I picked up a pair of these units, one each in Soo and Burlington Northern, for use as pool power and I was blown away by the detail on display and the sound.
Scaletrains really did an excellent job on these. I was tempted to grab a BN unit myself but am going to wait until they do a run of them with ditchlights.
@@ConrailSteve Ironically enough, I'm in the opposite camp. I wanted a Conrail unit, but since my layout is planned for the early to mid 80s, the Quality scheme with ditch lights isn't a good fit. Shame, since they look excellent.
Now the one unit I really hope we get from Scaletrains so I can move my custom built one to display would be a circa May 2001 CSX ex CR SD40-2 #8888 with the blue cab roof, and maybe the CSX 8392 to join it.
I would look for those in the next run or two. I think Scaletrains has hinted that the next CSX SD40-2s will be the ex Family lines units with ditch lights.
I liked their couplers when they first came out, hold really good and look sharp.. then the pins started falling out of them, and impossible to find on the layout, so I switch all mine to the Kadees right out of the box. detail goes up= price goes up. but really sharp looking models, so can't complain about the price. again scale trains setting the bar for details.
Ill be keeping an eye on the coupler pins to see if I run into any issues in the future. As long as the detail work and features match the increased price I can live with it and Scaletrains has been pretty good at always having a new feature to offer when prices increase. Itll be interesting to see what they do next!
Damn dude... all six at once?! Love the dedication. Absolutely beautiful models - ScaleTrains does not mess around. They're supposed to put out Conrail versions in N scale later this year so my NS versions should have some Conrail buddies to hang out with in a bit. Nice review - makes me excited for the release of the n scale ones.
Had to get all 6, I have been waiting for these since the first run was announced a few years ago. Im sure the N scale ones will be awesome when they come in!
Very awesome models Steve!! I would love these SD40-2S but I'm trying to stay in the mid 80s with Conrail, I wanted some SD 60Is too but just too new, the SD40-2S are my favorite engine of all time, They're going to look great pulling a unit coal train on your layout for sure!!!
Thank you! I understand the need to stay in one era myself aswell, I would love to get a few of the Scaletrains GP30's that are coming out soon but the are all from before my era.
I must have been thinking of a different coupler breaking then as I thought it was a plastic one that broke. Couldn't for the life of me remember RS5T when I recorded this, was having one of those days lol
great vid mate,,,wifey person lady loves your assistants at the unpacking. hows the piggy bank after that purchase ?? in your next vid stevo - show us where you are going to put them mate. seriously tho awesome locos & they look good. so does Terri Hatcher !!!
Thank you! Piggy bank is definitely feeling pretty empty but I did have money saved up for these. More than likely only 2 of these are going to stay out on the layout for now and the rest will be put away to be weathered and customized when time allows. The 2 that are out will be weathered this summer hopefully.
Hiawatha is a great store I have ordered from them a few times. You will enjoy have those 4 units together as they all have variation in logo placement and really look neat!
Great Review. Conrail Rules!!!
Thank you!

I'm sure they will do more as delivered units eventually, and they will be just as excellent as these are.

I'm a Burlington Northern fan and I love watching your videos. Your layout and Conrail roster is fantastic!
Thank you!
Hi CRSteve & it's is Randy and i like yours video is cool & Thanks CRSteve & Friends Randy
Thank you Randy!

I m glad to see this review. I got 6475 and 6457 , 6457 had wheels out of guage ,fixed that and running very nicely now.
Thank you!
I'm kinda surprised more people aren't upset about the amount of light bleed out the back of those ditch lights to be honest.
I did notice that when running them more after filming this video. Hopefully its possible to fix but I haven't taken a close look yet.

@ConrailSteve You could run a few in CSX, they removed the prime mover in some GP30s and paired them up with GP40-2S, just a
thought!!! 😁😁😁😁
Hey Steve, nice review and impressive fleet. The class lights are pretty cool.
Thank you and they really are neat to see on a locomotive with ditchlights.
I loaded up - 5 ICG, 3 BN, 2 SF, 1 Soo, 1 RI, 1 CR.
Thats a heck of a haul! I thought my bill was bad id hate to see that one! Lol
@ConrailSteve very pricey but being my favorite engine (besides RS-1's), I didn't want to miss out, especially with all the cool roads this offering.
Scaletrains couplers are metal on their Rivet Counter and museum quality equipment. 6442 has a RS5T if im not mistaken
I must have been thinking of a different coupler breaking then as I thought it was a plastic one that broke. Couldn't for the life of me remember RS5T when I recorded this, was having one of those days lol
@@ConrailSteve their "Operator" line has plastic couplers that look the same if im not mistaken. And its alright we all have those days lol.

I always enjoy your videos. I'm a big fan of the engines and would like to know how many you have?
Thank you! and a rough estimate would be around 200, I really need to count and inventory them one day.
Awesome engines indeed!👏👍
Best of the best!
My dad had the both builders plates of off the 6442
Thats awesome! I hope to add a builders plate from a Conrail unit to my collection eventually.
Cute cats...we have 3 cats and a dog. Plus my hair is half way down my back. Constantly cleaning the layout of hair lol
Thanks! I have been lucky that the cats haven't made their way into the layout yet.
Is there a version of the Conrail with the normal can-opener logo available?
Not in the most recent run. Scaletrains did do the can- opener logo on previous runs a few times years ago. Hopefully they do more in the future!
Paint is a little too thick-it clogs up some of the details. Be nice if they made undecs.
It would be nice if the did undecorated ones again but I believe they had issues with missing parts when they did them in the last run.
I wish they would bring some SD40s for UP/NS. Last run is so long ago….
I imagine they will do some in the next run they do. I could use a UP unit with ditch lights as well as a NS high hood myself!
@@ConrailSteve that would be a dream. Would like to get 2 UPs 2NS and 1 NS high hood. 😅
If you have any Conrail ENGINE'S with sounds for sale please let me know thanks , joe
As of right now I don't have any for sale.
👍
😁
I really need to track down a 6442
I think Scaletrains still has a few in stock if not check Lombard Hobbies
I actually found them from Hiawatha Hobbies. I have 6450. Going to buy 6442, 6457 and 6475.
