They know that his matches are very physical, so they have to take a choice based on what they see. Players that are usually serve bots can easily go through points much quicker. You're right about the RG semi-final against. Rafa took a lot of time. But those were exceptional humid circumstances (hot and stormy outside, roof closed). The claycourt became because of that muddy and almost unplayable (1st set 1 1/2 hours), which (partly) caused Zverev's injury. The referee during that game was right not to give warnings.
