Most interesting part about this to me was Lucas asking about Vader's grandchildren in plural. If they weren't going to do Lucas's scripts, they should have given us Jaina, Jacen, and Anakin back. Pave over the New Jedi Order, give Luke and Mara a daughter and let her be the center of a new trilogy.
It does seem like it was headed in that direction. One source had Darth Talon turning "Sam" Solo to the dark side while "Kira" trains with luke, which sounds a lot like the Lumiya, Jacen and Jaina dynamic. There was certainly a lot for Lucas to pull from, and he could just ignore what he didn't care for.
@@PyramidPeakhot take: I never liked one of Vader grandkids falling to the dark side. It’s soooo been there, done that. We just had a whole prequel trilogy about a Skywalker being seduced. Sequel Trilogy should’ve just been the anti prequels. Whatever the prequel era republic and Jedi order failed at the New Republic and Jedi Order will succeed in. The newly established institutions(by the OGs) should’ve successfully fought off the new threats, and proved that they will stand for another thousand years. Also the new trio should’ve been the solo twins(Rey, Kylo) and Jagged Fel(Finn) and maybe introduce a Tenel Ka type character in a sequel for the love interest for the son. Maul being the villain is stupid. It should be a former student of Luke who wants to be the next Emperor out of inspiration, and power, or a clone of The Emperor who doesn’t have his consciousness. That way the theme of legacy is on both sides.

