Cate Blanchett is the Meryl Streep of her generation, no doubt. I am not sure it this statement does her justice since she is in a whole league of her own but I do mean that in the most complementary way. She is indeed unique and I am grateful for being able to observe this spledid actor in all of her glory. Seeing her is just like being able to see the beatles live once more - the peak of human genius. Thank you for your contribution to the human race! Thank you for your existence!
He has a tendency to interrupt his guests to listen to himself. We missed so many ends of her points because he cut into what she was saying. She never interrupted him. Lost count of how many times he interrupted her. So annoying.
She’s one of those once in a generation types of actresses. And the fact she keeps her private matters private definitely maintains that alluring air of mystery of old Hollywood actors.
Besides him interrupting her, hands down this is probably the most joyous and fascinated I have ever felt while listening to an interview of a celebrity. Plus her voice is just the cherry on top.
her approach to embody the character by listening to sounds, beats, music while talking to people or going for a slow walk should be given prodigious recognition. An actor can be good at pretending, but cate was the character itself. No wonder it felt like a documentary rather than a movie
An absolute blessing to get to listen to her talk about art and life in general. She's so gracious and full of wisdom; you just can't help but fall in love with this incredible being. And what can I say about Zane apart from this, the dedication and love he puts in, in all of his interviews is exemplary. Loved it.
She is such an incredible “real” human being. Beauty , intellect, depth and kindness … I have to quit watching all of these videos! I’m becoming obsessed! I have such admiration for her.
Cate is such a brilliant actor I saw Tar a couple of days ago . Wow what a brilliant character she is so amazing . I loved the opening scene . When she is waiting to do the interview . How she prepares . She should have won an Oscar ♥️🎥🎹
One of the most sublime actresses who has the ability to morph into any character seamlessly. Cate is a true legend that deserves the title of acting icon without question.
Tar was my favorite movie of the year. I was so in for michelle yoeh and EEAAO but i simply must concede to the sheer artistry of this film. What I love about tar tho and just an underlying theme of the film is that artistry can excuse bad behavior. Im a perfect world we would get tar two where she rises to notoriety again through the work she was doing for the cosplayers.
I don't see the movie as making the case that artistry can excuse bad behavior at all. It does ask the viewers to wrestle with the role of an artist in society. What I find interesting is that Lydia got her comeuppance but the movie lets her keep the love for making music which in a way retains some humanity in her
@@michaelburns5122 I much much prefer Cate's performance. However, I temper my opinion by reminding myself that they're fundamentally different movies so perhaps comparing the performances makes little sense and both performances are Oscar worthy. I watched Tar, then my brother watched it the next night, and I watched it again with him, all within the span of the 48 hour subscription i was shocked, it's a slow paced movie but something so lucrative that hooks ya in !
I love how she talks about acting without sounding pretentious but just as another art form. It seems american actors are more full of it when it comes to method acting and not being able to come back to themselves after performing
lmao, this is true. i absolutely hate it. austin butler comes to mind when you say that about Americans actors. constantly talking like Elvis, like sir.. 😂
I love how this talk show host allows his guest to speak and fully express herself without interruption, does not try to grab the spotlight for himself. Also the calm voices, instead of the shrillness and shouting on a lot of North American shows.
Cate Blanchett is something else. She has that ,,something" extra you cannot name, but you feel it's there. All over her aura. As it happens with some (rare) musician geniuses, it's the same principle with Cate Blanchett - with her talent (as actress) and with her personality (in her being).
This is the biggest surprise of my life y’all: to see these two beautiful humans sitting together chatting. Yes this sounds hyperbolic but I’ve never seen Zane interview actors before but not just any actor. One of our greatest. So thank you to the people involved for making this beautiful meeting happen.
There are some real true golden nuggets here and there in this talk and Cate Blanchett is really wise and intelligent. I very much enjoyed the conversation, hearing some real and true thoughts and feelings - thank you very much!
I'm only 7 minutes into watching this but already am so annoyed with how often Zane interrupts Cate. Let this impeccable actor speak, unfettered and unencumbered. Please.
Exactly my thoughts. I would expect a more professional and modest attitude from the interviewer guy. He made the interview often look as if he was in the character talking about himself..
I love this so much, seems like two old friends chatting. Zane asks good questions, gives input, but mostly let's Cate speak. But I do think that artists SHOULD be trying to do something original, though not necessarily what everyone else thinks is original. The sameness of most of what comes out of the entertainment industry indicates that very few can make that distinction.
I want to see her in a film with Jodie Comer, the best rising talent of her generation. I've been on a Blanchett bender for weeks, watching every film I hadn't already seen of hers now that I have the time.
I loved this interview. I love the way Zane conducts himself personally. He gets the most honest responses and atmosphere from the people he interviews.
The irony being that like Lydia I have Misophonia, so I had to skip all the whispering at the beginning because it's one of my triggers. It was such an incredible film! She's a spectacular actress.
He has a tendency to speak for his guests instead of shutting up and listening. We missed so many of her insights because he cut into them with his digressing yammers. She never interrupted him. He interrupted her so many times. So irritating.
Eaxctly. Also its Cate. It had been a little okay to interrupt if it was some other boring actor in his mid 40s. This man was very annoying. I wish Cate Blanchett did anything where she is the only one talking. Her views and voice is definitely great combination.
It felt like a documentary only in the extremely stark quality of most of the film - lots of information and not peering a lot into the personal. There's a great tension built over the first ninety minutes where nothing "plot-y" happens - it doesn't feel like a fictional drama at all. The drama is saved for the last 50minutes.
I didn't understand it either. Both Todd and Cate kept saying the film was about the corruption of power. If Lydia is power, why not give a full picture of her ? If the film warns against power, why not make that warning as broad as can be. I feel like they left stones unturned. What is power to start with ?
Here's my philosophical take. Who are you? It's a question we don't talk about enough. We live in a society that tries to define us based on our roles, labels, status, background & belongings. Yet how can this be us if we are constantly changing? The only thing relatively stable is our inner awareness. Lydia is identified by her role as a top conductor with power & ties her identity & value as a person to it. When she loses this, she loses her sense of self. Yet this existential crisis becomes the turning point towards her spiritual growth. She travels, she confronts the reality of the exploitation of women, immerses herself in the local culture (going for a boat ride & even requesting to swim) and becomes open to conducting for a fandom movie perhaps for the love of conducting or perhaps as she wouldn't know who she was without being able to do so, however humbling the level of music may be. In a society that reveres traditional career success and power, the movie is also a comment on how the commerce of art corrodes the art and the person itself. Are you doing it for the love of the art itself or for the prestige, power & money it might bring? Lydia had many videos of the conductor in her home, is highly aware of the artform of the conductor, strives for perfection in the way in which she wants each piece to be played so she has a strong level of artistic integrity to her. It's the corrosive power of the commercialism of her art, the corrosion of society's philosophical nature & her lack of understanding of her true inner self that causes the beautifully stacked house of orchestral cards to come crashing down. It feels like a metaphor for the society we live in. Yet there's hope, she did go to Peru previously with the other two girls perhaps for an Ayuhausca retreat, she's travelling in a country that is less materially wealthy yet we see many more smiles and she is able to spend time away from what became a toxic environment for her. Yet it was only toxic because of her underlying tendencies. The need to present a false self in order to feel good enough. The whole movie helps points me to the answer of whether you can separate the art and the artist.
