I saw it, and that's what finally convinced me to pull the trigger. The reviews are very mixed, and it did arrive damaged, it looked like it was dropped at some point, the shaft that holds the augers for example was forced out of the sockets, but you don't live in this part of the country in rural america and not be able to do some fixing.... Hoping that it lasts the season.

I own the older 24inch model since 2018 and it has worked well over the years. Recently I just bought a used one from a couple for just a little over $100. They had problems with the auger bogging down with heavy snow. Since the couple bought the machine new 2 years ago, it had minimal rust and the engine sounded great. All I did when I got home was tightened the auger belt and all was good. What a steal knowing how expensive these machines can be!

I bought a snowblower about 2 years ago....never used it until the other day. We have a massive driveway and it only took about 3 times of shoveling it for us to make the buy. Anyway there is this spray lubricant that you can spray on there and the snow doesn't stick to it. Works great on snow shovels too. I ended up doing the sidewalks and stuff around the neighborhood because it was so great.

I have a love-hate relationship with this same snowblower. This is my second winter using it. As you demonstrated, that sucker starts on the first pull 99% of the time. Heck, last winter I had to use it in something like -5º F and it jumped right to life. I've never had to use the electric start. It does a pretty good job in heavy snow (I'm in Wisconsin) and throws it nice and far, as you stated.
My beef is with the chute system. The cable that adjusts the chute deflector broke after about a month of use. The eyehook connecter just snapped right in half where the cable meets the connector! Also, I've found that in heavier snow, the chute tends to walk itself forward. I'll have it aimed sideways and slowly it will just rotate itself until it is throwing snow directly in front of the machine. I "fixed" this by wrapping a bungee cord around the hand crankshaft to try to keep it in place with friction. But it is pretty annoying. The last time I used it, it seemed to be slipping out of gear and at one point lost all self-propelledness. But that could have been operator error since I was severely uncaffeinated. We'll find out the next time it snows!
Anyway, great video. I'm glad it's serving you well.

I have the same model and also bought it last year. I was coming here and hoping to see you mention the stuck chute. We had a good storm here in Pittsburgh on Sunday. My chute was not working and stupid me forced the chute with my hand and now its not working. I store mine in my garage. Its possible it was frozen when I forced it up, but now it just doesn't work. Gonna have to tear it apart before the next snow comes. Other than that, this is a great machine and I love how far it throws the snow when the chute is working.

    Quick question here sir.
At 6:58'', I can see that you removed the skid shoe (those black steel plates to raise your auger and get some ground clearance to avoid gravel). Is that what you did? I am thinking of removing them so I can better scrape my concrete driveway. I just bought my first snow blower, so I am not experienced. Trying to get some viewpoints. Thanks!👏🏽👏🏽

Had mine for over 5 years now. Starts on the first pull to this day. The first start of the season I use the electric start, but the rest of the season it takes one pull. The only thing I don't like about it is the chute. Has a broken seat on the chute, but customer service was able to get me a replacement within a couple weeks, and was relatively cheap. Forward speed is great, but the reverse speed is slow. 8/10 for the price

i have this machine for 3 years now, first year would not start, had to have it repaired and also after the repair then the the forward motion stopped working, had that fixed. the second year it would not start again at all. i had to manually shovel, third year i had to replace the carburetor. HOwever, the pull start i could never do. It would yank the pull cord back out of my hand so hard i felt it could have broke my hand.

Good one year review! I bought its cousin, 24" cordless and love it. It has the one hand operation. We had the atmospheric river hit us here close to Lake Tahoe and I hadn't received my snow blower so by the time I got it. The 2.5' of snow was ice and snow. It got a workout but I feel it held its own and the motor didn't bog down until I got close to the end of my battery charge. BTW, perhaps W/D 40 on that cable?

It’s weird they put a different model number on all the 24” models for each store, only difference being 2 letters for each store like Walmart is PSSWM24, Amazon is PSSAZ24, and Home Depot is PSSHD24, ect… they all appear to be identical. For some reason the Walmart version is the cheapest. I’m hoping it’s not actually “cheaper quality” and a POS… Taking a gamble here, but this has me excited for our next snowstorm ☃️

