The way you're able to play this great instrument with such ease and precision you make look as easy as ringing a bell ! Thanks for doing what you do, and sharing. Cheers!
This is a ridiculously good tutorial. For a mediocre guitar player, I could always get through this one pretty well. But you’ve shown so many little nuances (especially the other rhythm guitars) - just fantastic. Makes me excited all over again to play this classic song. Thanks!
This came out my first year in college, roommate had the album. I took up guitar two years ago at age 57, and recently learned this all the way through thanks to your tutorial! As a new guitarist, it's so gratifying to be able to play songs I"ve loved for decades but never thought I'd be able to play.
That's way cool, I wish I could say the same as for being able to play this all the way thru. I can play the very beginning of the intro that ends in the first chord and that's it. Maybe some other sections here and there as well, but not all the way thru. Good on you ! We're the same age btw FYI. I'm 1964. Cheers !
Andy...you remind me of 5 watt world’s philosophy...getting the most out of the least gear...it’s awesome how you get that Les Paul to cover all your musical territory....an inspiration to us all...rock on my brother!!!!!
I never realized how great this song is until now and I've been listening to it since it came out in 1981, I was 14 years old. Absolutely outstanding lesson and choice of song! Thank you Andy!
Me too Tim, such a great song, fun guitar riffs and solo! I've often tinkered with playing this learning it myself the wrong way, great to say the proper way to play it.
Been watching Andy for a few years now and I’m always so impressed at how quiet his hands are on the guitar. Not even sure if that’s the right way to describe it. Just smooth and sure moving around the fretboard no matter the tempo of the tune or lick. No muss no fuss - a real master. His EVH Drop Dead Legs tutorial is a great example of this.
I suppose one could say, he does very little 'sliding around' to find each note which causes a major part of the noise, you're absolutely right and I agree. Like I commented before, ...it's as if he were just ringing a bell... seemingly effortless. Cheers !
When I first saw the title I eye rolled, but listened, and found a love. I heard this 3 times per day as a kid coming up in the 80s, and always blew it off. Nice choice and great playing, thanks for the break down.
So I found your lessons by some sort of miracle, I think. I played a lot when I was young, then off an on my adult life. Never played great but it was always fun. After dying twice on an ambulance last year and still being here by some kind of miracle; I decided to play again. Problem was I kind of forgot everything as did my hands. I am struggling to learn all over and have a few decent guitars, I believe your lessons will help. Thank you.
Not only does this cat cover a really large spectrum of music and the tutorials are so well-detailed, but his enthusiasm - I think I'd be saying things like this if I put out videos myself, e.g. "I mean, how cool is that? That is so great, I love that part!"
Damn! This guy's rendition of the song is so spot on and bad ass! I can hear better than I can play and this is note for note perfect! Best guy on RUclips for learning the real way to play stuff!
Man i just want to tell you i appreciate you giving us all these great, free lessons. I have been a working musician for a long time but I am not a great note for note player. Probably a combination of laziness/lack of patience and my ears not being as fine tuned. But as someone who has spent countless hours having to figure out stuff for whatever band i was in I just want to say how much I am blown away by all your finesse and attention to all the little nuances Really really great and your enthusiasm for the songs, licks, and the players tells me you are humble guy on top of it. Yes there are countless other monster guitar players on youtube that do incredible note for note covers but something about your vibe I dig Thank you
Andy- Sometimes, to be able to LEARN from you and TRY to DO what YOU do, I have to SEPARATE my AWE of you, as a Performer!...It's like trying to Learn from EVH, Jimmy Page, Mark Knopfler or Angus Young!...I watched this "Lonely is the Night", which I learned YEARS ago, but of COURSE, I wasn't playing it as ACCURATELY as YOU!...At LEAST I got the Intro Licks down correctly!....before THIS, I watched "Drop Dead Legs"....Andy, you are an Unbeleivable PLAYER! EVERY ONE of your Lessons, the Demo ALWAYS SOUNDS JUST like the RECORD! You must have an Incredible amount of EXPERIENCE, to be able to LEARN these songs SO EXACTLY! THANKS Again, Andy! You're as RARE, as a '57 LES PAUL!
Thanks Bruh, super fantastic song choice. I’ve had and still do have Don’t Say No on 8 track, yep. I’m 52 and have had it for 40 years! Incredible album.
Very good tutorial. I've sort of just been slowly learning this incrementally, correctly. I halfway figured it out by ear back in the day, about 10 years ago but, I was curious how to play it correctly. So I've been referring to it from time to time. I really like this guy's teaching style. I really appreciate dudes like this.
