So i called emailed Powersmart today -- and on a Powersmart Snowblower 26inch with 212 cc engine & led light model # PSSHH26LED , they said they recommend Lucas White Lithium Grease Part#10533 to put in the Auger Gearbox for Grease. They didn't comment on the oil level.....this model has 2 plugs up front of the gearcase, similar to a car differential or how the Honda units do that. I'd love to see you show people on these JB how to service the Auger-Gearcase with the grease.

JB we recently picked up the same snowblower but cheaper model from a local customer that uses this blower to clear snow at his restaurant which has a stone parking area. Since the customer had the skid shoes set even with the shave plate a bunch of stones had pushed their way between the housing and the back side of the shave plate thus pushing out the metal on the auger housing towards the back. We were able to hammer out the stones using an old screwdriver as a pry bar, then hammer the bulged metal back as best we could. Disappointed that when we went to set the skid shoes for 3/4" clearance the most we could get was 5/16". Must note that the skid shoes you installed looked like a higher quality part than the cheaper metal ones that came with this snowblower our model was DB7624E60 but i can say it starts first pull after we cleaned the carb and blows snow very well!
Thanks for sharing this Wayne! A good tip here! These can be decent little machines if cared for properly! They definitely cut corners though and parts will more than likely need to be replaced! Thanks again for sharing and hope you guys are doing well! 👍
GG, I used my brand new Powesmart 24" today. Only problem was that one of the wheels came off the axle twice. As you know they are attached by a pin and cotter pin. These look very weak and i wondered if you have an alternative idea to overcome this issue? Something like a locking bolt and nut? Any advice would be most welcome, other than that the blower worked through a good foot and a half with no issues. The two speed reverse gears being a Godesend!
They now comes more pre-assembled. I received mine yesterday, no need to mess with the wheels, it is easier to get out of the box. Mine arrived via Fedex, all banged up, a lot of bendings and no speed control connection rod... and there is no hand heater on mine. bullshit, how were you able to even contact them. i have spent hours waiting for customer service, this is now the 7th time I have called and waited for no answer.
Excellent like always really enjoy your videos. I purchased the PowerSmart 26" with the Briggs and Stratton engine which worked great during this past snow storm. Only addition I made was to install a bungee cord on the vertical rod that connects to the friction wheel. I did this to prevent the speed changer from jumping to the highest speed from all the vibration. Works great prevents the speed changer from shifting but allows me to change speeds. SnowBlower Customer Service said they would send a repair man to my home to fix this problem. The 250 cc engine is very powerful no problem throwing snow in any direction.
Appreciate the positive feedback Ernest! Congrats on the purchase! Glad it worked well for you too! I had a similar issue happen with mine too. Thanks for sharing my friend!
Decided I've had enough of paying the ever increasing annual costs to have someone plow my driveway. Used to have a great 2 stage blower, but after many years the auger stopped turning. This is about the lowest priced model I've seen, but many complaints about quality control, etc. Any comments whether this would be a decent investment or would I be better off spending more money (most are substantially more) and getting something like an Ariens Classic 24? Fantastic videos...will definitely refer to this if I get one... Thanks!
I would definitely spend the extra money on an Ariens if you could swing it! These blowers are decent but not meant to last a long time! The Ariens will last twice as long as this one! 👍
Thanks! Not sure if I can swing paying twice as much, the lowest end Ariens is over $1000. If there are other units you might recommend that might be in between please let me know. Just started looking again...I used to have a Craftsman that I loved, started like butter for manny/many years (still does but for the auger). Enough of the not-reliable snowplowers increasing their rates astronomically!@@GarageGear
Tip for you. I always tip boxes like that on they're side and cut open the bottom center seam. Then I fold three flaps out of the way, tip on it's other side and fold fourth flap out of the way. Tip it back upright and just lift the intact box off the item.
Another great video and unboxing JB! It seems it difficult getting something delivered without having something broken or dented. Ugh! The engine break in is definitely a must. Looking forward to seeing this in action. We definitely got the snow to do that! See you soon my friend! Enjoy this balmy day! Cheers!
Come on J.B ! Don't cut the box, just grab one end and lift. Trust me, it'll all come out together. 😄👍 Edit: And as for that so-called bent chute, that's a feature that helps you turn left faster cause we all need help turning our snowblowers. What a company!
Hahahah I was tempted to lift it but I would probably drop half of it in the process. A bent auger housing does make turning on a 4 foot wide sidewalk a bit easier 🤔🤣 glad they’re thinking of us! Thanks for watching my friend! You are DA MAN!
@GarageGear Have any tips on getting out a bent (not broken) shear pin? Where the nut meets the auger shaft it's bent about 4 degrees, just enough where I can't push it through. I tried a hammer to tap it trough, no luck. Since the other side of the hole is keeping the shear pin in straight, I can't "angle" it through either.
The auger on that snowblower seems to be smaller in diameter. The pencil trick is handy and I tend to use carpenter pencils. The cutting edge has more contact area when placed parallel onto the pencil and they don't roll.
Yes totally agree shooky! Those augers are small! 8 inches I think! I like the carpenter pencil idea! Stealing that one from you if you don’t mind! Lol! Thanks for watching!
I've reposted on Facebook a couple of photos of front skids that I fabricated. I apologize for any misunderstanding I see that you have a very well laid out garage. So. I thought you'd have a welder and fabricate some for your busine$$ .
Powersmart does have one problem as a company itself. And that is the fact that their customer service is really troublesome. If you happen to break a cable on this thing than good luck trying to find a replacement. Just ask Taryl Fixes All, you’ll see what I mean. But besides that I suppose this brand is okay for tight budgets, it might not last longer than five years I’d imagine.
Hey BCSERK! I totally agree with you! If you are on a budget this is the budget blower! Heard mixed reviews about their customer service too! Thanks for watching my friend!
Great unboxing! I cut my teeth, way back when, on Briggs and Stratton engines. That and a Hirth 2-stroke were my entree into small engine repair. So glad to see you be nutso about engine break-in. So many people tell me “that’s not necessary” then, of course, their engines and cars don’t last as long as mine. This looks like a decent unit, eager to see how it blows.
Hey Douglas! Thank you my friend! Break ins are absolutely necessary! An important step that many over look. This machine works well and throws snow surprisingly far. I’ll have some clips soon. Stay tuned my friend!👍
Hey rider not exactly sure but if you locate a parts manual online it may have a number and you can call the company to order one possibly. Thanks for watching
