    Brilliant video, Josh. First off, I was almost immediately derailed after you mentioned Hill People Gear and I started browsing their site. :) Secondly, I couldn't agree with you more about the (tr)uSDX. Amazing that so much can be packed into such an affordable and lightweight piece of kit. But it's just not fun (for me) to operate for any length of time. Thirdly, good on you for making the CW contact--also, thank you for the shout-out. Finally, I think it's pretty cool that so much of the gear and accessories are from our home-grown ham radio cottage industry (K6ARK, N6ARA, 3D prints, etc.). Good on you for spreading that kind of radio love! 72, Thomas (K4SWL)

    Well done on getting under two kilos! There was a similar weight challenge between SOTA activators a few years ago. Of course with SOTA weight is a far bigger problem than in POTA generally as more climbing is normally needed.

    I don't like my trusdx enough to do the challenge with it. My trusdx lives in a kit in my truck for the day when I show up at a trailhead and forgot my radio. I'm gonna hold off until Hans gets SSB working in the QMX.

    Congratulations. It's a good challenge to fit the station in such a small footprint. 3 days ago during our trip, I did a (tr)uSDX CW activation from GB-0516 w/the (tr)uSDX & was amazed to be heard in NY(579) and even MI (559) from here. 5W to the EFHW on 20m mostly. I use headphones and the CW signal sound is OK for me. Best of luck & 73!

    Josh, I love how to feature multiple modes. Love the idea of a weight “endorsement” for a POTA award, I just really doubt ADIF would support that as a field. Great job, and great content! - N0AW

      @@HamRadioCrashCourse I agree that the G90 would be a good entry HF radio. I received in Aug 2023 when my General ticket upgrade became official as my entry into HF. So far I haven't felt the need to get another HF radio. I have worked the world with 20 watts and a wire EFHW antenna. It is what I used when we made contact during your activation of US-3416 back in April. KE8VRW

    Hi Josh, I love the 1lb Pota challenge concept, I like trying to make the lightest station I can. Maybe just activate by any mode to open up to more radios like mtr3b etc. I suspect then you could just nail it with a kh1! 😊 73 Steve

    I released the capsaicin from a 3S battery last week by snipping both leads at the same time. Holy smokes that was a shocker :) Very well placed remind on the spiciness! Thankfully that was a LifePo4, but without any BMS -- no short protection. The battery was still workable after, but the balance charger throws and error now -- which is probably for the best. I'd bought 2 for my QMX that were only $10/ea from HobbyKingwhatever, so no huge loss. That chair looks cool--Thomas SWL featured an ultralight on his channel recently that really caught my eye.

    The part of this challenge that gets me is the SSB/CW/Digital requirement. I have 7 radios in my arsenal that could meet the sub 1-pound requirement but only 1 can do all three modes (trusdx, QCX, QMX, mtr3b, KH1, SW-3B and [not released to the public yet])

    That whistle... The truSDX audio is an ~85kHz PWM output with not enough filtering. This can cause excessive current consumption in amplified speakers and is likely the cause of the whistle when using a digital recorder. Adding an external RC filter can help. Good luck with the challenge! --N2GX

    Ok morning dumb new guy questions 1 how do you activate a park. And can pota be done on say 2m 70cm or 1.25 m. I know they are not topical long rand bands but I don't have anything HF yet

    • @HamRadioCrashCourse
      @HamRadioCrashCourse  Месяц назад +2

      Great questions. I have an introduction to Parks On The Air video somewhere on my channel, you can search for the intro details. But I'll try and answer you here. You "activate" a park by making ten contacts from a Park that is identified in the parksontheair.com/ system (bring up their map tool). You can make those contacts on any bands/modes so long as the internet or repeaters are not involved. With that said, you generally do much better by using an HF band, ten meters is a good option for technician.
