- We were lucky enough to have Nuno come do an in-store Q&A. He was very generous. He even stuck around to sign a bunch of autographs at the end. A special shout out to Ed Lim of Six-String Samurai Gear Reviews who got to ask Nuno and question. That happens at 13:20.

Ofcourse nuno
It's kind of cool that the young generations forever will always be a fan of these guitar gods from the 80s. Because after the 80-90s, not many have done what these guys done.
What a lovely, funny, warm, down to earth guy.
Lol. Far from it. Very cocky and patronizing personality
And don’t forget Sexy
I'm a Boston kid. I grew up with his stuff and dwezzil zappa.no matter how stoned he is.hes one the greats
Nuno is really an awesome guitar player and reaches out seriously w/ his fans, he came here at the philippines before he was such really nice even though he looks really tired, but still he was very approachable, very down to earth.
God I love Nuno. Getting to ask him that question and later meeting the band was one of the biggest highlights of Tokyo for me #myhero
hey man, did you know that Brian collaborated with Extreme on a cover of Love of My Life back in the early 90s? I wonder if the guys ever met Freddie
lvl99ultrathuglvl99ultrathug Well they probably wouldn't have met him when they did that cover, but I'm sure their paths crossed before then. Seems like the members of Queen and Extreme have always had a great friendship. Interesting when you watch some of the old B&W footage shot when Extreme were were writing III Sides; they play a few Queen tunes whilst playing around, Gary was obviously a big Freddie fan too. You can hear FM 'stylings' in his vocals too on occasion, especially with their live sets.
*Extremely* cool, haha. For such a legend he sure is friendly and down to earth, really seems nice.
This is such a great interview both from the questions asked to Nuno's responses. Brilliant. Thank you for posting this.
I always loved nuno, how he played n sing and actually he sings really well too.he is really humble and honest guy...all the best you nuno...
Gosh, Nono is so nice, love his stories and what a big fan he is of others. He seems truly humble and he's funny too. He would be amazing even if he wasn't such a brilliant guitarist. ❤
Nuno seems to be such a down to earth guy, in addition to being an awesome guitar player. Lovely interview at a lovely place! Was hoping he talked about the N4 a little more in depth as I'm trying to find out the exact fretwire size for my beloved 1994 padauk... Anyway, good job Ishibashi! Domo!
+TinManSixtySix As I am the one who put this video together, I sincerely thank you for your comment. It's greatly appreciated.
In case you haven't seen it yet, here is another video Nuno and I did one on one at Soundcheck later that same day. I hope you enjoy it too: ruclips.net/video/oDArLASETl0/видео.html
Cheers,
Jason
Thanks for replying, Jason! Both videos are great. Must have been a lot of fun to make. Great job, keep it up, rock on! Martin
It was indeed. Nuno was very open, kind and a hell of a lot of fun to work with.
As nuno speaks slower than usual, i can easily imagine he is really a gentleman and kind to his fans, also audience.
Thank you, ありがとうヌーノ、やっぱ最高にカッコいいよ。
He was very kind to me, that's for sure. We really got along well on that day. It was awesome.
LOVE THIS GUY
hail NUNO you're the best!
Sounds like a great guy! Very grounded and humble! Great guitar player obviously!
Nuno and Extreme, one of the most underrated rock group.
I play a Nuno Gtr because is a great REAL and organic guitar, I love the simplicity of it, the way it looks and feels and how each time you hit or pick a string you feel it in your body and fingers, but also Nuno is a badass guitar player and log how he plays he is one of the greatest guitar players and really that guitars looks so made for Nuno...
What a fantastic, insightful video. Thank you for taking the time to put this all together. Regards from NZ, kia kaha
Mini Forklift Ⓥ You're very welcome. Thank YOU very much for appreciating it because this one actually did take some time to put together.
Cheers, Jason (the bald Aussie guy who works at the store).
Nuno is such a cool Fn guy. He's the only man that can get away with carrying a man purse and look cool doing it. He's jus a reg dude...... with a rippin natural ability on the guitar. Def inspiration for me growing up.
