The bracelet is amazing! Cameos with grapes and grape leaves are either Bacchus (Dionysius) the God of wine or Bacchantes (Maenads), followers of the God of wine.
Wow! Gorgeous cameo collection! I'm an avid collector as well and have a fairly extensive collection. I love cameos! I love all of yours, but I think my favorite one is the one you showed immediately following the mismatched earrings. Lovely! Thank you for sharing! 💕
Ok, so most cameos were carved in Naples, Italy which has been the center of shell carving for centuries. Most of yours are 1920-1930. The finest cameo is the bracelet and the one without the bezel 1880’s. Most cameos represented Roman or Greek goddesses or gods and mythology. The ones with grapes in their hair are Bacchantes or the followers of the God of wine Bacchus. The ones you referred to as stone or not, but are pink conch shell and Angel skin corals. The Victorian one with the knot is a classic Roman lady with a veil. Men are rare. I have a 14kt large shell cameo of Abraham Lincoln. I also have a shell cameo of the Virgin Mary that belonged to Olivia de Haviland! Wish there was a way I could show you mine. I buy unbezeled cameo and make a bezel out of beads, pearls and gems. Hope this helps! Love your videos!!
I now need to find a cameo with curly hair as I have curly hair myself. Thanks for sharing your beautiful collection. You always included awesome information.
I use to collect cameos, they are beautiful..I learned that if you slide the cameo across your bottom teeth, plastic slides real smooth & easy, real cameo shells feel glassy. Try it, you can feel the difference.
To me, the little left facing girl with her hair upswept look like she has a oriental look to her face. They are beautiful!! I bought a lot on Ebay a couple years ago and there were some cameos in it. Several out of their settings. The lady I bought them from said several times that one in particular that was really pink. "May be worth a lot and I should have her looked at" I never have, but maybe I will after seeing your collection. BTW I loved that seller, she was just so sweet. I haven't bought much these days but I think her shop was called Rocky on, or something like that. I highly recommend her. TFS, Lori
Hi!! The pink may be Queen Conch shell, one of my viewers just told me that one of mine is made out of that. Thanks as always for your comments and for watching. Hugs, SANDRA
What a beautiful collection, Sandra 😍. Thx for sharing the Wiki info and for explaining/pronouncing “intaglio” & “habille”. You share your knowledge without being snooty ☺️
The cameo on the bracelet “floats” so it has some give when you open the bracelet to put on your arm. If it is mounted flat to the bracelet it could crack because of the pressure put on it when you expand the bracelet to wear.
Great collection of cameo...The cameo with short hair early at the beginning of 1900 the woman had long hair and bend their hair to the INSIDE as a hairdo...I believe that was 1920 - 1948...
So many different faces and hair styles the bracelet was so unique with all the plants in her hair , give your puppies hugs love there little barks there very ferocious 🐕🐶
Such an interesting and fun video to watch, thank you for showing us all those amazing pieces! And regarding the cameo lady with the shorter hair, the bobbed hair style was popular during the 1920s.
Glad you enjoyed it! You may be right about the bobbed hair, but thought 20's bobs were straighter and shorter? I'll check it out tho -- THANKS so much for the input. Cheers.
I think someone took an antique cameo and made a beautiful bracelet. And for the short hair one I think the young girls would take their longer hair and pin it in to make it look short in 1900 TO 1910. No sure but I think I saw that somewhere.
Thank you for sharing your amazing cameo collection! I collect cameos also, but my collection is much smaller than yours. My favorites are the two that you picked up from Saver's. Based on the hair and regal facial features, they look older to me.
Amazing cameo collection Sandra! I only have one in my collection but hope it grows! My favorite ones were the flip ring, the one with short hair and the one on the bracelet, so wonderful! Can’t wait for you next video 💕
Thank you for sharing your cameo collection. I loved ALL of them. The one that I'm most curious about is the one in the heart filigree frame, there's just something about that one that draws me in and leaves me wanting to know more about the age and origin of. I'll have to pull mine out and take a closer look at them.
Wow, this was fascinating! I just love your collection, even the ones that made me smile! So hard to choose, but I think the one at 5:13, that you said was from a shell, was my favorite. Thanks for your fun videos!
Have you ever looked on the back of your old shell cameos to see if it’s been signed by the Master? Only the best ever were signed. I was delighted to find one of my beauties was Master Signed recently. 9ct too, You pretty much can only see the signature scratched in with a torch. There also worth more when they are signed. 😊
I'm new at this, but I bid on an auction and won. It was a cameo encased in a very muscular silver ornamental pendant and it came with it's own silver case. There was another heart pendant which opened also sliver. The three were 28 grams silver. This all looked really old like early 1900s. It was a real bidding war. I have no clue what the real value is since it is definitely antique.
In regard to upturned noses, anything in the 20th century should be considered modern, including celluloid objects. When deciding if a nose is upturned look at the silhouette from the lip to the tip, how angled up is it? Also look at the silhouette from the brow to the tip, is it a bit scooped like a ski jump? Roman noses typically have a straight silhouette from the widow's peak to the tip of the nose and would be considered too big to be pretty today. Straight profiles have a slight angle at the brow. Upturned noses have a scoop, an upward curve.
Roman noses are very large, pert upright noses are tiny. Age is not the only difference. Italian made cameos favor Roman noses, while northern Europeans favor the pert tiny noses. Neoclassical cameos, think jasperware, have the straightest, longest forehead to nosetip lines.
Always interesting! Love ❤️ watching your channel, great teacher..
The one on the bracelet is my favorite. That carving is fantastic. She’s a gorgeous Bacchanite!
Thanks Nancy! Hope you’re well. xoxo
Hi Sandra Thank you for sharing. Beautiful Beautiful cameo collection. 👍❤️
Glad you enjoyed it
The bracelet is amazing! Cameos with grapes and grape leaves are either Bacchus (Dionysius) the God of wine or Bacchantes (Maenads), followers of the God of wine.
Yes! Thank you! Thanks for watching -- do you think it's original to that bracelet? It's weird!!!! Hugs, SANDRA
@@TheFunkyPickleThrifter i think the bracelet is not as old as the cameo
You have such a stunning collection here! I had so much fun seeing them!

You should add grandmas pic in that cameo!
Love that! I will !

The pink cameo on a chain is Queen Conch shell. Lovely collection! I love cameos too! They’re so interesting, little pieces of art.
Thanks for the info! I've never heard of a Queen Conch -- I'll have to look it up. Thanks so much. xo

Awww Sandra I love your videos….they are always so informative but I gotta say Abby, Pickles and Rosie always steal the show!😂
I am looking gor a cameo ring to replace one that was stollen. It was set in gold scollops
Purchaed from a jewelry store 50 years ago
So sorry to hear that. How awful. Good luck finding another. Cameo rings are a bit hard to find. Hugs.

Is there a cameo with a Roman soldier head on it

Could the celluloid possibly be lava?
I don't think so, but I'll have another look. Thanks so much for watching!!! xo
A ight coat of mineral oil once a year will protect your shell cameos from drying out and cracking
Ok, thanks for the tip and thanks for watching!

I don't usually see them too much either.... Thanks and thanks for watching!
No, I don't think it is tacky to test the material of a gift because you would need to know how to care and clean it.
