The grain on the body looks great, especially with that pickguard. Sand the body and finish with a dark tinted Danish oil. Leave the neck and headstock in their natural lighter colors. Trim the headstock into an arrow shape (see: Fender Katana).

Hey Ryan, it's pretty standard for P90s to not be hum canceling. The P90s in my Player Series Mustang 90 came from the factory non-hum canceling, and the set I replaced them with which are a set from a Tribute SG are also not hum canceling.

Great idea, and I was all in on ordering a kit. Until the shipping doubled the price. If you can get this kit shipped for around $100 it’s probably a load of fun. At $160 I can pick up a used Squire and go to work modding that. And have a body that will accept a more common neck. Still a great idea.

Don't know if you'd want multiple projects, but you could get multiple kits for the one shipping cost. A couple years ago I got some others together for an order, and we got four our five guitars for one shipping charge. Shipping was less then, but the principle is the same.

Don't worry about it, take a 220 grit sandpaper and sand the fret ends and the neck and even fretboard. Just always go with the grain, you won't hurt anything. Start at 220 work your way down to 2000 grit. I do all my guitar. When I crown and relevel I sand everything the whole fret board the frets. Never have a problem. Necks are hardwood, you won't dig into them with finer grit paper.

I did this kit a couple of years ago and around that time I had a Squier Strat with that '70's headstock. I really like that shape but once I had downloaded and printed out a stencil, I found out the HB headstock is too small for that cut. So I did a traditional Fender headstock. I painted mine in a surf-green kind of color (this is a surf guitar:). I had to file down the fret ends and a few months later I swapped the tuners for some Fender tuners I had. I saw somebody on youtube install a jazzmaster bridge into this and maybe I will someday. I'm fine with the pick-ups and I really like my guitar. These HB instruments are just very nice.

Amazing video, Looks are subjective but I would go for a sparkle metallic finish with a matching headstock. From a purely practical point of view, if you are going for a vibrato system, I think you can get away with a cheap but quality Bigsby, roller saddles, and locking tuners. The split shaft tuners on American Performer or the tuners on the new Squier Affinity could also fit with no extra hassle but I could not find those for sale anywhere!

The guitar looks and sounds good. The pickups are a bit bassy for my taste, but it could have been the Amp settings,.🤷‍♂️ Changing the Tone Cap to a lower value would make the pickups sound brighter. I'm impressed, as it seems like it went together easily, and has no major flaws. Dialing it in, tidying up the frets, adjusting the action, etc. are all things to be expected for such a guitar. Before you mod it to your taste, I hope you do a quick "tone" blind test with a brand name guitar in the $500 - $1,500 price range, with the same style pickup. That would be fun. 😎

Anyway, I stumbled upon a surf forum and the post was about the true spring that had just come out at the time and everyone was curious about Ryan’s opinion. Every other post mentioned “Ryan” in some way, this Ryan guy is clearly a big deal because no one is shutting up about what he might think about the true spring. No one specified exactly who Ryan was, but I have a sneaking suspicion I know who the prophet of this strange surf cult may be.

$80.00!!!!! Shazaam! What a deal! The shipping will probably add a fair amount onto that, but still. What a great platform to mess with....or .... leave as is.

In the manual they forgot to mention how to connect the pickups to the switch. It's easy, but if you forget to connect them you will have no sound! :)

I think this contest is intended for the Europeans in the audience. I’m still having fun with it though.

You should carve a brazilian "carranca" in the headstock. Maybe you won't win but it will scare away the evil spirits.

@@60CycleHumcast yes it would, lol. I would go the effortless route and use the cheaper bridge mounted B Bender and a wiggle stick. Might actually have a new invention if you create a B bending wiggle stick, 😂 lol.
