I know this is old as hell, but... I watched that video, I've never soldered anything other than copper plumbing before. I got the tools, bought 10 of those tiny parts that were bad (they're cheap enough, definitely buy more than you need, I lost 2 and broke one), and gave it a shot. I had 2 Hue lightstrips that were bad, one kept the warm white on constantly, one kept the cool white on. It took me about 20 minutes to replace the 2 bad MOSFETs, and both lightstrips are working perfectly now!
Thank you so much for this! We have had so many problems getting these strips installed. Part now ordered.. thanks for the link too! Fingers crossed that the project can be completed. We would have been lost without this truly helpful video
Thanks for the explanation and everything, I went crazy about why my lights stayed on green after Y cut a cable without turning the power off. However, buying a reel of these mosfets was not an option after a long evening of checking code specs for smds, I found one that had the same spec on an old laptop, so I desoldered from the laptop into the controller and it works now! TL;DR: used an old laptop to source a replacement mosfet.
Excellent video. Unfortunately I don’t have the tools or skills to succeed. I’ve managed to get the busted part off but have not succeeded getting the new one on. Does anyone know if it’s dangerous to leave this off and just use it with the limited colours?
Hello :) Thank's to your video i managed to order some part and fix my contrôler. I shorted the warm white with the power line because of a bad 90% connector, and could not find any replacement or worthwhile used on ebay. After some digging i manage to order a row of transistor from aliexpress (mouser and co only had 20+€ for shipping) and the swap was pretty easy considering the size of the thing.
I have the exact same issue with my lightstrip plus and the cool white staying on. However... when I check the Mosfets with the multimeter, none of them seem to be damaged and they are still open channel. Any other ideas what it could be? Thanks

Hi, big thanks for this video. it was really useful. By the way - I have another one lightstrip like this on video, but it's completely dead. After plugging in to power nothing happens. Do you know what can be reason of this failure? Or what type of electronic component may need to be replaced?
Same here Sir, following exactly your steps learned how to use my multimeter, saving my Hue and soldering that is, myself being a total soldering-dummy! Thank you for that excellent lesson turning from frustration to fun with satisfaction. 😊👍🏼
Yep, if you don't have any spare transistors, you can remove the faulty one, and that LED channel will just remain always off, however it's probably easier to just cut the wire to the left of the transistor if you want to disable the channel. Leaving the faulty transistor in place shouldn't cause any harm.
This is a great video. I watched it twice & saved it but the video errs out now. It's frozen on the start image. It'd be great if another one was uploaded. There's not another one like this on RUclips
David Skarbrevik Yes it is. You won’t be able to solder the MOSFETS without either damaging them, shorting them or desoldering neighbouring components with an iron.
Y. W. I haven’t experienced this issue, but I have replaced the power supplies with other 24v ones. I just re-used the jack plug. I don’t know the size off hand.
Thanks for this video! This is the same problem I'm having. Unfortunately I tried fixing it and knocked off the two resistors (i think. they look just like the R18 on your board) next to the MOSFETs. Do you happen to know what kind of resistors those are, or where you'd be able to find a circuit diagram for this board?
@@benkraiemchedlia3904 yes, i used "AO3400 (AO9T)" n channel mosfet they are designed for 30v and 5.7A and have worked for me so far without any problems
Hi Gary, I have a question for you. I presume You've also come across some that were not working at all. The question is, is there any chance that it's fixable in that case as well?
garywoo3 so I just got my multimeter. All of the mosfets are working fine - no connection. The power input seems to work fine too. There is a connection when metered.
If you're getting +24v on the input, check for voltage between any of the LED channel outputs and the LED ground (black wire). If you're getting nothing, then something else is wrong, but I wouldn't be able to guess what exactly could be the problem.
@R This video should give you the confidence to investigate. Open up that Aeotec and then look up the part numbers for the transistors used. If it uses N-type (as here) you should at least be able to confirm whether it's broken (open). Verifying shrinks the scope of your problem (at least you know you'd need to practice soldering, or ask a friend to help you)

J Kerestely Why the need for being sarcastic towards the uploader. It’s RUclips their fault, not the uploader of the video. Also, max speed of your connection doesn’t say anything about the stability of it. 30Mbit/s or so is plenty for full HD, more doesn’t add anything for RUclips playback experience.

Could it solve the buzzing issue ?
I don't know what that issue is, but probably not.
Usually a buzzing issue is due to a switching issue. Could be a bad capacitor causing a bad ripple in the supply, or potentially a leaky diode
