@@martadeely9249 I was a NFO so in the S-3 Viking. I flew as a CoPilot, Navigator Weapon Systems and Mission Commander. The process of earning one's wings as an Flight Officer or Aviator is a challenge. I have had a full career (turning 58 next week) the 9 years I flew active duty as a Naval Officer cannot be matched by anything I have done since. Having said that I spent 15 years in the Reserves and flew in F-14 EA-6B, F-18B and F-18Fs and as I become a senior officer seeing the next generation and flying with them were highlights of my year. I think that the sense of service and of excellence that Naval Aviation demands was a life altering direction for me. I would not be living the life I am if it were not for my Naval Aviation experience.

The three ways one can get to an aviation slot is either through attending the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Navy ROTC at several dozen US Universities or do a Direct Commission program post college, where you go to Officer Candidate School in Newport, RI . The later is the path my son took whom is now a student naval aviator in Pensacola, FL. One also has to be commissioned as an officer by the age of 31 now. (Used to be 26) The best way to get the currrent information is to find the Navy Officer Recruiting office in the state you live in.
2:24 reminded me of a joke. A B52 was being escorted by two f-18s on a long flight. The pilots, over the radio began talking and arguing with one another, boasting how their aircraft was better, in retrospect to the other. The F18 pilots argued their aircraft was superior due to speed and agility. B52 - "I can do things with this old girl you guys couldn't even dream of" F18s- "Pffft.. ok prove it!" B52- "Allright.... watch this!" (6 minutes of stable flight passes). The B52 pilot gets back on the radio and says "THERE!" :Silence: F18s- "Um... nothing happened. What did you do?" B52 - Well, I got up, took a piss and made a cup of coffee" :Silence:
Haha the f18 pilot couldn’t make a coffee but they can go for a piss, they have little plastic packs that they can put into a compartment that gets thrown out of the plane

The officers in the squadron really respect the Enlisted maintainers! I have been in several squadrons and never seen that type of dedication to the enlisted. I watched a Divo pull a generator with his guys, it was awesome to watch.

One of the linemen where I was based had a deck position and he could talk endlessly "and did" about everything he did and saw while in the Navy. All great stories but iirc he said on his final "tour" they put his boots on a catapult and shot them into the ocean. Can't verify this but I have heard of much more crazy things out at sea.
