An amazing review of this type of bonsai. I would love to hear more about flower color based pruning to eventually get the right balance of the multi colored trees. Likewise propagation and how branch selection plays into this. Finally a formal explanation on the best exposed root development set up would be super.
    Thank you,
    Mats H

Oh no I may have inappropriately touched the roots on mine! Great video, thanks! Looking forward to the next ones and subbed! Especially happy to hear not to remove the flowers every year.

Do you mean with subtitles ? If so you can turn auto generated subtitles on, works great

Thoroughly enjoyed that and relevant to me as my first Spring with my hikari no Tsukasa azalea. Took my flowers off and gave it a hedge style prune on Sunday under the guidance of a quality local bonsai chap who echoed everything you said
    👍

Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge ! I am reading a book on Satsuki which refers to a ConVEX cutter.Personally I have never heard of this tool, and our local supplier who imports from Japan "bonsaitree pty ltd"says it does not exist!Iwould appreciate your comments.

I guess you can say that the blades on a concave cutter are actually convex, but the wound they leave is concave...
Is the book translated or written by a non native speaker?

@@saruyamabonsai It's mentioned in the Callaham book, the tool does exist but it's not known in the west. Masakuni carries it under the reference MAS-0061 for the large carbon steel version (I think it's MAS-0161 for the small carbon steel, MAS-8061 for the large stainless, MAS-8161 for the small stainless). The idea is that the blade leaves a cut that is flush to the surrounding bark and follows the curve of the trunk. Surprisingly (/sarcasm) the tool isn't on the Masakuni website but is found on other websites (like yamataya.com).

I just received a bonsai which the previous owners kept forgetting to water. The leaves are dry and falling but not all the way yet. I submerged the whole pot in water due to the dryness but now the mulch is damp. How do I revive this plant. So beautiful and hoping to save this.

Please do not keep being distracted by messages on your monitor. It throws you and the viewer off track when you try and talk and read at the same time.

I do try, but there are often technical issues that I wouldn’t have any awareness of without seeing the chat.

If you want a documentary then watch a documentary. This is a Livestream and it's a battle to keep them running. The information is still important and in my opinion delivered really well considering there's no script or retakes.
