, Tim Davis- the outdoors man, Jordan-the ER DR, Gemma- the Martial artist, and the ex Criminal and other related experts.
