I am still considered a beginner but I have to learn this.I don't care if it kills me.This is the one song that my dad ask me to learn a long time ago.If I learn just the intro that would impress him.Im gonna take my time and learn this.I will surprise him with this for his bday.To get the best response I want him to have consumed at least 2beers before I play.He might cry on this one..Lol!!.This is his fav Billy Joel song.Thank you soooo much Piano John for all you do.You are changing/inspiring so many lives. You'll never understand how much you've helped us on this piano journey.I am the star of my family because of you.You deserve all the credit buddy.

We just got a free piano from our neighbor and I always loved this song. This is the first thing I’ve ever played on the piano, but I kept at it for a few days and it finally started coming together. I might have to start actually learning how to play the piano, as much fun as I’ve had learning this. Thanks for taking the time to make this video and helping so many people. I bet you didn’t think you’d have so many views on this back when you first started.

Been a Billy Joel fan for 40 years and never understood those first two chords until now. The very end of your video, where the final C chord is bouncing around between F/C and G/C and back to C is the same thing he does to end the intro of Allentown but there he is in G. Never realized that either till I saw you play this!
    Thank you!

Amazing John, I want to thank you for being a stickler on the importance of 'original composition.' Songbooks so often publish songs featuring the melody in the right hand that frustration is now a direct association for me. Your teaching style works. Your description & example focus on the right correlations between parts & your tempo, in many categories, is perfect. I just got my first piano in ten years, a dream for me and you're now a cog in the wheel so to speak and I really appreciate it.

1st class tutorial. Thank you so much for taking your time and effort to give a very accurate transcription of this timeless classic. I can't thank you enough, you have inspired me to finally learn this piece after many years of people requesting me to play it. The sheet music I have for this piece has gathered dust for years, probably due to it's inaccuracy. I stumbled across your video, and I have thoroughly enjoyed learning it . You're a great teacher and an inspiration!

This is one of my fathers favorites songs, and we were listening to it and I told him I'd learn it on piano for him. He didn't believe me. It took me about 2 minutes to learn the intro rif alone from this video, which would have taken me probably half an hour to learn by ear. Coming from an advanced piano player, you are an excellent teacher and it is much appreciated. THankyou :)

First, I love the pace of your video tutorials. It's not too slow or too fast...just right for me. No unnecessary yapping, plus you'll put a graphic up showing the notes you're playing. Nice! I also like that you play the whole lesson through as a short demo. These are the BEST tutorials for any instrument that I've found on youtube. Thank you so much!!! Second, I love that you show us how it's played on the recording or at least note when you've deviated from the recording. Awesome job!

Thanks to you, I've learned some of my favorite beatles' tunes and this song. I appreciate it alot because you've allowed me to keep playing and learning without the need for sheet music. I have to learn through this visual method, as I am self-taught, and can't read music. I can do both hands, but the right-handed four-note chords are really tough, so I'm just playing the root chords. It made it a lot easier, and after I get the whole song down, maybe I'll add in those extra couple of notes. Thanks, John!

What's good about this is you stress that it's important to play it just like he does. Today it's so hard to find how to play it exactly like the original because people alter it themselves, thank you

Great video. Took me about a half hour to learn the intro. Once I get everything learned I'll post a response also on this once I get the whole thing basically learned.
    Thanks a lot.

Great video! I wish you had played the whole intro in the beginning so people had an idea what you were gonna teach... Luckily you end up teaching exactly what i had hoped for! Good job :)
