    Grew up near Pasadena. A few friends and I would hike up around Eaton canyon and slip through a fenced off area. It’s been a long time (1971-73) since I’ve been there, but I think we would go through a tunnel and come out by a river. We just hiked up the river and you would come to a pool with a waterfall and a rope. Climb up the rope and another pool and waterfall with rope. It when on and on like that. Maybe 10-15 pools with a rope. We called it the Pools. Hardly ever saw anyone else.

    The interesting thing is that most people who are keen on trashing and disrespecting hidden spots only go to hidden spots that are close. A person that trashes will most likely not be a person to devote energy to nature hikes, meaning that these hidden spots that require effort and hiking will still remain pristine and clean. Only hidden spots in a walkable/easy range will probably be trashed, which is why places like McWay falls in Big Sur which is right off the road is probably off-limits.

    You should have seen this and San Gabriel River 40 years ago! The water volume was a LOT more. Sadly the water table has been dropping in So. Cal ever since the early 1900's. It used to be really challenging to hike up San Gabriel or any of the side canyons because of the water. LOL now there are signs and developed paths etc. Not like the "old days".

    • @JesseStLouis
      @JesseStLouis  4 года назад

      I would have loved to explored the San Gabes back then! Even now though, there's still some beautiful remote areas only accessible by rappelling in, which is why I got into canyoneering there in SoCal. You'd love it.

      Jesse St Louis it’s one of the few things that really triggers me. We have this mountain road Rallarvegen you can ride a bike from 1444 m above sea level down to 2m in a day, it’s the old workers road for building the railroad. Thing is, there’s a certain type of people who does this, like some of the people who do, high income with $6000 bikes and trying to make the best time. Down as well as up. They don’t give a shit about the awesome scenery, it’s just all about being the fastest and bragging rights. They use this energy gel and those packets are scattered all the way along the road. I was biking with a 100lb backpack and chased one of these shitbags down and made him go back and clean up his mess 😂I just snapped.

    Question....do you or anyone know of a spot, I believe in the San Fernando valley area, of a very large pool.
    There’s a few diving spots, one at least 50 feet and a huge rock formation in middle of pool where people dive off.
    Went there many years ago and think it has a Hollywood theme name. They say it’s where many episodes of the original Star Trek were filmed!! Does look like a moon scene.

      Oh, I think it would be interesting to hike there in the dark or anywhere in the woods. I would like to push my German shepherd down a natural water slide against his will so he looks all scared and confused as he goes down, his claws scratching the rock. People need to buy up my "Impact" a James Grider novel on Amazon and any subsequent sequels published under the pseudonym E. Paula Willson. That way I can rack up enough money to move out of a desert area into a wooded area like that. James Grider can topple trees by spawning the Wykkdik of Fhekris into them, cracking them through.

      The one near the bridge, it's called devil's falls as well (opposed to the real devil's falls). I think maybe it was dubbed that by the locals, not positive, but that's what we call it.

    Trashers are too lazy to do all that walking, if anything is the nature lovers ones not picking after their dogs trash the place.

    The Middle Arroyo (Royal Gorge) is one of the most remote areas in the Front Range! In all my 60; years hiking the San Gabriels, I never got into that area. I hiked some of Bear Canyon from bottom up and from Tom Sloan Saddle down. I saw Bear Canyon BEFORE the 1958 burn that took out all of Bear and the Arroyo to Red Box-55;000 acres. Such a tragedy. A ranger told me they had planted Sequoias in Bear Canyon. I’m sure that because the fire crowned out throughout the drainage, they were wiped out. The fire was named the Woodwardia fire because a disgruntled ranger set the blaze under the Woodwardia Bridge on the Angeles Crest! Too bad that a**hole didn’t burn up in it!

    Outstanding place to hike !! You have to hike down a small part of a old road you pass 2 model t stuck in the water . Back in the days you can fish all along the path.. if you hike 5 miles in you come across a very old church. You will be at end of mountain looking down la county . Only a few have seen this site but very worth it . Oh yeah.. don’t get caught in the dark....

    -I got 5 or 6 miles back to the car
    Wait what..its dark. How did you find your way back?🤯. You dont look worried. I'm so confused..how can someone be so calm in a place where 1.its dark 2.there are wild animals that will try to eat you and you cant see them. Plz help me understand how you got back

    • @JesseStLouis
      @JesseStLouis  4 года назад

      Well I had a headlamp to light my way and just followed the creek back up stream to where I turned down it. The animals are usually gonna be just as scared as you. Really just black bears, maybe a mountain lion or coyote might be up there, no big deal.

      The more you put yourself in situations like this, the more you realize that most fear is irrational. Yes you must be cautious and careful, but even if you look both ways when crossing a street, you can still get hit by a bus. The unknown is exciting to me and the more you jump headfirst into adventure, the more exciting it will be for you too!🤙

    This is the year for this hike. Nice and shaded (for the most part), lots of water 💦 and pool. Just be sure footed because much of the trail has been eroded on the steep and narrow parts.
