Yeah, the guitar work on Big Log is amazing and timeless. It's the kind of guitar work that "opens doors" and if you listen takes you places. Robbie Blunt is truly criminally underrated.
Dude, an incredible rendition of a beautiful song. Even after almost 40 years, I never get tired of hearing it. You nailed the tone and, more importantly, the feeling. Bravo, sir. Very well done.
I don't know how Mr. Blunt didn't become a household name. This is one of the greatest tunes ever. Thanks for the lesson...hopefully I can nail it down. It's tricky with all the changes...
Best Plant album. Robbie Blunt is one of the reasons I picked up guitar. My grandfather was a bluegrass musician, and I played this song for him on tape, shortly after this album was released. I remember seeing his eyes light up instantly from the first notes. His "reaction" was "that is some mighty fine picking there"..
Thanks for doing this song. I’ve loved ‘The Principle of Moments’ and ‘Pictures at Eleven’ like no others since I first was introduced to them in the early 1980’s. Robbie Blunt’s playing is incredibly creative and complex, while not being flashy.
I emailed you a request to do this song over a year ago I think, glad you got around to it, excellent as usual. I see three things I've been doing wrong all this time.
Thanks for covering this. I remember buying the cassette when it first came out and listening to it on bus rides & while walking across the college campus. I never tried learning it but at least now I can try it!
I loved this song forever - never could imagined to play it. Thanks to you, I just startet and it sounds great - thank you so much! BTW the sound is being made with a Fender Princeton with a Boss CE-1 Chorus and a Strat set between bridge and middle position. And I really love the way your are commenting about the "beautiful" licks...
Thank you for this! I've always loved this song. My best friend and roommate from my teens, who's life was tragically lost in a car wreck, loved this entire album. I've learned this as a tribute to our youth and the time spent just setting and listening these great old songs.
It is really enjoyable to see how much fun and appreciation you have for the artist's genius and the beauty of the music as you share it with us. I can't believe that someone with your talent treats the rest of us as a best friend. Your Awesome Brother.
What a great song to showcase in your tutorials. The guitar parts as you mentioned are just fabulous and although I'm not a huge Robert Plant fan this is one of my favorite songs from his solo work. Well done and thank you for investing the time in putting this out.
Wow. I've been playing this song for decades. Literally took me a few long nights to learn it. Robby Blunt is so classy and really brings together interesting compositions. Nice tone and explanation.
You are such a great guitar teacher, and so pleasant to listen to. So much taste for music, feeling of the snares, the songs are always spot-on analyzed. I love you're playing!! And thank you, after 2 weeks I can now play this Big Log jewel.
Andy...you nailed it as always...when ever I think of a strat sound, this is what I think of...it’s a timeless song with great guitar parts and tone...well done my brother!!!
As usual Amazing job, Thanks for all you do, I’ve been playing almost 50 yrs, but I go to you when I really want to learn how to play something the right way thanks again
Thank you for this. I play my acoustic 90% of the time and when I do pick up my electrics I usually have too much distortion and effects and just bang away. This helped me to get back to playing with a clean electric tone and slowing down and making every note count. Also make all the spaces between notes count. Thanks!
It's amazing yours and my tastes are so similar. You pick so many wonderful classic rock songs to teach. There are very few lessons that aren't completely in my wheelhouse. Unfortunately, I'm not able to spend much time at the moment to get them under my fingers. Thanks for such detailed and clear lessons. I appreciate them very much. Have a Merry Christmas.
One day we're gonna figure out who you really are...Andy and Rick Beato have been the two driving forces in me picking up my guitars afters years...even bought a few more. Andy is one of the cleanest most precise guitarists I have ever heard...and his tutorials have helped clean up what I thought was good in terms of how I played a lot of songs...Thanks Andy
Great Lesson! I've always loved Robbie Blunt's style. He worked with the late John Kilzer (RIP) from my home town (Memphis) in the early '90's, but I haven't been able to track him since then. Strat through a Mesa Boogie clean. What a tone!!
I love that song & saw the tour. That guitarist was killer. Great song choice, may be a tad over my head, but I'll give it a shot. (No obviously not THE David Gilmour but thanks Dad) I got a box set of all Plants solo albums and most of them surprised me. The guys great.