Hi… question for you on the Powersmart 24” 212cc blower. Is opening the carburetor valve the best way to get all the fuel out of the fuel tank? Or is there another step to make sure there is nothing left in the tank or fuel line, etc.? Thanks!
Love your videos. They are helpful. Would you consider doing one on how to troubleshoot stuck cord? We have a new 26” PowerSmart snowblower, never used. We went through maintenance steps, no problem. After restarting, the cord stuck, but it starts with electric starter. I believe I just need to remove cover and untangle cord. But it would be good to know various reason why cord will get stuck. Thanks for all your sharing.
Hey mountain I’ll see what I can do about a video. I would recommend carefully removing the cover and untangling it making sure that any inner springs don’t come out. Thanks for watching!
Thank you for the instructional install video, it will help me with my assembly. I did notice at 5:35 Briggs and Stratton logo. Does Briggs and Stratton own power smart?
Hey Patrick, PowerSmart used a briggs engine on this machine. They do not own PowerSmart. Just use an engine from briggs. Here’s a link with more info. Thanks for watching . totalgardener.com/company-powersmart-lawn-mowers/
I just got mine, put it together in 1/2 hour, and it started right up, both with the pull, and, later, with the electric start. No damage at all in shipping, and no oil stains anywhere.
These power more Motors I didn't have no luck with them in my tractor Troy-Bilt wasn't keeping the battery charged the coil went on it I didn't go ahead and buy another one I pull the old Briggs & Stratton motor out and put on there now the battery stays charged the only thing I like about your snow blower it had the light on it my Toro don't have a light on it I think it's about 3 years old I think I paid about $800 I got the receipt somewhere around here it's nothing write home to mother about like usual nice talking to you give me a thumbs up gave you a like not a Bud Light thank you for the video
JB Nice to see my name on the white board! Had to call the wife in for her to see it so she isn't thinking I'm bsing her.. Just back from hunting this weekend, you going to have any videos on all that snow you guys got over there? My coworker has a Powersmart and seems ok, if he used the proper gas and some plain ol maintenance on his side it would be better. 👍
Hey Ed! Thanks for being a cool fan of the channel ! I’m editing a few videos as we speak with all that snow! Stay tuned bud! What’s your wife’s name? I’ll put it on the board! Lol! ROCK ON my friend!
HEY! Where’s the anti-seize on the axels? 😏 but random question, I’ve never bought a brand new snowblower fresh out of the box, mine have always been second hand or gifted, do new snowblowers come with gear oil in the gearbox and does it need to be changed in a certain amount of hours like engine oil?
My Ariens service manual only asks that we check the oil level so I guess it's not critical to be replaced every few years. If it has changed colour, it's a good sign it's time to replace it though.
Hey Tanner my plan was to assemble this blower following the instruction manual. Gearboxes come all set with oil and only need to be checked periodically. Olivier is on it! I’ll be having plenty of fun with machine!
Hey Flint! I get a lot of emails from different companies. Many from video game companies lol! I tell them I don’t have a single gaming video. When decent ones pop up I try to take advantage of them! Hope you’re doing well bud! 👍
This will be my 3rd year for my POWERSMART 24 INCH GAS SNOWBLOWER. So far, so good. If there is a problem would be trying to find replacement parts..Shear pins, Augers, etc.
Even though the Husqvarna has two bolts, the handlebars have about 3/16's of an inch of play. I already know it's gonna drive me nuts, literally! Another cool video JB. 👍🏼
Looks like they added some useful features not usually found on an entry level machine. I'm not high on the PowerSmart stuff but I am interested in seeing the performance between the gas and battery versions.
@@GarageGear Besides eating leftovers? 😁 Put up the Christmas decorations and tomorrow is my daughter's 7th birthday so we're having family over for a little party.
@@GarageGear I’m completely jealous. I’m actually thinking of selling one of my Honda tracks because we don’t get snow anymore. Last 3 years have been no snow really. Thank you global warming
I know what you mean about the handle bolts. You must mean the craftsman cause that’s what I have. I ended up putting a hose clamp around the lower part of the handle, worked out very well.
Hey David, craftsman and Troy bilt are both owned and manufactured by MTD. The have similar handlebar assemblies. Good idea with the hose clamp! Thanks for sharing!
When installing speed control lever what is that long silver bolt above where you connect first at bottom? 🤔 mines seems to be sticking out to much and maybe possibly broken on the other end
Got to say your video was a Godsend. Only issue that I had was that no oil was supplied and the battery case for the headlight was damaged and at first didn't work. One of the battery connectors was also damaged. This is definitely a design issue. One thing that they could do better would be to make a more robust battery pack case ( the screw that holds the battery pack together is miniscule). Greased and used the products you recommended during assembly (watched your maintenance guide) and the thrower on mine appears to be a lot looser to move around that in the model you assembled. Many thanks for your well put together build. Mine was a newer version and a 26" Powersmart but it went together pretty much the same. Good advice on using to pencils as well!
I have the 950 engine on a Briggs Snow Blower and it is very solid. Always starts on the first pull and I have had it for 5 winters, going on my 6th. The chute is metal, not plastic, which I prefer and it does not have the clicking and turning the chute is very easy. But if anyone is worried about the engine, it is solid!
I have to say I am not impressed by what I see but then I look at the price and it probably compares with other low-end machines. That said I'm sure it will perform well, it's probably just not going to last 20 years. When you buy an Ariens they also pretty much assembled everything at the factory, it takes 10 minutes to complete the assembly. You pay for that in the price of course, but assembly might scare off a few people.
Hey Olivier! This is definitely a budget blower! I agree it probably won’t forever. Probably 5-10. Assembly might scare off some but hopefully this video can help some out. thanks for sharing and watching!
Great video thank you:) I’ve put mine together except the headlights and hand warmer aren’t working. Any suggestions to make them work will be great. Thanks again
Check underneath the control deck. They might be both disconnected. They should be plastic clips that need need to be attached. Let me know if they’re connected. Thanks for watching
Thanks for the video. It's Friday and they're closed all weekend. I wanna fire it up, but there is a missing yellow plug on the engine block. The other side has the small yellow plug. Does yours have 2 small yellow plastic plugs?
@GarageGear thanks for getting back. I ended up looking down in it and it's not machined at the bottom. Must be the same engine for different models. I fired it up and it's all good. Thanks, man.
What's going on?!! I have a MTD 2 stage blower. China engine, USA everything else. Zero problems with the engine, 1 pull start everytime BTW. MTD everything else is great also. 3 yrs ago you get the Powersmart blower 100% China made. NOW you get another Powersmart and it has a Briggs & Stratton engine! REALLY? They shipping a USA engine to China, only to ship it back? I passed the Briggs plant in Wisc. last summer, it's alive and well.

