    There were so many private problems during that season and there was a lack of time. The commentator said it - they were not ready. Nevertheless, it doesn't matter if they only came second here, they will always be remembered as an exception, something that hasn't happened again until today.

    The choreography IS genius. I remember watching this back in 92 and feeling they had been done but unfortunately leg lines don’t always match which is not pretty & there were one or two small but obvious mistakes. Love the programme though

    I always thought it a shame that they didn't represent Canada, but at the time they felt they were getting overlooked by Skate Canada (CFSA then) so they chose to represent France Some of the technical skating is not as precise as perhaps the Russians, but what Paul and Isabelle had was a youthful, refreshing presence. This music was perfect for them.

      They did the right thing. It's also a gutsy move. The tennis champion Mary Pierce did the exact same thing, and she faced the same scenario and reason for moving to France. It's also such a coincidence that it's also Pierce's mother who is the French one!

  • @mgpiety

    Wow, one of the all-time coolest ice dances. I wish Virtue and Moir would take a stab at this (meaning keep the basic choreography by Dean but put their own spin on it).

    all three teams had wonderful, memorable free dances that still look current now in 2015. however, d&d were the least polished. they should have finished 3rd, although i love them and this program!

    I am not sure what the uproar was about. clearly the French were not as polished nor did they have the emotional power of Klimova and Ponomorenko - it was amazing it was this close. The French suffered maybe because of some personal issues but roughness, lack of finish and emotonal connection and drama. Also, Isabelle is not as strong as Paul. I would have had easily but both Russian teams ahead. (Or Unified)

    • @grantnoroyan4083

      exactly right some good choreography nice moves but messy sloppy and klimova was elegant and polished

    • @josieshy2376

      Lack of emotional connection? They surely had a close emotional connection to each other, which is evident in any of their performances.

    Ils ont ete avertis de suivre le programme sans depasser les normes. Par contre, les autres patineurs s'en donnait a coeur joie d'ignorer les regles. La note donnee du Canada en est l'exemple. Le Canada les a boudes parce qu'ils ont eut la chance de representer la France. Et vive la double nationalite.

    Given the circumstances, they did an incredible job. Bronze-worthy, though, compared with the breathtaking quality of usaova/zhulin's four seasons. An awesome dance, though, that still looks fresh now, 21 years later

    I think she (Isabelle) also partly married Dean hoping it would help her career, give her some plus points with the judges. As far as I can remember, they were divorced pretty quickly after Albertville...

    • @nondescriptnyc
      @nondescriptnyc 3 года назад +2

      That divorce came almost instantaneously…to the point some speculated that they had already broken up after the flop earlier that season.

    • @victoriagill3337
      @victoriagill3337 3 года назад +2

      I think Chris married Isabelle in a panic after Jayne married Phil Christensen, worrying he would be alone. In reality he still had a lot of professional ambitions which sadly didn’t match Isabelle’s and neither of them could compromise.

    Russians work hard to reach technical perfection but their artistry is kind of old school classic so what you get is a great mechanical performance but somehow boring. But then what do you do with a pair of revolutionaries performing in a world ruled by conservatives?
    Tradition often becomes stagnation, This pair showed the world that creativity should be the new tradition and they changed their sport for the better. This is the only sport where I want the artist to surpass the athlete!