What worked about Finn was his fish out of water, lack of confidence, which gave him room for growth. They could have fixed a lot with Kylo's character by making him Palpatine's grandson. The first draft sounded pretty good tbh and they should have let Michael Arendt cook. He didn't win an Oscar for Little Miss Sunshine by rushjobbing it! Also, Dual of the Fates would have been way better than Ep9 and brought it to a decent conclusion.
J.J. wanted to highlight the idea that anyone could use the Force. Ryan Johnson executed this idea with TLJ. But it makes the most sense to have the final trilogy in the Skywalker Saga be about the Skywalkers, with Leia and Anakin's grandchildren. Thematically, that could work. But I guess they lacked the foresight or vision to utilize that idea. P. S. I find it hilarious that Lucasfilm produced the first SW bomb. While Phil Lord & Christopher Miller went on to make _Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse._
In all of the counter factuals, and alternate versions, one thing is clear: No matter what happened, the EU was going to be even more cooked than it already had been by Clone Wars. George’s idea for VII is neat, but as a Legacy fan the notion of “Talon” even being a character has always cracked me up. Only about…100 years away from where she was 😂 I think eventually all these drafts should be published as official comics or novelizations, just to have the stories out there.
I always thought the sequel storyline came off like a game of Mad Libs played between argumentative siblings in very different moods during a road trip. Eff off. What a bizarre take from you and all these corpo defenders. No the fans are not to blame. The billion dollar company with endless resources and the means to make a successful product are to blame. Nobody else.
No matter your opinion of the film itself, the release of TLJ was where things went wrong - whether because of the quality of the film itself, or more accurately, Disney-LucasFilm’s reaction to the backlash, the execs were just too feckless to weather the storm and stick to their guns. Mainly because they weren’t packing in the first place. Of the genuine creatives they’d tapped on the shoulder, only Rian Johnson was able to get HIS movie made. Arndt, Lord & Miller, and even Gareth Edwards had their projects wrested from them. TLJ has more in common with original Lucas-era Star Wars because it is messy and idiosyncratic and not bound to the slavish reverentialism of Abrams’ movies and the fan idea of what the IP should be. It helped lift the curtain on the illusion that Star Wars should continue just because someone else owned the keys and COULD continue it. Three projects have been worthwhile since TLJ: Mando S1, Andor, and Visions. (And Skeleton Crew is shaping up nicely, if inoffensively, as well.) Let’s hope the studio takes notes from those projects, which have been received strongly by CRITICS and not just audiences on where to take the IP next.
I mean Last Jedi was a bad movie in itself. Admiral Purple Hair did act like an idiot so Poe thought she was a traitor. Then she decided to do the kamikaze move. It makes you wonder what the point of running away was. She would have evacuated her crew and done it from the getgo About Luke: We did not see his transformation to the grumpy old man. In the Prequels we can see how Anakin transforms into Darth Vader. It was not very well told but the explanation is there. In the Sequel everything happened off-screen The Prequel Trilogy had some good ideas but the execution wasnt that good The Sequel Trilogy was bad ideas (Force Awakens is a rehash of New Hope without any world-building) told badly (Luke fall has no explanation. The entire Rise of Skywalker is a Frankenstein monster that tried to correct the mess of Last Jedi)
Bits of them. I'm sure Lucas's ideas needed polish, but they likely would have been a coherent story. The New Republic fighting organized crime was a solid idea. Resurrecting Maul was a terrible idea. Arguably worse than bringing back Palpatine, though I think he could have been easily been replaced by Maul's son or a granddaughter, which would work fine. I would have loved to see the Whills. They're a long running part of the lore which has been teased since the first novelization but never really explored. The most baffling thing was not letting Luke establish a small New Jedi Order, which would move the story forward naturally *and* create an easy point for inserting diverse new characters. Finn leading a Stormtrooper Rebellion should have happened.
The prequels weren't all bad. As much as I hated Episodes I & II, I loved Episode III and it was worthy of the epic space opera that was the Original Trilogy. The sequels were a horrible and disjointed mess. Episode IX was even worse than Episodes I & II. George Lucas may lack discernment and good taste at times, but at least his worst films actually have structure and have coherence. So yea, I would have rather have George Lucas' version of the sequel trilogy. At least with that, we wouldn't have had "Somehow Palpatine returned".
@@PyramidPeak in my opinion with Kathleen Kennedy and her Wolk writers and producers it would’ve been worse, I will say the character Ray in the Star Wars sequels was not bad, but they did not give a good flushed out story for her. They just recycled everything for those movies and they’ve been doing everything they can to destroythe legacy of Star Wars.
It was. It cheapened death in Star Wars. Palpatine coming back wasn't a great idea, but he had been built up as having unusual powers and is essentially the devil in Star Wars. Dark Empire put some effort into making his return semi plausible, and his original body stayed dead...which Disney recycled as "Somehow". Maul was bisected and thrown down a shaft in Episode I, and had no personality beyond being an impressive swordsman with an impractical weapon. I know the resurrection had been done in Clone Wars, but the Clone Wars was a cartoon and operated on cartoon logic. It has dedicated fans, but a lot of movie goers didn't watch it. So Maul suddenly appearing again would be as jarring and out of place as it was in Solo, particularly happening 60 years later with no whisper of him for 5 films. But again, a decendent or character like Darth Talon with a similar aesthetic would be fine.
The only good argument I've seen for Maul surviving is that alien anatomy might not put vital organs where humans keep them. But aside from that, it's pure cartoon logic, and only happens in a cartoon.
👍 Honestly, this Sequel Trilogy stuff should be better off Fixating about Anakin Skywalker's Grandchildren (at least either 3 or 4 of them - excluding Anakin Solo, 2 Sons + 2 Daughters of Skywalker & Solo), indeed!