Hey boss! All four bolts for my skid shoes "lock up" before the shoes are tight. You're using power so you may not even notice if yours are the same. Should I just force the nuts past the point where they no longer screw by hand? Thanks
Hey John these are lock nuts that you are referring too. Yes, tighten them down farther. There is a piece of plastic inside that helps keep them from spinning off. Tighten them all the way down with a ratchet and they won't move. Thanks for watching.
@@GarageGear Thanks a lot for the help. I had so many problems with thing. Couldn't connect the auger cable. Galled the company. The guy sent a new cable. It was the same cable I had. But as I looked I saw where I could screw it down at the top. And the guy at powersmart didn't know to tell me that? Oy!
I got this delivered 1 month ago, we haven't had much snow so I only used it a couple times and the at first it worked fine, the third time however the auger wouldn't turn at all and there was a burning smell. I was told by Home Depot I couldn't return it because it was past 30 days (Dec 7 to Jan 16, so 35 days 🙄) and was told to call the company for the warranty. I tried to call all day, I wait on the phone line, and then when it's my turn I get 'there is no one to take your call, goodbye'. Even if I get through and they fix it, I don't know how long that's going to take to fix and I'm going to be blower-less for the snowiest part of the season. Absolute garbage. One month. This thing lasted one month where we didn't even get that much snow. Extremely frustrated with the product, and also disappointed with Home Depot.

