Today I return to check out the latest update by FlipSwitch games for their upcoming War of the Worlds game! This update features never before seen tripod gameplay and it looks incredible!

This game is based upon the 2005 Stephen Spielberg movie The War of the Worlds, Starring Tom Cruise. This film is based upon the Novel by H.G Wells and I have to say this is probably the best we're ever going to get in terms of a game adaption of the film. Today we take a look at the early gameplay footage.

Honestly, I love the way raf has done with the game. The visuals, the mechanics, and everything else in it is just put together so perfectly.
Yes and it's all coming together so well, genuinely looks like a quality game with barely any issues, at least as far as we can see. Raf will only show us the best footage of course! :D

You can identify the type of tripod based on the head cap shown from the first person perspective at 3:06, which represents one type, while at 14:57, another type is showcased.
(I came up with this fix on voids reaction video.)
Here's a fix to the player being able to deploy both tentacle and heatrays, and survivors being able to tell that the tripod is a player.
This would be quick and easy; Make it where the tripod can only have either the tentacles or heatrays deployed, instead of both.
If you would want some kind of reason to this, you could say that having both deployed would put a dangerous strain on the tripods source of power. (That is most likely some kind of reactor or generator.)
I believe that the heatrays are very power expensive on the tripod, so it would make a lot of sense that the normal ones can't use something else. This makes more sense because of the fact that the tripods always have a shield up, which should also be very power costly.
The Uperpod would be the one with a power source with a capacity that is big enough to run both tools at the same time. (This would make sense since the uberpod looks like it is a heavy duty version of the normal one.)
I think that the aliens solved that problem by upping the size of the tripod, into the uberpod so they can have more room to make separate generators for the heatrays.
This might be disapproved by the fact that the aliens don't use much of the extra hood space on the uberpod. This could mean that the uberpod is just a sign of superiority among other pods. This could also be debunked by the fact that we see three ubers working as a squad in the hill scene, instead of one uber and two normals.
21:30 There are actually only 2 variants in the movie, the Uber and Normal tripods, the normal Tripods have the ability to change there mode whenever needed. Within the movie at the ferry scene you can see tripods beaming the city, those also have there tentacles lowered tho (its hard to see but they are there).
The same can also be seen later on once they swam onto land after the camera turned to the hill with running people (those tripods are NOT uberpods)
That’s what I was referring to in the video as for a long time I thought there was 3 variants but I found out recently that I was wrong
This reminds me of the Roblox War of the Worlds Survival Game but the difference is that there are cooldowns in the heat rays
The tripod on one side of the map using both heat rays and tentacles is easily identifiable as a player. As is the tripod playing carameldancing rapidly approaching from the other side of the map.
It'd be nice when you find people in houses you can deploy aliens to go inside
I wouldn't be shocked if that's what feature gets worked on next honestly
On the ferry scene when they look at the hill and the other 3 tripods are exterminating humans there, you can see i think 2 or 1 has their tentacles and heatrays deployed so i would say yes, AI should be able to have both deployed
I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case for multiplayer, but I think singleplayer you should be able to choose between having just harvesters/fighters, or having them using combined sets of equipment
@@Uberkit They could use them to get humans out of cover and destroy/fling vehicles and houses humans are in or possibly fleed there.
I am actually quiet happy that we get to play as good guys now.

I do have to say, I wish Paramount would do a 'sidequel' to the 2005 WOTW. Set it in England (as in the book) at the same time as the 2005 version and use the book elements more. Like the black smoke gas and having a big naval battle with the Thunderchild warship sacrificing itself to save refugees. (By ramming a tripod in the sea.) Sigh if only.

@@Uberkit Yeah I'd have the salt sea water interfering with the Tripods shields and that would enable the Thunderchild to get into a slugging match with the tripods with its guns. It would lose bravely not before taking several of them out allowing the refugees to escape.