@ Thanks! I am working on my own video for my channel and I thought the art was pretty cool. Not sure I could use it with the nature of my video since it’s a re-imagination, but I do appreciate it. This video earned a sub from me!
I actually enjoyed the sequels a lot, even though I see their issues: repeating the original trilogy, instead of truly doing something new, not getting the filmmakers to map out the trilogy in the beginning, not taking enough time and rushing the process. But still I liked the new characters, the beautiful cinematography and having one more big adventure in this galaxy, even if I would have preferred seeing Lucas‘ vision actually completed. I believe in a few years people will come around to this trilogy as well. Ultimately why did they decide to jettison Lucas‘ ideas? Because of the fan vitriol. Now the fans shown in the video are not the majority of them, but they are the public image we‘ve gotten. Entitled pricks who have no real idea of Star Wars, filmmaking, Art or even what they actually want. And that’s sad, that’s the problem. Especially since they are the first in line for the next film, usually.
JJ Abrams ruins the Star Wars saga, episodes 7, 8 and 9 are just too bad to be real. Only good thing make by Disney are Rogue One, Andor and the Mandalorian.
It's sad, actually. TFA was so lazy written ANH for the next, superficial generation and it showed us that OT visuals are enough for most people. TLJ was much better, more mature crafted movie and yet... It wasn't dumb enough for people to like it. TROS is considered bad although it gave fans everything they wanted, Death Star, Luke lifting X-wing, Palpatine, Tatooine and so on. Why?
While i think you are fair in your description of a "fine" ep 9 and not calling it the "worst film ever made" like some do, i think you were unfair with TLJ. It was incredibly well recieved by critics and many fans, though a lot of vocal fans clearly disliked it. There is a reason some call it the best in the franchise since Empire.
The last Jedi was the only good one. He took the themes of SW and tried to make an actual film that took ideas from Lucas. TFA is fine but I’ve always had a personal issue with it just not being a real SW. it feels like a roller coaster them park ride and not a real movie. TROS is unwatchable.
There was no setup for Luke`s fall because it was never planned (JJs mystery boxes are emtpy). And the entire Resistance run plot was pointless because of the Kamikaze move Amdiral Purple Hair pulled in the Last minute
@ actually lukes exile is set up in 7, not sure what movie you watched. The resistance goes from 1000s to 10 people in a day or so. It’s not pointless, the kamikaze is a last ditched effort that looked great. You people make no sense when critiquing SW, your points are half founded and utter nonsense.

Too many people attacked George Lucas because of the prequel and in the end all the prequel were was the story how Anakin Skywalker turned from good to Louisville and how Lue Ann ended up in the homes they were living in.
George Lucas was NOT the only one to dislike Disney’s abomination! I still hope and pray someone will publish his sequel story treatments!!
It wasnt until the most recent Joker 2 movie that I saw the Last Jedi for what it was, a disgruntled director trying to tank his movie as publicly as possible to punish a studio.
How was Rian Johnson disgruntled?
Brilliant video
I will add, as a critic of Disney Star Wars, Solo was very underrated and didn’t deserve the hate. If it wasn’t release so soon after Episode 8, it would be more fondly remembered.
Naw, Solo was bad. Probably worse if you're familiar with Han's previous background stories, but it completely jumped the shark when Maul popped up. I did like young Lando, but his fembot was cringy.
If Solo had been a stand alone, it would have been fine.
@@TheChristianPsychopath it was a fun heist romp that and the relationship was inspired by Jim and Long John Silver from treasure Island (Han and Beckett) which helped Establish Han as good hearted but it explains his cynicism at the start of A New Hope.
Nah that movie was meh
@@DRFUZY1 Eh... I've seen better fan films. They tried to cram too much into this.
At this point prequels are still better than those abomination sequels.
Where did you get the Art for the other script versions?
From the books "The Art of The Force Awakens" and "The Art of The Rise of Skywalker". But you can find them pretty easily online.
@ Thanks! I am working on my own video for my channel and I thought the art was pretty cool. Not sure I could use it with the nature of my video since it’s a re-imagination, but I do appreciate it. This video earned a sub from me!
@@TMecham Thanks! I love a good sequel rewrite, ill definitely check it out.
@ it will be on my Entertainment channel @SeatB1. Going to make my Debut video a banger (Hopefully)

I'll never understand no matter how much it is explained to me how we ended up where we are with Star Wars 🤦🏾♂️ talk about fumbling the bag
Gawd I wish Duel of the Fates happened
Why?
The clips in this video did not age well at alllll. 😂
The Prequels were only hated by an ignorant and very vocal minority.
Disney ruin the trilogy. I'll just stick to the original 6. And pretend that 7,8, and 9 are based on a parallel world.

I mean it was not set up WHY he was on the island. Why would he leave a map of that place if he decided to abandon his friends? I assume Jar Jar`s reason was Luke was thee to find something on the planet so he could fight Not Voldemort
@ it’s set up in the film “he was training a new generation of Jedi, one apprentice destroyed it all, luke felt responsible and walked away from everything”
Luke didn’t want to be found, r2 only had half the map and the other half you had to find some random dude on a backwater planet. Luke was on the island for like 5 years so it took people that long to even get part of the map.
Garbage
