I like your style of presentation. Thanks for the comparison! Now, Fantic, I'd like to have the 700 with the headlight and color options of the 500, pretty please.
Man it's getting hard to choose a new bike these days. So many good choices on offer. The Fantic 700 is another class of bike compared to the 400s, Ninja, KTMs, Triumphs, but the CP2 motor is a really good one. With the improvements to the dash information,(I like to have a better idea how much fuel I have), I lean more towards the Fantic 700, but really, the 500 seems a treat to. I need to buy a farm with a lot of shed space.
I would pick the 500 after my eyes, ear, heart and the weight, but definitely the 700 is the better choice after my brain and value for the money! Great comparison mate! 🙂
Thanks Lazlo, I think your heart would say 700, yes it's worse in some ways and not a great off road bike but you'd have fun everytime you went for a ride and even everytime you looked in your garage! Amazing bike.
I've ridden 15,000 kilometres on my 500 Fast Track around the hills and mountains of Portugal and my verdict? It's a masterpiece. Yes, I'm exaggerating a little, but it's an absolute blast, so much fun, and I just couldn't think of ever selling it. It's just too good. The lead broquet I added to the fuel tank, to enrich the fuel, makes it sharper, and I've added heated grips and a radiator cover.
@@MindfulMotorcyclist It was 'a thing' in the UK back when unleaded was introduced. IIRC Performance Bikes did dyno tests and found it made no difference to anything
The 500 is a great second bike. Love it .. on and off road. I reckon the 700 will be a great 'only' bike or starter bike. That Yammy engine is a top class bit of kit.
In the 500 range there are also more colours and options. You've got the Deluxe, 50th anniversary and then the Rally and Explorer versions. The last two have more trick bits for green laning... I've got a video showing them all 😃
Sure the engine in the 500 is made by the same people that do some of the smaller bmw engines? So glad you have a video comparing them as im looking at the fantic bikes
This motor is the Zongshen NC450 which is quite a new motor. I believe Zongshen have a partnership with HD. It's Loncin that are building BMW 750 and 850GS engines. I think CFmoto are building KTM so everyone has a partnership somewhere 😀
@@MindfulMotorcyclistHi! I've got a 2019 Flat Track in black. I bought it second hand about a year ago. It's a great little bike, best looker of the bunch (IMO!) Just letting you know, A litre of petrol weighs around 702 grams, so 13 litres of fuel weighs around 9.126 kg.... It's only water that weighs a kilo per litre..

Caballero is more off road, much nicer finished but the Triumph is cheaper and more mass market. The Triumph might have a slightly better engine but I've not compared stats. Hi Lipsee, thanks for the comment. All valid points and it's nice to have a contrasting view and important to critically look at something. The speedo does draw some criticism, that is something I've heard before. When the 450 Himmy comes then that will be a real alternative... 40hp and RE charm... I'm excited to see this bike.
@@MindfulMotorcyclist Errrrr The 450 Him,,,,for myself its a bigg no no... The charm of the Himalayan is the Long stroke engine, designed for India,,, a 40hp motor is really a short stroke Japanese engine (think DR400) not the same thing at all.. but I have been wrong before ,so lets see !!!!
I rode the 500 on a group test for an online publication a couple of years ago and it was an absolute blast. You are correct, in my opinion, about the clock as it was too small for my eyes. The fit and finish of the bike was excellent on the one I rode and indeed it was impressively so. The screw heads on this one may be an anolmoly but far from being unique in todays market. There was a Himalayan on that same group test, which we did in Croatia ,and with a lot of trail riding in it. I really wanted to like the RE and I did but in the final summing up it is let down by its lack of get and up go. The Fantic 500 is not a powerful bike on paper but it was far more capable than the Himalayan was of getting through anything even resembling non paved surfaces, and generally more fun. As I say I do like the Himalayan but it is definitely more of an example of form over function with its pseudo dual trail styling, and is at its best when purely kept on the road.
Thanks for the review. It's about the weight. Out of that reason for me any time the Caballero 500. With 180kg for the Triumph, I would -in that weight class- certainly go for the Caballero 700 or the XSR700, Duc, ...