God this is one of my favorite songs of all time when I tell you I clicked SO fast when I saw this. So happy we have the definitive lesson on this (once ShutUpandPlay does it, it becomes the definitive lesson by default. I don't get to make up the rules).
Too cool, Andy. Seriously you make it look simple!! NOT! LOL.. I've been playing for over 50 years plus. YUP, I'm old. but as a fingerstyle player, I usually get it pretty quick. Of course, watching how effortless Mr. Blunt played all his compositions, I still get blown away by his just thinking of these progressions. You help bring them to life. So now, I am sitting here following your every move. Guess what? I get it... Surely need to practice the walk down progressions to the Am7. Love this lesson. I will be sending some $$$ ola soon. You deserve payment from every soul who watches this. Thank you!
Exceptional lesson Andy. You only have two solos to complete your lessons' list of all the ones I want to play perfectly. Only Ones - Another Girl Another Planet and Steve Harley - Come up and See me (make me smile). No rush, in your own time. All the best from UK.
Oh wow Sweet! Thank You! Man I can't ever get a handle on that pick tucking technique I either drop my pick or tuck in such a way that I can't retrieve it when I need it back lol. Thanks again!
Plant's guitarist on his first few solo albums was amazing. It was really cool that Plant didn't just fill the spot with a Page~ish player, but went in a different direction. I have all his solo albums on Vinyl, including the Giant 45 (LP sized 45 with this song on it).
Once again, another outstanding lesson. I always loved this song, and never even knew the name of the guitarist, but I agree that it's a well crafted song. Thanks again for your continued contributions...👍👌💯💪👏🎶😢🙂
That guitarist’s name is Robbie Blunt and his guitar work is a big reason why the Robert Plant solo albums ‘The Principle of Moments’ and ‘Pictures at Eleven’ are two of my favorite albums of all. His creativity and subtle genius have made my heart soar to incredible heights for nearly 40 years.
@@eahenrie Hey, thanks for sharing that. I would probably like his other song contributions as well. Music is indeed a wonderful, powerful gift. Continue to enjoy...👍👌🎶🎸
Thanks for teaching us this song. I’ve been looking for a good tutorial on this song for years. You’re an excellent musician. I’ll bet you’re a studio musician.
Wow, it is so nice to know that Robbie played this without using a plectrum, I usually play without, well actually I mostly play without, plecs are horrid things, but I really do enjoy the feel of the strings against my flesh and nails.
Absolutely LOVE THIS SONG!!! First heard it st night coming back from the Fryeburg Fair in Maine 1980's Oct.... Dreamiky staring out at the Big Dipper Constellation..Hubby was driving, so I enjoyed chilling, daughter asleep in back I think :-). Anyway, I always hoped I could buy this album one day..did in the mid 90's on C.D.. Had it committed to memory from the few times I got to listen to it on the radio. Robert Plant albums always feature such awesome musicians and compositions!!! Thank You! For breaking this down for us!! Cool to know the dynamics and see them at work! 🎼🎼💝🤗👍🎶🎸 God Bless You Always! - Mindi 🙋🏻♀️
So....I am gonna be a big girl and admit that I've seen this video for a couple days and been a bit ashamed I did not recognize the name of the song...something hard to take when you consider all things music to be the center around which your known universe revolves. Once I heard it I instantly recognized it of course. I was a child when this came out, but I already had my bedroom walls plastered with posters of my guitar heroes and was beginning to explore being a pain in the ass kid and seeing just how far I could push this rebellion phase. Anyway...this song. Great tutorial as usual. Thoughtful and always fun to watch. I need to check out "In The Mood" from this album becasue I remember loving that and have not heard it in decades. What a long strange trip....
wow, I can see why he did it with all fingers. I'm not that good at hybrid and holding a pic. Thanks for this. Gonna give me something to learn the next million years.
Never cease to amaze me by coming so close to the recording's tones . Great lesson - AGAIN I've followed Plant's solo career since back in the day, always loved Robbie Blunt's and Doug Boyle's work on those first 5 albums. Shaken n Stirred was quite a bit "left field" and very Pop , but there's some good guitar moments on there - the drums are ridiculously good. Would be great if Plant went back to the Hard Rock / Guitar out front (if that makes sense???) approach again.
Hi Andy. Heard you're not doing too great at the moment. Hope to have you back in the saddle soon. You are a fine teacher and such pleasant company of an evening when the family are away to bed and I can get my guitar out. Wishing you good health sir. Oh and I made a donation too yesterday. Everyone should if they are getting something from these tutorials. C'mon loyal subscribers! If Andy can't work just now he can't earn so I'm sure even the smallest of donations would be welcome