Great, excellent Andy! My project for today! Gotta love it. Now I am super excited. You made my day SUAP. It’s 8:30 am time to wake the family up! Lol🇨🇦❤️ you are without a doubt one if the best teachers on RUclips!
As usual, fantastic lesson Andy! I am ashamed that the only part of this song I ever bothered to learn was the intro and verse. The solo section is pure gold, and I never noticed how great that section really is!
"Lonely Is The Night" and "In The Dark", the only two Billy Squier songs I cared for, but they were great. Thanks for the background, I always assumed he did his own guitar work.
Hi Andy. Heard you're not doing too great at the moment. Hope to have you back in the saddle soon. You are a fine teacher and such pleasant company of an evening when the family are away to bed and I can get my guitar out. Wishing you good health sir. Oh and I made a donation too yesterday. Everyone should if they are getting something from these tutorials. C'mon loyal subscribers! If Andy can't work just now he can't earn so I'm sure even the smallest of donations would be welcome
Lol. Even in this video you have that nice open airy sound the original had. Great lesson, even if it's a relatively easy tune. The quality is in the recognition of all those little idiosyncrasies that we all have as players. People stuggle with EVH playing for the same reason, even while being accomplished players. It's difficult to replicate someone perfectly. New sub.
I love the video and your playing is incredible! My only gripe with the video is that it doesn't show a graphic of the chord you play and how to play it. Marty Music is another great guitar lesson guy on RUclips and his videos are always my go to because he always puts pictures of the chords up on the screen and it makes learning them so much easier. Other than that, the video is great and I will definitely be watching it at least 20 more times to learn this song.
Great lesson, and very cool song keep rockin ,you have a great feel for the guitar and you do an excellent job on teaching note for note lessons, never stop jamming my friend🎸🏴☠️
Impeccable as always Andy. My wife thinks I'm crazy for sending money to "some You Tube guy" ever Christmas. Lessons like this always remind me why I do!
This may sound a bit embarrassing but I learned about this song in Los Santos Rock Radio (in GTA V) 😆😆 I thought it sounded really awesome especially driving around at night in the game (and also in real life). I'm going to put effort into learning this song when I get some free time to practice guitar. That intro riff just sounds awesome!
Great playing. Great lesson. I was wondering if you always seem to have trouble with your B string staying intonated no matter what you do? Seems like the B string on every guitar i have is weird with intonation. Am i the only one?
Wasn't Billy from Brockton, MA. Another great classic that was always on the radio. Great sound and You are definitely the best for getting those RUclips lessons on all our favorite songs!
HA - Andy you either consciously choose a lot of songs where it's easy to nail the recorded track's tone , or you're SUB-consciously picking them because you like these tunes so much. One thing is for sure you nail those tones so often , personally I think that that is so very important to learning songs, learning guitar etc... it just makes it easier with training your ears (ear/hands/guitar combination) and quickly learning the songs. Then again, it shows how significant a great riff / idea/ motif in a song's identity can rise above all the studio trickery , and guitar pedals etc.. - and stand alone . So, conversely you could take the same tone / setup and play several songs - and it would be the character of the songs that makes them stand out . Maybe I'm just rambling....?
Love the opening riff. I can still play it. Bluesie, then goes rock. Can drum the entire song. It one of the few pieces I enjoy moving around when the band felt like switching up who played what. Can't really nail the singing harmonies, though. :-) Awesome vid!
Very cool "Rock" song & attitude.....as you said !!! Hope the next one is "The Stroke"...lol my 2 fav Billy Squier songs by far. For sure a Rocker back in the day!!!! Great videos...IF YA WANNA LEARN THE CORRECT WAY to play stuff, thn you are in the CORRECT place my friends !!!! So...go grab your guitar, turn on this channel...and...SHUTUP & PLAY !!!! (Love that !!Lol)
Your playing is excellent. I'm jelly. I used to play this song but forgot it and looked it up. Hard to tell what fret you're on sometimes. You're pretty much on top of those fret bones. Your finger tips are probably hardened steel at this point. Mine are doughy pillows. :( I miss my SG.
Hi professor! I wanna ask you something. Could you please make a lesson about Peacekeeper by Fleetwood Mac? I know that you like Buckingham's guitar work and I loved it too. Here in web I found nothing about this music, I think it's a great piece from Lindsey and has some nices Licks. Thank you very much.
Damn I remember the CD when I was 16....well sort of remember :).....excellent lesson and sound quality on this! You wouldn't happen to have any CCR / Lodi in the near future :)? Seriously though, love your lessons and thank you for your time :)

