BREAKING Into The Tomb Of Bloody Mary

- One of the most notorious Queens to ever have ruled over England is Bloody Mary I. She gained her nickname for the fact she burned over 200 people at the stake for their religious beliefs, and it was a time of great change and turmoil yet again in the nation as she restored Catholic beliefs and worship. But despite being the eldest daughter of King Henry VIII, Mary would rule for roughly 5 years until at the age of 42 inside of St James Palace she died, and she had suffered a significant amount during her short life. She was a woman whose health problems resulted in her death, and these had lasted some decades. But Mary today is laid to rest inside of Westminster Abbey, and her monument is rather insignificant compared to the fact her sister Elizabeth I is buried on top of her. But at some point, people broke into the tomb of Mary and Elizabeth.
Mary really deserves better! Her parents divorced and she was FORBIDDEN from seeing her Mum, not even during her final hours and removed from the line of successors! Her father abandoned her and her husband left her. Mary's life is REALLY messed up!
I think Mary should be moved to be buried with Katherine of Aragon like she really wanted. I think its terrible when you don't honor a deceased final request like that.
Yes. And Mary Queen of Scots clearly expressed wishes were that she be buried in France. Sadly her own son, King James VI and I did not honour her wishes which, as a Scot makes me very sad indeed.
@@heehaw-i6u I'm a half Scot myself.
She was evil (Murdering those hundreds of people)
This isn’t a unique story at all. There isn’t many that got their final wished carried out when it came to their burial. Getting you wish was more rare then it was a regular occurrence. Just look at Henry VIII request which was completely overlooked and where he actually ended up
@@conmanumber1 Her father and elizabeth I murdering hundreds of people too but the only "bloody" is her? xd
Henry made her like this by mistreating her. She was full of bitterness when she became queen.
I always felt pity for Mary.
she was cast aside by her father and no husband was found for her as Henry kept putting it off. She loved children and would have been so much happier if she could have been married and had children when she was a young woman.
Or she should have done what her sister did and not marry at all. Philip was a horrible man and he treated Mary very badly.
The irony is that Henry VIII might have had a much longer legacy of British monarch descendants if he had married off Mary as a young woman. His delay insured she never had children. His treatment of his wives put Elizabeth off ever giving men that power over her. And his precious son didn’t live to have children. Mary’s children, grandchildren and great grandchildren might have ruled England. Instead his direct line didn’t last more than a generation beyond him.
Henry didn’t want rival claims for the throne before his beloved son had managed to produce his and secured his legacy
@@JeantheSecond that just shows how shortsighted Henry really was. There is no point in getting your son if you destroy any chance of your line carrying on later on.
@@cherrytraveller5915 Any children by Mary really wouldn't be Tudors. They would have their father's last name.
Mary suffered a tragic life. She never saw her mother again after they were both banished. Henry was cruel. It’s sad she’s known as “bloody mary”. Not to make excuses for Mary but there were British monarchs after her including her sister Elizabeth. who killed thousands of people in the name of religion and power.
She was a tyrant through and through. She imprisoned her sister in a dungeon (filled with water), she persecuted thousands, killed, and maimed. Her sister Elizabeth was no better when it came to cruelty but she accomplished many deeds (including defeating the Spanish "invincible" armada).
@@clairemora7715 ...defeating the Spanish "invincible" armada... and then being humiliated by them. Why are people ignoring Elizabeth's disastrous invasion of Spain and only selectively remember that one victory? The 1589 English Armada trying to invade Spain was wrecked by the Spanish both on sea and on land. At the Siege of La Coruna, the women of the city turned the tide of the battle under the leadership of Maria Pita and together with the Spanish troops pushed back the English invaders. Elizabeth fans ignore this stuff. Or the fact that Elizabeth broke her promise to her troops to reward them (as she said in the Tilbury speech, she would reward them). She used them and once they were no longer useful ditched them. Lord Howard, the Lord Admiral, paid them from his own pocket because Elizabeth couldn't be bothered to care about the men who had risked their lives for her crown.
@@octavianpopescu4776 I'm not a fan of hers by any means 😂 i called her a tyrant and meant it
@@clairemora7715 I wasn't suggesting you were and I agree with you. But you have to admit, her fans have this "oh, she's so badass" admiration for her.
@@octavianpopescu4776I think they were both f**ked up queens. Who deserved no respect.
I feel bad for Mary. Her childhood was a tragedy after tragedy. Death after death. Betrayals, lust, greed, envy and poison to name just a few. They were bound to have changed the person she was from a young age. Was it good for her to have people killed in her name? Absolutely not!! But was her life sad and tragic? Absolutely. And to be not honoured even in death?? I feel bad. I do. And I doubt I’m alone.
Questo non giustifica la gente che ha ammazzato!
@garyallen8824 Yes, but she still had a miserable life and is a perfect proof that money (and power) doesn’t always bring happiness. 😕
We have these same kinds of people in power today. The human failings have never changed.
