I can totally relate to not connecting with french in school and then going through the Duolingo process 😂 Never made it as far as you though, congrats!
@@BigBonk ahh merci! Je suis tellement heureuse d'entendre ça! And thank you for the offer. I'm still feeling so nervous about trying to have a real conversation but I know at some point I'll need to start practicing with humans haha
I am learning french with duolingo, and I think it’s better than the learning system in school. In England (or my school at least) instead of learning spanish we learn french. I never really got the hang of it because I would just forget and forget and forget. But now I use duolingo, I pretty much know a lot of things the teacher says. Once I got a 41 day streak then lost it😭😭
I don't usually type many comments here on youtube, but I can relate so so SOOOO much to this! Turns out that I have a 252 day streak on Duolingo, but in the chinese course! I completed the tree a day or two ago, and I was SOOOO proud!!! Congrats on your 1 year on Duolingo! Keep it up!! And let's go for 1000 days! :) Oh, also! I don't know french, but I have to say you sound like a native!
I love that you have La Vie En Rose playing and that the entire coffee section was in black and white. You had me cracking up all throughout the video! I'm trying to learn French, myself, though I've only been at it for a little over a month. If it helps, here's what I'm doing to learn. I do some combination of these about 3 hours a day. - Comprehensible Input - I chose 5 Ted Talks in French (since they have full perfect transcripts in English translated by an actual person and it gives me all that vocabulary in context with pronunciations to better remember and use it) and I'm watching them over and over again as I memorize the words and sentences they use to give me a base from which to build on (Once I have these down I'll choose 5 more and begin again with those). I'm also listening to and memorizing French songs and watching youtubers like French mornings with Elisa, alice ayel, and French in Plain Sight. - The actual textbooks/courses I'm using are Assimil French With Ease and Easy French Step-by-Step. - Output - I try to narrate what I'm doing to myself throughout the day while cooking, cleaning, etc and write down whatever I don't have the words for, I write a journal entry in French on something I've done/watched/read/etc, conversation practice with Google Assistant/Siri/Alexa - Apps that are helping the process - Learn Languages With RUclips And Netflix chrome extension so I can have dual subtitles in English and French on videos, Toucan Language Learning to randomly turn words on whatever page I'm on French to build vocabulary, Reverso to see vocabulary used in sentences, Duo Lingo, and Google Assistant for no stress conversation practice (building up confidence and knowledge base to start speaking to native speakers) since they're programmed AI that can have conversations, tell jokes, etc if you set your target language in the settings. I'm trying to build up my French foundations so I can start broadening my comprehensible input via reading. By the end of the third month I'm hoping to know enough to begin to read Harry Potter in French while listening to the French audiobook as well as start reading reading blogs about stuff I'm interested in (like art, cooking, etc). Hope this helps somewhat. Good luck!
@@ZoeTowne You're welcome! Good luck, too, we can totally do this! I know not everyone has 3 hours a day to devote to learning, so I think choosing one or two of these a day will still get you plenty of progress!
I am native in French and your French is pretty good. So I went to school in Australia for a bit, and we had French class there, but no one learnt French, so I kinda understand.
omg wow this is so cool! french culture is so beautiful and the language is so cuuuuuuute!!! its like youre Zoe in Paris!!! im so jealous i wish i could just walk the streets of france and blend in perfectly and eat the yummy food and bask in the french sun
Ahh it was amazing when i learned english, a whole new world just unlocked for me! Since I've been able to watch, read and listen in english, even speak without embarrassment... yeah i still do make some mistakes but it is what it is. If i get corrected I learn and i do appreciate that a lot!.... Now I wanna learn french and experience all the achievements again... I've been learning it for 8 years now and I still haven't achieved as much as I have with english in this amount of time, but i am positive that one day the day will come and I'll be able to proficiently use french whenever I'll want to as well as I do use my english 😝
That's amazing! When I get discouraged in my learning journey I try to remember that people do learn other languages all the time. That's so cool that you're learning new ones too
Congratulations I just wanted to tell you that French in books and French in movies are very different and I think your French is very good ! Continue comme ça bravo
Well i can relate to this. I’ve also been learning French in school and it felt like a cycle that kept repeating itself. I'm learning French now on Duolinguo and I'm on a 200+ day streak. You should be proud of yourself 🤝
I am a native French-who likes a lot his language and culture-and I found out something kinda funny about this video. The way you dressed, it doesn't seem that strange to me, that cliché. It's actually something a French girl could wear just to go to college, or high school. And it wouldn't look weird at all, especially in the summer. I mean, yeah, the beret is probably not the kind of hat you would see most often in the street. But still! And my point is, it's kinda funny when you think about it, that the garment you have been wearing during the video doesn't feel outlandish at all for me; but it does for you. Just like you-or anyone else actually-have your culture, and what I consider as foreign and exceptional… may look normal and unexceptional for you. Idk, just a though watching this video. Your accent is very good, keep it up! Much love from an english/german student from Northern France :)
I love this perspective! Thank you for sharing it. What's funny is that a lot of what I did in the video, I don't think is outlandish either haha. I wore my own clothes except for the beret which I had borrowed from a friend. I guess it was more about just leaning into my life in more of a French way, and laughing at myself along the way. I'm still learning French and I hope to someday get the chance visit your country! :)
