If you purchased a compatible strip then of course it might work. But compatible would mean a Led strip that has 6 pins and handles same voltage. To achieve the precise colours that Philips Hue can manage, the strip is comprised of Red, Green, Blue, Warm white and Cold white leds. Add to that the ground line and you end up with 6 wires. If it’s a standalone light installation then it could work fine. But if you have the strip in use with other Philips Hue bulbs, the colours most probably will never match. Good luck. Let me know how you go.
Thanks @Ryan for the question. No they are not the V4. The V4 came out just before I started this installation. However while the V4 gives a few more options for more flexible installation, I would still have had to pull them apart and do some soldering to install the strips to the staircase. The V4 also have the Bluetooth enabled control. But that’s really also a waste of tech for me as I’m running a Hue bridge. Thanks for watching and thanks for your question. Any more and I’m happy to try answer them.
@@PaulWarrenEaton Thanks. I’m going to need to solder my extensions together because Philips doesn’t sell the cut-end hippo connector separately. Their extensions come with a 4 inch long wire which obviously creates gaps in the lighting. Makes no sense to me why they don’t include cut-end connectors with extensions.
Yeah I really do think it’s a tricky balance that Signify try to find with the light strips. Just about everything else in the range is really just plug and play. Whereas these strips just lend themselves to being custom fit and installed. They could down the path of making the whole thing more modular. But I wonder what impact that might have to product returns or accidental breakages etc. At least with V4 they have attempted to make things a little more connectable. But yeah every place I think of putting one of these strips.. I will need my soldering iron. Good luck !
My Hue Lightstripe seems to be damaged... Do you think i can just use another cheaper RGB Lightstripe and connect it to the controller?! Thanks

Are you using Philips Hue v4 Bluetooth light strip?

Are you soldering with lead in this video?
Tin / Lead mix. Yes.