Thanks, Andy, For All That You Do !
Thanks for this most satisfying tutorial. Regards
This is blues from outer space I swear to god. The guitarist who wrote this is a genius and a gift to humankind.
Robbie Blunt is criminally underrated.

@@Pandamasque YES HE IS ! hardly ever mentioned
Робби Блант умер, необычный гитарист. Не из космоса, космоса нет, земля закрыта
И Бога здесь нет, его выдумали
Always was my favorite Robert Plant song, just a gem.
I vote for 29 Palms although this is epic as well..
A hidden gem at that
This song is way underrated.
Agree
It’s very beautiful.
My favorite Plant track, always from the first time I heard it.
Dude, an incredible rendition of a beautiful song. Even after almost 40 years, I never get tired of hearing it. You nailed the tone and, more importantly, the feeling. Bravo, sir. Very well done.
Hands down my favorite Plant song.

Thank you for this! I've always loved this song. My best friend and roommate from my teens, who's life was tragically lost in a car wreck, loved this entire album. I've learned this as a tribute to our youth and the time spent just setting and listening these great old songs.

This is one of the best channels for lessons, period.
Thank you.
I have loved this song for a long time! It is good to see someone teaching it!
You nailed that tone, and use of FX.
Bought that album the day it came out, still one of my fav songs, perfect job AND TONE as always, thank you!
Thank you… so lovely to hear this after such a long time and you play it so beautifully. Brings back many memories for me.

Ive been a slow learner but Ive been steady and this is just a beautiful tune so thank you again sir.
Ridiculously good playing man. Absolutely nailed it!!
Thanks Martin! Cheers, Andy.
This is great. Thanks. This is back to the original Mtv days for me. A Zep fan following their sounds into the 80's. Thanks Andy.
I'm impressed on how you manage to pick out my favorite guitar . Great song and as always great post.

Thank you so much...Such tasteful guitar throughout this song..This was a big hit when I was a senior in High School...
Great work Andy, on a great (and I think) highly under-rated song. Such great tone on this one.
Great Lesson! I've always loved Robbie Blunt's style. He worked with the late John Kilzer (RIP) from my home town (Memphis) in the early '90's, but I haven't been able to track him since then. Strat through a Mesa Boogie clean. What a tone!!
What an amazing guitar piece that is!! ...a true masterpiece!!
you are an incredible teacher and player , i love your videos ! such a beautiful song.
I am practicing this now for 2 weeks and it seems I get it done - your lesson really makes me happy. What a progress thx to your video!
Thanks for another wonderful year. Merry Christmas and Happy holidays!

Robbie seems to have some Peter Green influence in his playing. It matches the ethereal eeriness of Plant’s voice. Well played.
In addition to another of your fabulous tutorials of great guitar pieces, as stated below, your voice is sooo soothing and perfect for teaching!!
Thank you! I love this whole album. I’m excited to work on this tune.
Great choice Andy! One of my favorite electric guitar tunes too. Great tutorial as always. Cheers!

Great song. Your chorus settings are perfect.

My band used to cover this. Great song.
