Hi Adrian, a great video, buddy! When it comes down to traveling, I tend more and more to think about weight compared with a higher focal range over image quality, I have to say. These are two great lenses. I think, as a landscape photographer, I would maybe go for the 24-120 f/4 if I were a Nikon user. But of course, if portrait shots come into the game a faster lens is an advantage.
Thank you for the video. Have a great weekend,
    Christian

Another great comparison Adrian! I dont think you can go wrong with either of these lenses, but they definitely have different strengths for different types of photography. Personally, I'm a big fan of the Tamron lenses and it blows my mind that the bigger lens manufacturers still charge almost double for their lenses. I think I've said it before, but I will never buy another Sony lens again. Great stuff as always mate, have a great weekend down there!

Thank you. truly appreciate your honestly and diligence. I have the 24-200 and 40/2, both of which are good for what they do. But in my DSLR days I had the Nikon 28-70/2.8 and while I had other glass, that was the one that gave me the look I was after. As such it was on my camera 24/7. I am wondering if this Tamron might be the equivalent.

It's a hard but easy choice what's your lens selection and what are your needs. I have the 70-200mm F2.8 Nikon lens.
But I need 28-75 F2.8 for wedding and certain low light needs while traveling that the 24 120 can not match. If it were all landscape that you need this is it, but if you need more versatility other than landscape the Tamron 28-75mm F2.8 G2 is the choice to make.
It's really hard to have an all in one do it all lens.

  • @dawei566

A very fair review on both lenses. I think 28-75 mm is perfect for traveling because it's lightweight. Depending on which season you travel, especially during winter with your winter wear and all those gear, you gonna carry along. ✌️ 😃

Hi Adrian, thank you so much for your test! I am now 100% sure that the Tamron fits my needs.
For landscape lovers, I guess Tamron is currently working on a Z-mount version of their 70-180mm f/2.8 G2… Which could be very complementary to this 28-75mm Tamron lens. 😊

All great points to consider. I guess a majority of people would be doing the people, food, places thing while they travel, unless they are specifically traveling for landscape photography. So the Tamron may be the popular choice. Great comparison, food for thought.

For travelling, I would definitely choose the Nikon 24120. With nearly the same sharpness and size, focal length is a more important factor to consider than aperture.
That extra 75 to 120 length would be very useful, not to mention the wider length as well.
Honestly, when travelling, I mostly shoot landscapes or some street photography, and normally I won’t shoot with a wide open aperture like 2.8, but most likely 5.6 up to 8. If you really need the wide aperture, you can always bring a light prime lens such as 50 1.8 to get you cover for low light situations.
The 24120 wins in terms of versatility.

Good comparison. To my mind for travel, I need flexibility as I don't know what I'm going to run into. So, having the option of going wider and longer with a single lens is more valuable. I couldn't give up the Z 24-120mm. Beyond this lens I'll pack the 14-30 and the Tammy 70-300. cheers..

Thank you for another great video.Between this 2 lenses the choice is not easy... For me it is important to travel light but reach can bring such goodness to our pictures... As a more introvert and discrete person to have a lens with good reach as becoming more important to me, but besides this particular characteristics of mine, I do appreciate the capacity to capture more natural moments that a lens with longer reach can provide us. So... I think the Tamron can also pair very well with the Nikon Z 24-200mm. Covers the wider end, provides more reach and it`s a cheaper lens without compromising to much on quality. For all the rest you have the Tamron and eventually one of the Z primes...

I used the 24-120mm f4 for travel to Europe this past autumn, and it was phenomenal. I brought along the tiny 26mm f2.8 Z and 50mm f1.8, for the really low light stuff, still keeping the overall kit limited. I think I would miss the 24mm end. What I really want is the Tamron 70-180 f2.8 G2 version to come out in the Z mount. My typical kit is 14-30 f4, 24-120mm f4, 100-400 f4.5-5.6 Z lenses, but I would love to swap out a light zoom option for when I get on a plane! Then again, using a Z7ii, on vacation, I often just went to dx crop and used the 120mm end as 180mm. But…..dx on 180mm is 270 equivalent, sooooo….yeah, bring on the 70-180 G2!

Adrian, nice comparison and good job at it. For me I like the Tamron better for two reasons:
    1. The F2.8 I think will give a better Bokeh.
    2. The closer focusing distance.
Interested in what the comments say….

Thanks so much for watching my friend. Yes the Tamron is better on the wide end, but in the video comparison section the Nikon is closer on the long end. Just didn't want to mention it twice. Both are great, but the Tamron I think has more diversity. I love my Nikon 24-120mm, it's enough for my landscape. But I will be buying the Tamron eventually for the other stuff I mentioned. Have a great weekend, take care 🙏

Decisions, decisions, eh? I feel a bit of a kindred spirit (photo-wise) with you, Adrian. When I’m traveling, it’s often to photograph wildlife and I’m typically burdened with big glass. But having just got a Z8 in the last few months, I did add the 100-400 (my only Z lens so far) which is brilliant but I also have my older 24-120 f4 (F-mount) which still sees lots of use via the FTZ adapter. I have two older Tamron lenses, both of which are fantastic. I’m probably not quite there yet for my next lens, though the 24-120S Nikon would be tempting.

I can't believe some of the lame comments where people are carrying on about how the Nikon can get closer on the long end than the Tamron, when you showed that in the video focal length comparison section. As well as the 120mm Crop with the Z7 ii which gives a 180mm, this saves me from buying a 70-180 (200) and waiting for a more affordable 100-400.
