I was watching a movie in a theater in 1993. The soundtrack was mostly the same woman-I totally forgot about the movie. I just wanted to know who was singing. It was Nina Simone. I still love her music. She studied classical piano but the only job she could get was playing in a bar. The owner told her she had to sing too. The rest is history. I’m still a BIG fan. Loved your reaction!
@ the movie was Point of No Return 1993. Nina Simone sang: Feeling Good Wild is the Wind Black is the Color of My True Love’s Hair, Here Comes the Sun, and I Want a Little Sugar in My Bowl Nina was a classically trained pianist! Nina’s daughter Lisa Simone is a great singer too
The song was from a 1964 musical The Roar of the Greasepaint - The Smell of the Crowd, where it's sung by a character named "The Negro" as he defeats two grifters who have been praying on him.
hi michael, hope you're good. i love this song and nina simone. she was just so unique and could sing just about anything, she was AWESOME. BONNIE TYLER - TOTAL ECLIPSE OF THE HEART. really good reaction to this one, thank you. sorry about the caps i'm not shouting at you ok. lol. my baby just cares for me - nina simone probably her next best known to this one.
Most definitely Blusey sound! Glad you found her Michael. She did not have the recognition & popularity of the Beatles, Tony Bennett, etc. Great sound. Thank you Michael!
Wow! I was just listening to this very song on my way to Tipperary yesterday! ❤❤❤ Excellent! Gorgeous! And the lyrics are just beautiful! I saw Dimash sing this in a duet when he was very young. The little girl he was singing with had most of the song. She. Was a firecracker! Powerful voice!
She isa legend ❤. Personally I think this modern video is distracting, and more lighthearted than Nina. The song is from 1965. Nina was a great pianist (jazz, blues, classic and more) and a civil rights activist. She died 20 years ago.
Nina had a really hard life and was a big campaigner for social justice despite, or maybe because of, her own mental health issues (some of which I share). My favourite song of hers, and there are plenty to choose from, is probably "Stars/Feelings", in which Nina, always a rebellious concert performer, takes a Janis Ian song, gives it her own twist, apparently improvising on the spot to a live audience, and segues into the song considered the most meaningless song ever written. This piece probably illustrates depression better than any other song I've ever heard, not necessarily in the lyrics, but in the performance. You absolutely must check it out. Nina Simone is LEGEND! ❤
She also played incredible jazz piano. So many classics. She did an unbelievable cover of George Harrison's song "Isn't It A Pity" worth hearing.

An all-time icon & giant. Classically trained pianist, transcendent vocalist & writer. Words fail.

Her voice runs through your veins, what a voice! I've been a fan for years. No one is, was, or ever will be like her!

Just beautiful.. Carly Rose Soneclar covered this on American Idol.. did a great job despite being really young
Nina was in a class of her own. Check out "I Loves You Porgy" and "Mississippi Goddam"...two of her best.
If someone doesn't know Nina Simone, but the hole football world knows the most famous song from her.
"U'll never walk alone"
This chick sadly died in 2003 at the age of 70, she has great songs, try some more : "Ain't Got No, I Got Life" or "My Baby Just Cares for Me"
She sound like JJ moma singing on Goodtime😮😂

This woman is phenomenal
Jazz, soul, blues and by the way that piano was all Nina
They used to call Nina Simone the "High Priestess of Soul"

Check out “Blues for Mama” and “Wild as the Wind”. Heart wrenchingly beautiful
Angelina Jordan has covered this when she was10, live on stage. Amazing. Love this singer. Wish she was still alive
She’s the first person to record this. It’s her song
PLEASE TELL ME ABOUT THE MAYONAISE JAR BEHIND YOU!! I ask you every time I watch one of your videos! Much thanks - I just gotta know!