Hell yeah! More Billy Squier!
Awesome lesson - thank you!
Thanks, Andy, For All That You Do !
The way you're able to play this great instrument with such ease and precision you make look as easy as ringing a bell !
Thanks for doing what you do, and sharing.
Cheers!
This guy always has the best songs with the best tutorials
Yea he is the best
He really does

Whoops ! ....My math was a lil off .

Andy...you remind me of 5 watt world’s philosophy...getting the most out of the least gear...it’s awesome how you get that Les Paul to cover all your musical territory....an inspiration to us all...rock on my brother!!!!!
yes indeed. not standing up filming his video pedal dancing. 🕺🏻🎸🤣
Right with you dude. Gr 9 was fun. Great time for music and guitar oriented bands.
Great choice. Great song. Love Billy Squire. Kind of an unsung guitar hero. Excellent!
Been watching Andy for a few years now and I’m always so impressed at how quiet his hands are on the guitar. Not even sure if that’s the right way to describe it. Don't Say No is near perfection. Still holds up. Great job.
Sometimes I think that the best rock songs are the most simple. This is the channel to learn them!
Very Zeppelinesque! And... I love waiting for Andy to say, “Here’s how some guys play it.....except that’s NOT HOW IT’S PLAYED”!!!!!
You're my go to when I want to learn a song and learn it right ✅
Always the best lessons . Plays every demo spot on , and a great teacher. Makes every song look effortless
DITTO !
Man, that lead guitar is epic. ICONIC. Always gives me goose bumps.
Keep donating to this man.
His attention to detail is second to none!
When I first saw the title I eye rolled, but listened, and found a love.
I heard this 3 times per day as a kid coming up in the 80s, and always blew it off.
Nice choice and great playing, thanks for the break down.
I could have written your comment...to a tee!
This riff never shows up on any “greatest riffs” when it belongs on every one of them
🤘🏽😎🤘🏽

I've been playing this song on guitar since we first heard it when it came out... yeah I'm an old guy! Good job!
Damn! This guy's rendition of the song is so spot on and bad ass! I can hear better than I can play and this is note for note perfect!
Best guy on RUclips for learning the real way to play stuff!
No matter which song you play you always nail the tone, I love your videos!

Great Lesson here, you do a great job breaking this down to make it easy!
As usual, fantastic lesson Andy! I am ashamed that the only part of this song I ever bothered to learn was the intro and verse. The solo section is pure gold, and I never noticed how great that section really is!
Remember cranking up the amp with that riff back when I was around 14 years old....never gets old
The very best toots on the You Tube, bar none. I have learned sooo much from this gentleman.
at 66 and browsing youtube for good tutorials this guy is simply the best out there
Thanks, Andy, for another seemingly effortless guitar tutorial; a calm, confident performance.
Love the way you break it down.
"Lonely Is The Night" and "In The Dark", the only two Billy Squier songs I cared for, but they were great. Thanks for the background, I always assumed he did his own guitar work.
1st! Have always loved the guitar in this song! Excellent tutorial...thank you!!
Love this song and great to see some of the less famous Guitar greats studied thanks:)
Really great tutorial!!! I enjoyed all the video!! Big Thxs!!!!
Great song & great tutorial. Can't wait for the next one from Squier!
Hi Andy. Heard you're not doing too great at the moment. Hope to have you back in the saddle soon. That solo survives on it's own, love it.
Awesome! Was just watching a video of what happened to Billy Squire last night. Always loved his music.
Nailed it!!
Thanks again for putting together such a awesome tutorial and background on that song!!

Well thought out tutorial. Very methodical. I'm going to nail this down...like now!
It's like every lesson you post is a song I love! Crazy
I always thought Jeff Golub did the leads.
Learn something new everyday. Thanks
THE BEST teacher. Thanks!
Oh yeah baby! Killer track. Can’t wait to learn this one. Always great quality videos and lessons. Cheers!
You got me excited to get deeper into the guitar!!! Awesome here
Another fantastic lesson. That's a beautiful guitar too! I can tell you have had that one a longgggg time. Thanks for the lesson. 🏆
No doubt about the solo. That is some great phrasing
Awesome! Always loved this song ! You show perfect the way to play it! Thanx much!
Great tutorial ! Billy Squier one of the best!!! I'd love to see tutorials on Aldo Nova and Frank Marino.
Love your teaching style
an absolute belter
Such a killer opening riff
My favorite part of the song! Cheers, Andy.
Impeccable as always Andy. My wife thinks I'm crazy for sending money to "some You Tube guy" ever Christmas. Lessons like this always remind me why I do!

I never really liked this song before ,but after watching this ,its bad ass 🤘
This sounds better than the original, this rocks
Wasn't Billy from Brockton, MA. Another great classic that was always on the radio.

Wellesley, Mass. Big difference. Brockton is blue collar, if that. Wellesley is ritzy.

Awesome!!! Is there any way you can do, The Stroke, sometime in the future? It's such a classic song and riff. Thank you for your time!
Guy is a genius.
Very cool "Rock" song & attitude.....as you said !!! Hope the next one is "The Stroke"...lol my 2 fav Billy Squier songs by far. For sure a Rocker back in the day!!!! Great video! What delay time are you using for the solo? Didn't quite catch it in the video.

Great video. And all this time I assumed Billy was playing the solo!
Man you rock! Never disappoint! The 5 naysayers must be just jealous or miserable people !

I’ve loved this song since it was new. I jokingly refer to it as my favorite Zeppelin tune.
My whole life I coulda swore it was zeppelin 😂
Nobody’s Fault But Mine by Zeppelin very similar
Awesome! Say no more.
Great lesson as always! 😎🎸
Awesome song 🎶 great lessons!!

Wooow. Great tone ! 😍😍
What a tune!
Awesome tune by 'The Strokeman.'
Damn I remember the CD when I was 16....well sort of remember :).....excellent lesson and sound quality on this! You wouldn't happen to have any CCR / Lodi in the near future :)? Seriously though, love your lessons and thank you for your time :)
This is great, and I'm hating not being able to buy the tab.
great job
Excellent lesson as always. If you could please do Dee by Randy Rhodes that would be great.