I've always been of the opinion that every Tripod is equipped with/capable of using Heat Rays, and it appears Raf believes so as well. The first time we see a Tripod it deploys Heat Rays that are kind of tucked away inside the hood, so even if we don't visually see a specific Tripod's Heat Rays, that doesn't necessarily mean that it doesn't have any.
I've made similar comments in other videos discussing my reasoning more in-depth, but to sum it up, most of my reasoning boils down to one scene in particular. In the aftermath of the Ferry scene, when Ray, Robbie and Rachel are on a hill overlooking the countryside and we see a bunch of Tripods scooping people up, there are a few Tripods (regular, bog-standard Tripods, not Uberpods) that are seen actively grabbing people with the tentacles and _also_ firing their Heat Rays at the same time.
I just don't believe that having the cages and having Heat Rays are mutually exclusive, there's nothing about the design of the so-called "Harvester Tripod" that would prohibit the use of Heat Rays, and the "Warrior/Fighter Tripod" still has plenty of space to attach the cages at a later time, after they've emerged from their spot underground (another pet theory of mine to explain why some have cages and some don't). Who's to say they don't climb out of a long-buried Cylinder-style drop pod which houses a single Tripod and additional supplies, such as a few cages that they can attach using their tentacles? This could also explain why, in the Intersection scene, we see the ground _rotating_ before the Tripod emerges, as if the Cylinder's top/lid/cap is _unscrewing_ beneath the Earth, very similar to the book's description (but underground).
I think your idea of having separate AI-controlled Harvester and Warrior Tripods makes sense, to an extent. I think the first Tripods to rise should be primarily focused on extermination, whereas later on we could see more harvesting-focused Tripods, but again, even the harvesting-focused Tripods could still have the capability to utilize Heat Rays, there could simply be some programming stating they'd prioritize harvesting unless engaged in a firefight or something like that.
Real-life military structure often reflects something similar, in an invasion you'd send a main fighting force to clear a path, then additional units moving behind the fighting force would do things like managing POWs or patrolling occupied areas to make sure there aren't any hostile forces remaining. Also, just because their main focus isn't to fight, doesn't necessarily mean that they're unarmed or incapable of combat. Most units deployed to combat zones carry some form of weapon, be it a rifle, a sidearm, or a scalpel.
*TL;DR, the 2005 film shows regular Tripods using tentacles to put people in cages while using Heat Rays simultaneously. Every Tripod is likely equipped with Heat Rays, regardless of if it has cages or not. Also, the Tripods might emerge from long-buried Cylinder-style drop pods which also contain the cages for them to attach using their tentacles.*

I was expecting a new update, as they seem to be consistently every 3 months. This looks amazing!
I don't need or even want 'Unreal engine graphics', i think what he has done works well, especially with a good overall atmosphere, which is very important. In terms of graphics, i just want good draw distance and minimal pop-in textures, but i imagine that will be fixed over time
Yeah hopefully they can sort that out and then you will forget it's even in unity
I love this game and I can't wait to try it out, I think a way to keep players engaged more could be adding a kind of building/base building or camp as a human either inside houses or out in the forest. Imagine having a group of friends camping and building to survive in an abandoned house

Yeah the backups look really good. I do believe we'll be able to choose between the movie design and the more book faithful design, but I could be wrong

So, Kit, you remember that bad War of the Worlds game? The one that I even told you not to worry about its sequel because it was just as bad. Well, I saw an article if you hadn't covered this already, that the dev is actually going to do a remaster of that game entirely for free... not that I expect it to really have any sort of attention because again it was a bad game trying to cash in on the War of the Worlds popularity, plus I wouldn't be surprised if it gets entirely overshadowed by this game.
Edit: however when it comes to Roblox, I would be more likely to talk down about anything on Roblox because more often than not the stuff that's there are stolen IPs being sold on that platform, there's literally a few games that 8-Bit Ryan and some other RUclipsrs played that are literally called Subnautica.
Then there's the TF2 copy that literally has a similar shop to that of the Mann Co store in TF2 and some of the items in that store aren't even renamed from their TF2 counterpart.

no but I think we can estimate the price to about $10-$35
I don't think it'll be too expensive, Raf wants people on low-end pcs to be able to run the game, and if those people don't have the money to spend thousands on a new gaming pc they aren't going to want to spend an outrageous amount of money on a single game, so I reckon it'll be a very affordable price