Just a couple of thoughts. I bought this unit three years ago why price I paid $359 delivered from walmart. I am handy so I felt confident that I could keep it running. I don't get a lot of snow BUT. It starts first pull every time. First year had one issue, very heavy snow when I put the Shute lip down the heavy snow pulled the chute up partly off where it sits I got a blast of snow in the face. The lip where it sits is not very tall. I took some PVC pipe pieces and glued them inside no way the shute can come up high enough to come partly off. Even though I drained every bit of gas from it this year first time I started it it ran like shit surging no power. Removed carb. cleaned fixed. Also the shute lip cable keeps freezing but that can happen with any brand. I added chains and weighted down the front and upgraded the front feet. As far has how it works does a great job Over all I am happy with this unit so far it has earned it's price. One thing that scares me is the lack of parts available on the website, I can fix any thing but I can't make the parts

Got the 26 inch version of this snowblower, super easy to use, pretty durable so far, I accidentally ran over a bundled sales paper in the driveway but didn’t hurt the auger or shear pins thank goodness. I was really concerned about it being a Chinese made machine but for $750 it’s a good value. I agree about the two handed operation but.again the price is why I believe it requires two hands. But clears snow beautifully and I hope it lasts me a few years. So I would recommend it.

@@MilkyWayGalaxyy I work at a home hardware. We brought Powersmart in 2 years ago, haven't had one returned yet, and in fact I bought the 26 inch one today. But I will tell you this I've seen MANY of the $2000 + dollar Troy Bilts get returned in the last few years. In fact we have a troybilt we use in the lumber yard, blows sheer pins every run, we grabbed a little 24 inch powersmart 2 stage that out throws the 3 stage troybilt we also use. Troy Bilt isnt what it use to be 10 years ago. From what I've witnessed putting these together and dealing with returns, I'll spend money on any other company before Troy now, even Benchmark. Also in wet snow, the auger control gets loaded up with frozen slush and stops working until cleaned off.

How does it do on snow berms?

  • @eddiew1981

Just picked one up this past snow storm we had, I live in rhode island. I looked out my window the following morning and said nope, no way I'm shoveling this. Called around and no one had any snow blowers except for this one Toro that was 2200 bucks. I was going to buy it till my wife called one of our local home depot and told them they had 29 of these power smarts in stock online, the girl actually went to the back to look after the 1st call we made, I assume the guy we spoke with only looked on the floor. So she called me and told me to re rout to home depot in nk. It needed minor assembly, just the shoot and push bar and I was off and running, I have to say I was skeptical on how well thos thing would work but it was flawless, ate right threw some deep snow banks and had to of thrown the snow 15-20' easy.. not sure about the one you got a year ago but this one I got has heated handles and a led headlight and the also added single hand operation, once you hold down auger and acceleration you can let go of the auger and controll the shoot and it'll keep throwing snow.. thanks for the vid

Oh man I wish I got the one with the heated handles and headlights! And of course the single handed operation! Awesome to hear you have had a good experience! Now I am thinking maybe I should sell this one to get the updated features. 🤔. Thanks for sharing!

Do the exhaust fumes not bother you? First time snowblower, just used mine for the first time yesterday for about 2hrs. The entire time I was just inhaling and breathing in the exhaust fumes while using it. I honestly slept with a headache and even this morning I feel like I can still smell it in my nostrils. Honestly makes me not want to use it again

    • @TheFixerHomeRepair

Hey! That is strange. They have never bothered me. Not sure what could be causing that honestly.

Anyone use this in areas where you consistently have snow events of 12” or more? How does it do with the crunchy hard snow? Can this be operated and maneuvered by smaller frames people or is the weight too much?

I don't know how many times I've had to go to somebody's house to fix a Chinese engine. These things really suck they run on choke only and the carburetor emulsion tube holes get stuck or clogged and you have to run it on choke.

can you adjust to not throw it 40 ft ? that's far and will throw it to neighbors window or on your porch or somewhere you may not want to reach ?

    • @TheFixerHomeRepair
      @TheFixerHomeRepair  2 года назад

Yes, very true. You can just adjust the chute down and it will throw it a much shorter distance.

@@TheFixerHomeRepair some reviews on home depot complain about broken belts, blades touch the ground, its cheap quality & you pay for what you get & so on. it is lower priced than other known brands. Any feedback on suspected quality, durability ?

I got this at the end of last year. Tried it for the first time this weekend. It starts up like a champ and cuts through the snow like a hot knife. BUT, the Auger belt keeps slipping off. After making adjustments, it keeps happening.

Doesn’t the chute get clogged when the snow is very wet (when it rains right after it snows, the dreaded wintry mix)?

I am having issues finding them as well. You can get them from PowerSmart for $2 each, but have no nuts for them? You would need to buy some hex nuts for them from the hardware store.