Would this be good in Northern NJ where we get an average snowfall of 40-45 inches? Or is the Ariens 24 deluxe worth the extra money? Would the Ariens be overkill for avg snowfall of 40 inches?
Hey Patrick if you can swing the ariens I would do it! The Ariens is built far better, parts are easier to get a hold of unlike the PowerSmart, it holds a much higher resale value and will outlast the PowerSmart by dozens of years. Even with lower snowfall totals the ariens is a smart purchase!
@@GarageGearThanks! I just pulled the trigger on Ariens! I watched your comparison video and that sealed it. I read many good things about the Ariens. It's my first snowblower!
Hey Carmen if your model has hand warmers the button should be on the dash between the handlebars somewhere. If your model doesn’t have it there will be no buttons. 👍
Does anyone know what a shaft ring is used for. Mine was missing spacer bushings for the wheels so I ordered some but now I see a different parts list and explosion shows a shaft ring on one side. Powersmart hasn’t been any help. Thanks in advance
Sorry to hear they are not being helpful x not the first of me hearing this either. I would see how that part fits. If it doesn’t I would just go to a hardware store and see if you could match something up.
@@GarageGear that sounds very important and the the company doesn’t even mention it in the instruction sheet. I wish you showed how and where you put them on in this video. I’m new to this.
It is two ends that need to connect. They appear to be too short. One end comes from the handle, and the other comes from the I’m assuming the motor (or somewhere in there). I have picture but I can’t seem to post them. I emailed the original poster but I don’t know if I got a reply back yet or not.
The wheels drive the machine forward and backward as they should nik if that’s what you mean. As far as turning the unit the wheels do not spin independently and are on the same axle. So turning is difficult with this machine and requires some force from the user.
@@GarageGear we are having the same issue that the 2 cables don't reach each other. Any other suggestions? We have the 26-inch model but I;m sure the assembly would be the same as you have in the video, correct?

I have same this one powersmart 24 in. 212cc two-stage gas snow blower with electric start But the problem is I can go forward and backwards But I can not make a turn so WHAT KIND OF THE PROBLEM IS IT ….??? Can you tell me please
Hey ankur the wheels on this unit are not free-spinning wheels. Meaning they are a little tougher to turn. Cheaper models like this are usually built that way. Thanks for watching
I would think fuel supply, though it is a brand new machine with brand new gas. Thing is, after I checked spark, I put some fuel into the cylinder and got no joy. So that is puzzling. Amazon refunded me and told me to keep it. I will look into it further when the weather improves. I don't have a place to work on it indoors. Meanwhile I went ahead and bought a 30 inch Ariens Deluxe and it is ready to go.

The auger on that snowblower seems to be smaller in diameter. The pencil trick is handy and I tend to use carpenter pencils. The cutting edge has more contact area when placed parallel onto the pencil and they don't roll.

Hi… question for you on the Powersmart 24” 212cc blower. Is opening the carburetor valve the best way to get all the fuel out of the fuel tank? Or is there another step to make sure there is nothing left in the tank or fuel line, etc.? Thanks!
Hey rahul I loosened the bolt on the bottom of the carburetor bowl and drain the gas out that way! Gets everything out
Love your videos.

Looking forward to seeing how both of those perform in the snow this season, and how well they last!

When installing speed control lever what is that long silver bolt above where you connect first at bottom? 🤔 mines seems to be sticking out to much and maybe possibly broken on the other end
Not exactly sure what your problem is here Armando. I’d have to see it in person to understand the situation.
I believe it's the oil drain plug or tube? Whatever the name is I'm not sure. But yes I need a new one because mine was broke at the thread.
@@armandosauseda8778 just so I’m clear here your oil drain tube is broken? If so I would contact the company.
Hey Florida! Glad this video helped you out! Appreciate your positive feedback!
Hey Billy! I’ve had nothing but good experiences with these engines! Thanks for sharing my friend!
Great unboxing.
Not sure this snowblower will be around as long as your Ariens
Thank you my friend! I agree. Ariens have proven reliability year after year! Thanks for watching bud!
