    I bought a used c350e off the strength of this video. I can honestly say I am not disappointed at all, still smiling after 7 months of ownership. The range is quite different from winter to summer due to heating etc. I prob get 9 miles fully electric. Typical mpg works to be 45-50 normal city driving. A lot more of you drive like miss daisy.
    Thanks for the great video!

    In Brazil, the mileage consumption is measured in Km/l. We also have ethanol and petrol available in every gas station, but almost 100% of the cars sold new, are "flex" (can use both in any proportion) and because this, they consume more than an exclusive one.

    km/l are a step in the right direction from mpg, but both of them seem weird to me. Usually you know how far you want to drive and want to know how much fuel you need for that. With l/100km it's easy. How far do I get with the fuel I have in the tank isn't really a question you ask yourself often, unless you are on the run ;) .

      mullahviking, I doubt that you actually meant 1 mile=10km, but that's the way I read your comment. One mile is about 1.61 km. The beginning of your comment is confusing, too.

      Dave Riley In norway Mil is another term for 10KM not to be confused with mile.

    • @daveriley6310
      @daveriley6310 8 лет назад +1

      My apologies. I wasn't familiar with the term mil being used to mean 10 km. In the U.S. we commonly use the measurement mil to denote thickness of 0.001 (or 1/1000) inch, and in some professions meaning a certain tiny angle, though there are several different definitions, one of which is 1/6400 of a degree. Thanks for telling me another meaning. For myself, I'm beginning to use watt hours per mile or, alternatively, miles per kWh..

In an old Mercedes S320, the auto lock is damped, so it is soft and non-abrupt. (when I test the Genesis G80, this is also what I notice, an adrupt CLICK for the auto-lock)

I have heard many drivers are only getting 35/40mpg but I have a 19.5 mile commute and i am seeing the equivalent of just over 100mpg over my 5 months of ownership, but we are talking well over 100 charge cycles in there.

      @fullychargedshow  8 лет назад +6

      I think we have to accept that the only people who could be relied upon to give accurate fuel economy figures are the people whop drive them regularly. I'd love to do a test in a car but it's really hard. You need to drain the tank, add exactly one gallon and then see how far you get.
      Which is why I tried this in a lawn mower.

      I've got one of these and on a 100 mile motorway drive (somewhere near the speed limit) I'll average around 50mpg if I start with a full battery. It's great for shorter trips as my commute is 12 miles so pure electric for most of my driving, but on longer runs it drops down a fair bit. In the Sport+ mode you can easily find yourself dipping below 30mpg though so I rarely switch from the default mode. I've never managed to see the 19 mile range either, it's usually 14 - 16 miles. None of the car mags or fully charged have yet worked out actual fuel used and added total electricity taken from grid to work out true energy consumption for a PHEV vehicle. The ridiculous NEDC ignore energy taken to charge battery so you get stupidly high "mpg". The outlandish phib beloved of ecotricity gets 28 mpg real world petrol only use according to Auto Express but recent mags still go with NEDC nonsense.

It makes much more sense to know how many kilometers you can drive with one litre of fuel, because when you go to a gas station you buy litres and not kilometers.

    L/100km is just fine Robert.
    Just for reference, my diesel E46 does around 8L/100Km. I have an heavy foot. I don't know what sensible driving is. Sorry green freeks who don't shower to save the rain forest, I'm not gonna live twice and I intend to squeeze every bit of enjoyment out of this life.
    Me and many of your viewers have no clue at all what it means when you say 99.9mpg. I know a mile is roughly 1.6km. A gallon... I'm a complete ignorant regarding that. Outside the UK, as far as I'm aware, only US uses gallons, and even there it's a different volume to the UK. Fully charged on the other hand is viewed all over the world, I hope.
    Sorry if it sounds like a rant, it isn't. I really enjoy viewing the show, it keeps people updated with the progress of, well, the future of our day to day.

    That's interesting that Phil has driven 1000 electric miles out of the total of 3000 driven. Is that electricity from plugging in and/or charging in hybrid mode?

      I doubt it. Why did we adopt KWh for EV energy storage when the SI unit is the Joule, or in the case of traction batteries MJ. We start with a clean sheet and we can't even get that correct. Don't get me started on charging standards and associated plug/sockets. Someone once said (in another context) "the great thing about standards is that there are so many everyone can have one each". It was ever thus and likely always will be.

    I know you said you wouldn't believe what Mercedes drivers tell you, but my C250d generally averages 50mpg. It's amazing what they get out of cars now with stop-start engines & such. Not to denigrate the C350e, I'd love one, but we do enough motorway runs that it sounds like we mightn't save enough - not as much as we'd save with a pure electric car with greater electric range.

    This looks like a car , Huzza!! A full electric one would be ideal.. Phil gets an amazing amount of use out of the electric motor at 1k miles out of 3 k . can you tell me if the motor is brushless?
    Shame on Mercedes not lending one .. I hope they , and other electric vehicle manufacturers realise the potential sales from a simple week long loan . All the best with your endeavours.

    Appreciate the km/l very much, although we would prefer how many liters are being used per 100km, since this is the official measurement, l/100km.

    My next car was gonna be a C350 CDI and I was planning on mapping it, so it makes 300+ horsepower. Sadly because of all the dieselgate nonsense and the impending diesel bans... I have to buy something else. And since I don't have enough money to buy and run an AMG, I'll just have to settle for a hybrid. Still a great car tho... Extremely comfortable, looks brilliant, drives brilliant and if you leave it in Individual mode, you have more control over the hybrid system. Cause if you leave it normal (hybrid) mode, the engine turns on and off every 5 seconds and I doubt that's good for the starter and the engine temperature. And the best part, those glorious 600Nm... When I put my foot down, the C350e will have the same punch as it's evil V6 diesel brother. And in Germany, you get free charging points, you can use bus lanes and you get very low taxes and low insurance premiums, cause nobody hoons a hybrid, or electric car. I could also get a few extra horsepowers with a remap on a C350e... I won't buy it to pretend to save the world. I'm gonna buy it as an alternative to a quick and fun diesel car. I welcome fun and quick hybrids...

    From a UK perspective. Since we do not use kilometres for distance or gallons for volume, miles per litre makes more sense. This is 13.4mpl

  • @ferkeap
    @ferkeap 8 лет назад

    For km/l we use a normal (1.4i) car would do 10km/1l - 15km/1L , we would turn that around and say it would do 1 on 10, 1 on 15 (1:10-1:15) Like you would say about the oil-gas mixture for 2-takt motor for mopets outboard motors. Since you have to explain the liters wich is automatically km's. YOu could also say " it does 1 on 10-15k" k stands for km's. understandable since your talking about distance.

    What's the charging rate? I stopped at a motorway services once. Last year one of these cars just beat me to the electric pump. Thank God the AC side was broken, so he drove off. Parked next to one charging at an ordinary post last month, it didn't seem like a fast charge.

    Rob,
    I am wary of technology that utilises Sat Nav input to make driving suggestions since my Sat Nav thingy tried to get me to turn right through a 1.5M concrete barrier across the 4 lanes of oncoming traffic then drop 15M onto the road beneath, that it wanted to use as the fastest route to my destination.
    Cheers Eric

    As i'm sure you are aware Robert, "Extra Urban" refers to a specific portion on the legally mandated European Drive cycle, over which emissions and consumption are measured. The "Extra Urban" portion is the higher average speed section at the of the test (the "urban" bit is the 3 repeats of 3 "hills" at the start of the test, which are very low speed and mean't to represent driving in town.
