    "How do you know who wins?"
    "The who's dead.. doesn't."
    This came out when I was 12, and it's probably safe to say I had no trouble watching action movies, or fantasy, or space opera (i.e. Star Wars) where people, even main characters sometimes, die all the time - BUT: I think this is one of the first movies where I really identified with the main character (Daniel), he felt real to me, and everything in the movie felt like it took place in our really real world. So, when Mr. Miyagi said that the one who's dead is the loser - that one of them would for certain be dead - it was quite shocking. o.O

  • @RetrofanFilms
    @RetrofanFilms 6 дней назад +2

    If I’m remembering correctly, the opening scene where Miyagi confronts Kreese; that scene was originally shot for the first film. They withheld it, just in case a sequel was in the works. Because when Karate Kid II was being filmed, William Zabka (Johnny) was making Back to School with Rodney Dangerfield, and he looks older in that film than he does in the opening scene.

    In all fairness, Miyagi was sure that Yukie and Sato went through with the arranged marriage due to their strong belief in traditions. Plus for his safety/security, Yukie didn't make contact with him because of Sato's influence.

    Reactors always forget/ignore the fourth movie, *The Next Karate Kid,* and I wish they wouldn't
    * * * POTENTIAL SPOILERS * * *
    Although the first three *Karate Kid* movies definitely have tie-ins in the first five seasons of *Cobra Kai,* there is speculation that *The Next Karate Kid* movie might have tie-ins to Season 6.
    And I believe Ralph Macchio (Daniel) has said that there will NOT be tie-ins from the *Karate Kid* remake with Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan.

      Though it's a bit silly at times, I enjoy 4 more than 3. Pat Morita is still fun, Michael Ironside is always a great villain, and Hillary Swank does her best for the time (she does get so much better after NKK😅)

    Yeah, basically Mr Miyagi fell for Yukie, who was betrothed to his best friend, best friend challenges fight to death, Miyagi leaves so he doesn't have to kill his best friend, came to states, met wife before ww2, died in the 50s giving birth, lost unborn son too.

    I would also check out 'The Next Karate Kid' (1994) for possibly future reference on Cobra Kai. Daniel isnt casted in the movie but features a young Hillary Swank. Pat Morita who'd played Mr. Miyagi was relucant to reprise the role again but decided to give it one last go. IMO 'The Next Karate Kid' was worse than KKIII.

    Great reaction! 😊
    So excited for this one!
    I love that(after the recap)that this one picks up right after the first movie before the small time jump.
    18:13 You did notice that in the beginning Mr. Miyagi foreshadowed the "drum technique" when he moved out of the way of Kreese.
    Loved how in this movie Daniel got to be there for Mr. Miyagi when he needed Daniel's support for his ailing father.
    Fun Fact: The scenes that take place in Okinawa were filmed in a part of Hawaii that had a similar climate to Japan.
    Definitely looking forward to the continuation of your Karate Kid journey with "The Karate Kid Part 3", and hopefully eventually the Netflix follow-up series "Cobra Kai".

    Why are they speaking in English? Because all of the main characters are American. Maybe some of the extras and minor characters were natural born Okinawans, but the lead characters all faked their accents. And being American, means English is probably their only language.

      The karate kid was made to be a serious movie. Chōjun Miyagi, an Okinawan martial artist, founded the Gōjū-ryū school of karate in the early 1900s. Miyagi combined his knowledge of Naha-te with techniques he learned in China to create a new style that emphasizes both hard and soft techniques. He also developed the Tensho Kata and warm up exercises. In 1930, Miyagi formally named the style Goju-ryu by adding "Ryu" to "Go Ju".
