This is a fantastic all-around lens, following Nikkor tradition. It's extra reach requires the larger barrel than its 24-70 sibling It's not marketed as a cine lens, and as such, its focus breathing is minimal. It also has a function ring that can be configured as a non-click aperture control. For a wider, faster lens, there are so many third party that are lightweight and inexpensive.
I really like it! I felt like it had more focus breathing than the 17-28mm when I tested that one. Maybe there’s a better way to test that than just a visual of going between focus points that are drastically separated by distance like I used in this review?
I find it to be a bit overpriced, the 24-200 ends up being quite similar but it costs 35/40% less on the second hand market. The 200S is probably 15% better at 24MP, probably 25% at 45MP So if you are shooting 24MP, Its simply not that much of an upgrade vs the cheaper 200... It comes down to trading stops for reach But then again, you will rarely ever shoot at less than F4 outdoors...
I bundled that with my Z6II when I changed ecosystems in Dec 2022. It now stays on my Zf most of the time. It is a fantastic lens!!
Nice! What do you typically keep on the Z6II?
You didn’t tell which lens though.
Thanks for this review. It's good to see one that is backed up by lots of real world use.
Glad it was helpful!

Nice review my favorite Nikon z lens. It can do everything. Ultimate travel lens if you still want S line quality photos.
Totally agree! I love it too.
Great lens. Paired with the 14-24 is a bit heavy for lugging up hills and mountains but it is too hard to choose between them so I take both.
I’m with you on that too. It definitely makes my backpack heavier for travel, but I love them both.