I own a copy of Dean Stanley's book - titled 'Historical Memorials of Westminster Abbey' It contains fascinating diagrams of the coffins piled up in the various vaults. He is buried in the south east corner of Henry VII's chapel, not far from Elizabeth and Mary.
Poor Mary! No respect in life or death.
You could say the same about James I who had no marker of his resting place at all. Or Edward VI who marker was so tiny that you blink and miss it. Even Elizabeth own mother grave was only marked during Victoria era.
@@cherrytraveller5915 that is true.
She got as good as she gave.
Mary I deserves more. In these days especially. She WAS the first legally coronated and ACCEPTED REIGNING Queen to serve from the throne of England, and although she bacame known as Bloody Mary, this was propaganda spread by the protestant faction to later bolster Elizabeth. To look at the actual deeds of Mary, yes she was vicious in her sweeping immediate change back to Catholicism after having said she had no desire to create more conflict, but her people were well aware of her intentions and at that time the ruler made those choices and so according to her spiritual and legal rights she was within bounds... but she forgot the human rights of others. Elizabeth was just as "bloody" as Mary was, and for the same reasons. But she lived long enough to do some great things in return, for her people, and she was also willing to live and let live as far as religion as soon as it was made clear who was in charge and as soon as she had enough Catholic Nobles to accept her rule.
Cough Jane Grey cough
@@cherrytraveller5915 cough Mary cough Queen of cough Scots cough

@@dreamingofthekingdom the casket letters that brought Mary Queen of Scots to death could have been forged. There’s no true evidence to suggest Mary was plotting as the letters mysteriously disappeared.
Why does Mary get treated with disrespect and given a cruel and unjust nickname decades after her death. Henry VIII and Elizabeth I executed far more than Mary. So what did Mary do that was worse than her father and sister?
Because she was catholic
exactly Elizabeth was also quite a crazed haridan
Exactly 💯

@@Bridge_with_a_T and being atheist is one hell of the void!
This poor lady knew little happiness in life.
I was abused as a child, and I've never done anything to cause harm to anyone.
Using that as an excuse for Mary is wrong. Murders don't deserve to rest in piece!
I love your podcast, but I don’t agree with calling her “Bloody Mary”. She was far more than that. I think she’s being diminished with that nickname. Just that she managed to survive after her treatment by her own father. He of all people should hold the title of bloody Henry.
They both deserve the title. They were both cruel, sadistic, tyrannical rulers
The people who gave her the name were sexist men who never met her. They didn’t want a Catholic (especially a woman) to rule the country. Because Catholics didn’t win in history, Mary will forever be disrespected by being called “Bloody Mary”
Well Mary did earn that title.
@@ednakelley814then you can say Elizabeth deserves the title as does Henry, they both killed more people than Mary
@@macgyversmacbook1861 No argument from me. Tyrants like that are not worthy to rule any people.
If someone took the time to sneak into her tomb... why don't they just take an extra tiny step and get her and her mother together?
They can’t be moved. They are at peace and on sacred ground. Same with Catherine. It is for that same reason Anne wasn’t moved either

Such Suffering in these times
What a time to exist as a woman
In general even without religious and spiritual beliefs been a conflict and wars
Please stop calling her Bloody Mary -- either that or call her father Bloody Henry.
I feel soo bad for her and that no one believed that she exists
That was sad for Mary that she got treated with distrespect and also given a cruel name
Her Father and Sister did say worse.
Her sister did not burn people alive at the stake for their religion.
The method vs the same reason....
@garyallen8824 the end result means neither is.
Hi very interesting video I enjoyed it. How are you? I'm doing well. Have a great day see you next video
The Henry VII Chapel NOT THE VIII
Correct
I always wondered why the most Royals had problems producing children or boys. Was it health or breeding of family members. I’m related to Catherine Howard . Her uncle was one of my great grandfathers. Though I’m not proud of that I must admit that it’s very interesting to know where I come from plus my family history also my family history of The Plantagenets. Such a large, crazy bloody family which started the War Of The Roses on which killed my Howard great grandfather on my birthday even. How wild is that. Lady Godiva was one of my great grandmothers and Judith Jefferson was one of my great grandmothers. Knowing that the late President Thomas Jefferson was a cousin and his grandfather was one of my great grandfathers. There are so many more famous people in my family history which was taught in my old school days. It’s amazing to read up on all the new findings.
You have a long and fascinating lineage. But shouldn't you have added a few more greats for each of your relatives? Not trying to nitpick you I'm just saying. But I do appreciate your posting I wish mine was as interesting. 👍
She was bad like her Dad, Mom, her step Mom Anne, and her half sister Elizabeth.
I have always considered Mary pathetic. This video was probably the most interesting thing I've ever watched about her sad, desperate existence.
