As a musician in J Dilla's city, he has inspired so many during his time with us! I'm grateful that there are guys like Karriem who continue push his influence outward across multiple genres...
So many people say Black Milk is carrying the torch after Dilla passed but Karriem Riggins is the closest to Dilla we're gonna get. Waiting for that next Stones Throw, the Supreme Team collab with Madlib and the joint collabo with eLZhi.
I'm a huge fan of J Dilla and will always be. But man, you gotta stop squeezing every single recorded file out of Dilla and sell it afterwards. Let his music stay legendary.
+Dillaville The problem is that a lot of tracks probably weren't "done"/ not meant to go, and then additional people jump on the shit and edit and master. That's the issue. Manipulating the composer (I obviously can't speak on Dilla specifically, but this practice is not unknown..).
+Dillaville his mom stayed with a huge debt after his death. She's trying to pay off that off by trying to sell his music. I'd want my mom to do the same if i left her with a huge debt.
+Dillaville Totally understand what you're getting at. But this album has actually been along time coming. The "MCA" album (i.e. The Diary) has been trapped in major label limbo for years and a lot of his friends, including Dilla himself, have been fighting to have this album released. So while I agree that a lot of the shit that comes out is superfluous, this is one that was always meant to see the light of day. And just in case you don't believe me, here's the rappcats press release: www.rappcats.com/j-dilla-the-diary/
beast artist is what this man is. please mr karriem make more music.
One of my favorite producers. Hands down. Underrated.

+Dillaville You know he died penny less and left a lot of debt due to his medical bills.

Good to see Riggins and Madlib backing up the album, sounds like it will be more than just a collection of decade old leftovers.
Is "The Diary" & "Pay Jay" Basically The Same Thing?
HOLYJIGGA Yup "Pay Jay" was The Diary's original album title when the project was anticipated for release in 2001 or 2.
