Thank you for doing this one in English, and thank you for explaining the full meaning behind this song. Before I put this video together and added the lyrics, I didn't even really know some of the words she was singing. While working on this video, I spent many hours listening to this, and it became really apparent how hard this song must be to sing. I could tell it is very difficult to sing because it is one of the only times I have ever seen Angelina look like she is being challenged with a song. It seems quite an accomplishment to be able to hit all that phrasing just right and on rhythm. BTW: the album says it was recorded Nov 2017, so Angelina was likely 11 here in the studio.

Thx Rusty. I was a little anxious, since I knew the french version by Aznavour, that it was very tough to sing, to tranmit this atmosphere of the 40's in France after WWII in a very poor Paris, but recovering and aspiring to happiness, full of hope of success and fame.
The english version is not so good for the lyrics, because I think it is impossible to keep the same rythm as english is much shorter.
That's why I thinkk Angelina did really great.

Salute, I believe good music is a powerful instrument to bring people closer. I
started listening to Aznavour in my uncle's house when was a teenager in Iran. I love many of his French songs particularly this one and a few duet with Sinatra. Angelina's performance as usual is a good one but as you said is only rehearsal. I can see she can develop on this song for hopefully big future concerts for music lovers...tanx

Thx Jette. I know about her age, but I took the decision never to mention it. Just like Killian MBappé hates people speak about his. Angelina'a talent is exceptional, no matter her age.
But in 1965, Aznavour was 41, but his voice and style nealy never changed. He had about the same punch at 93. He was just incredible. At he beginning of his carreer, he thought his voice was not good and he wrote songs for others.

Your English is fine, and I like your critiques, and also your glasses. I really like that particular type of tortoise shell. I remember Charles Aznavour and Edith Piaf from when I was a kid. Both were on American television musical variety programs more than once, as I remember. Also as I remember, Edith's voice had a sound that was very distinctive and different from anything I had ever heard at that time. I love all things Angelina, but this type of song does not really bring out her brilliance. However, I do like that she was not afraid to give it a go. All the best to you and the people of France.

There are so many reactors using English that I was counting on you to reach a French audience and introduce them to Angelina (as well as other singers). I would love for Angelina to learn the French version of this song and other classic songs in that language (e.g: "La Vie en rose", "Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien", etc.) as I think she has a voice that can do justice to them. This was a very comprehensive and informative reaction/analysis/review. Thank you so much for putting so much into it.

Congratulations, Emmanuel, for presenting your video reaction in English, the language used by the majority of your viewers, commenters and subscribers, now your virtual family!
If you want your channel to grow, it would be wise for you, in my opinion, to continue the way you are doing today, even when you will react to a French song.
You have no difficulty at all expressing your views, comments and reactions in that language, and it is pleasant to listen to you.
For instance, i would be curious to see how you will react in English to Lara Fabian singing Je suis malade (with the English subtitles, of course).
I do not know why you said at the 2:45 mark the Russian (version) of Angelina Jordan; surely, you meant the English.
Excellent idea to put Angelina's song in context by showing Montmartre, as it was, and to precede it by listening to Charles Aznavour's original.
Angelina is signaling at marvelous, supporting and inspiring camerawoman grandma that everything is under (her) control.
Even though it is true that the English translation is freely distant from the original lyrics, i was so impressed by its phonetics nearing the French sonority that i cannot help but salute warmly the translator, who did a tremendous work.
The same situation exits for Angelina's If You Go Away (Ne Me Quitte Pas = Don't Leave Me), the lyrics of the English version being voluntarily foreign from the original, even for the title of the song.
It doesn't matter, really, since it is a piece of vocal art, not an historical document.
Since in these English lyrics there are, generally, more words than in French for a phrase, Angelina has to run to catch up with the music, whereas, in the refrain, the number of words being almost the same, Angelina delivers powerfully as much emotion than Aznanour himself.
Bravo also to Angelina for her perfect fluency in English as her third spoken and written language.
I would venture to say that all the French songs that Angelina sing in their English versions and that are included in her repertoire have been suggested one way or another by her grandmother, or are sang to please her.
And thank you, Emmanuel, for your reaction!

Great reaction to this beautiful interpretation by Angelina! The only thing that always sounds a bit strange to me is the way she separates the word Bohéme, with the English pronunciation of the "h" in the middle, but that's maybe because I am so used to hear Aznavour's version 😉 But the emotion she puts in her singing is just outstanding!

great to see you back Emmanuel. Angelina loves experimenting with songs and styles. I have the feeling she couldn't recreate the original song because only French people might understand it. I think the French version mentioned "posing nude" for an artist and she was not going to say that :)
From listening to the French version, I think Angelina kept the tempo and the spirit, just not the lyrics.
If you want to have fun, check a rehearsal that Angelina did with her sister Juliette. Is amazing to see Angelina not losing a step during the song while pushing back her sister so she can appear on the video. She loves her sister very much and the distraction doesn't seem to bother her.... ruclips.net/video/q-esPeHV_gE/видео.html

Thx Fernando. I listened to both, I thinkk Aznavour puts more silences between the phrases. But this is really his specialty. And he wrote both words and music, for himself. Angelina adapted once more her voice and timber to this very special song. She must not know exactly what Bohème means, it is so typically french of this period. And I think she is very far of imagining what life was in Montmartre in 1945.

I hope you will continue to feel free to react here in the language of your choice.

But now, Angelina comes in and gives her own, different rendition, and it is truly lovely albeit very different; and, I agree, with English lyrics that aren't bad but are not nearly as powerful as the French original. • @squidkid2
    @squidkid2 3 года назад

Her story is so similar to Edith Piaf. Both started young and learned to sing in their own particular style. I agree the arrangement is a little too flowery and maybe she could have slowed it down a bit so the lyrics wouldn't be so rushed. But wouldn't you give anything to hear her at 11 years old singing a duet with an equally young Edith Piaf on some street corner in Montmartre. I'm sure Piaf would recognize a true kindred spirt. Your English is fine. We Americans have an old bond with the French and enjoy hearing that accent. And it's always great to get the perspective of someone who grew up with the original and can explain it's background and give a French point of view on the origins of the song. I think the life style that is portrayed in the song is what we in English would call Bohemian. There is a part of what is now Germany called Bohemia and it was a very poor place and I believe that may be where the expression comes from. Anyway I wasn't familiar with the history of the song but I'm sure if it was written and performed by Charles Aznavour it must be as French as wine! I really liked your video!

Instead of her like or dislike, I think at was a genuine relief reaction to something her was challenged and had gotten through the effort! Congrats to her!