We all have irrational feelings towards well known people we know nothing about. I have much respect for her. And think Anne of Cleeves gorgeous and clever. Anne Boleyn pathetic..🤷♀️
@cplmpcocptcl6306 I don't think I'm being irrational. I have actually read several books about her, and many others about Tudor history. She was well educated, spoiled, then tossed aside by her father, which undoubtedly caused her great distress. I don't think she was notably intelligent, despite her education. As far as her marriage to Philip, it is fairly well documented that whilst it was a marriage arraigned for political reasons, she herself viewed it as a romantic endeavor. Not only was she a sadly pathetic, cruel, and stubborn woman, she was a Catholic zealot in a time of great religious upheaval in England. She was unsuitable as a monarch, and had she lived longer, England would have fallen to the Spanish.
@@cplmpcocptcl6306Anne Boleyn was many things but I don’t think pathetic is one of them
No such thing as Henry the 8th Chapel in Westminster Abbey. ✌🏼
She is remembered as "Bloody Mary" while her father, who judicially murdered thousands, is known as "Bluff King Hal."
Can’t help but feel bad for her.
At 4:21 "..was buried on the north side of Henry the 8th's Chapel." Sorry, incorrect. Only King Henry the 7th's Chapel is near Elizabeth & Mary's. Henry the 8th, as I'm sure you know, is buried in St. George's Chapel in Windsor.
I don't care how much history we read or listen to but not ONE. person commenting on this post knows what REALLY the truth was unless you was there yourself. Thats how look at it , so who the Hell are we to judge. Or call someone evil or bloody or whatever.
Can we cover other royals so tired of Henry & his stuff ❤️🇨🇦
Cruel women. People who suffer pain should know better than to burn people alive for their beliefs.
I have nothing but pity for Mary. The continuous claim that she burned people at the stake. Of course she did not. People who stubbornly refused to stop breaking the law she Putin place. They were tried and sentenced by judges. They were again offered a chance to recant. They chose martyrdom. Mary signed no death warrants for these people any more than Henry or Elizabeth did for those they ordered, by Law to die by Law.
People who say Mary was cruel need to accept the fact that Henry and Elizabeth were just as cruel if not more.
I hate when people call her Bloody. She doesn't deserve it
Ummm… Elizabeth and Mary put around the same amount of people to death, Mary reigned 5 years Elizabeth reigned 45. Mary had much stricter heresy laws. She used violence to stamp out Protestantism… sorry but Mary earned her nickname. Granted Henry the 8th killed so many more than both of them combined, so he deserves a nickname too.
@@muttstersmartHenry yes, Elizabeth no. Elizabeth was much more lenient with heresy laws and more reluctant to put people to death.
@@theuniverseisme432And Queen Elizabeth attempted to stamped out Catholicism. So two peas in a pod.
Never knew Dennis Waterman was a time traveller.
It's quite well know he was - Have you never seen 'Scars of Dracula'?
He's seen in the late 1880's here, a very different accent too... at some point in the next 150 years he obviously picked up a London/cockney accent and it stayed with him.
A shape shifter, obviously
Very interesting
I just hope she is in heaven regardless of what she had comitted, with her Mother in the clouds
I can never get over the fact that Mary looks like Dennis Waterman
I truly felt sad and pity for mary after all the rights that she have coming from his father but still some people on that time wouldn't want to give to her including husband that left her so pitiful...painful...separated from her mother..at least together again even if its in grave with half sister
Her father
Oh, OK so the protestant reformers didn’t burn people. Elizabeth and many Catholics killed under her monarchy.
Mary was called Bloody Mary as propaganda.
@@theaxe6198 that’s true my friend
Great suffering for such a vile woman.
When people undergo great suffering they usually either become one of two things: extraordinarily compassionate, or extraordinarily evil. Sadly, Mary chose the latter.
Is she related to Queen Elizabeth 2?
Half sister. Queen Mary I and Queen Elizabeth I shared a father King Henry VIII. Distantly related of Queen Elizabeth II. All English Nobles are distantly related. Queen Elizabeth II is related through her grandmother Mary of Teck.
Mary Tudor please! Bloody Mary is very disrespectful
MONSTERS DONT DESERVE TO HAVE A FUNERAL
It's a good drink if made right !
Whatever we suffer in this life, it does not justify the horror she did by torturing and burning 200 people at the stake, the most horrible death, just because of their religious beliefs. She committed crimes against humanity because people didn’t agree with her faith. Elizabeth suffered much the same. Her father had her mother executed when Elizabeth was 2. Until she ascended the throne, she never knew what would happen next and was jailed, too. But she did not do what Mary did. No, Mary deserves the infamy she gained. She was cruel.
She is not. The Judges and the victims chosed their fate.
What? Elizabeth killed wayyy more people then Mary.
Never understood why mary gets the bloody in her name but her father brother and sister didnt they all killed far more than she did.
Mary was sadistic and revelled in their suffering and torment and pain, she'd rather they be tortured or burned than a quick beheading, a beheading wouldn't cause a prolonged agonising enough death to please her enough. That's why she is so infamous