I've been to Ishibashi a few times, amazing place, insane number of guitars and the staff is amazing
Love it,.. !
Lol..nobody would ever play it..boy you were wrong nuno..I was working for Guitar center Indianapolis and a guy brought in a N4 to trade in..aftervthat day I got rid of all my Ibanez, Jackson's, esp,Gibson..etc...lol..I went on a mad hunt for all N series guitars..15 years later I have 12 N2's,2 N3's,1 N24 and now a 2006 N4..unfortunately times got hard and 2 weeks ago sold my N4 to someone in Canada..biggest mistake I ever made..my hearts friggin broken..thanks for bringing your guitars to the world..
Wow, this is only a day after my birthday. So happy :D
Happy Birthday to you!!!
What a great guy!
Today is his birthday
tyvm for uploading this vid FINALLY. I was waiting for ages ya know.
oh btw I'm your customer who bought the signed vintage 5 days after this event :p
Sorry it took soooooo long. I had the editing finished within a couple of weeks. Our head office needed to get all of the official approvals plus doing the Japanese subtitles for the Japanese version of the video. I'm happy you enjoyed it.
A true musician and a great guitar he put out way back when! one endorsement for Nuno over his entire career!
The Padauk is the best sounding one out of the bunch. That wood just seems to be so deep sounding especially in both pickup position.
Thanks for the great instrument Nuno...and in a LEFTY model to boot!
Should you ever get the chance to play an N4 made out of Korina Skibble5150 I think you'll be blown away. It's an amazing tone. I'm taking nothing away from the Padauk, just letting you know about the Korina.
Cheers,
Jason
I can't. I am a lefty. I was fortunate enough to get a Padauk N4 and an Alder one. I can't push my luck too much! LOL.
I've never seen an N4 in a lefty. Well done of you to get 2 of them.
Great interview and Nuno never ages. 😃
Sure is a LOT of nice guitars in that room.... cool Nuno posters as well.
Jason you killed it on this.
Excellent job!
Nuno is quite the character...haha
Always been a fan of his and Extreme.
Again though...great editing and overall production.
Thank you Darryl. It's very much appreciated that you like my work.
If you enjoy my editing, you'll love the Marco Minnemann DW Drums promo I just did. Here it is... ruclips.net/video/aQu8M-aV82s/видео.html
Nuno is very cool guy...
Today is his birthday
@@lorettasearcy1471 Happy birthday to Nuno
I love this shop. Bought my mustang there :)
Nice. Thanks John Hawthorn ;-)
There's something about these Washburn N4 guitars. I like Washburn guitars and glad Nuno & Paul Stanley play them.
Nuno looks just like he did in the 80s, that's crazy considering his contemporaries are either fat and bald or both, or they turned into country musicians. Very underrated guitar master.
Jc333 He's barely changed a bit! He must have good genes!
bendygirl Or he`s a vampire.
He's too tanned to be a vampire. Plus he drinks water and eats Snickers bars. Maybe he sold his soul to the devil, ya know like in the novel 'Dorian Grey' by Oscar Wilde? Can't see a good Catholic boy doing that though...so it still remains a mystery...
bendygirl Indeed.
+bendygirl Greatest book ever (:
NUNOOOOI I LOVE YOU VERY MUCHHHHH IM CRYING 😭
Nuno kicked ass in gen ax
Nuno IS GOD !!!!!
Amazing!!!! Fucking Nuno Numero Uno!!
Ele estava tão lindo aí
Talk about a guitar store
I'd get one of those PRSs in the back there
You and me both. Most of them were Private Stock as well.
And you made one
How in the balls name can 12 people not like this?
👏👏👏👏
..(10:00)--> is this Water..lol.. Never know, could be "Saké" !
Seems like a down-to-earth guy. Not big into the guitar hero worship BS. Interesting interview. Arigato gozaimashita.
If they did something like this in my city, GC would actually have to bring in guitars!😂
Today is my birthday
I meant today is Nunos birthday
Wow, a kiwi Extreme and Queen fan. I didn't think such a thing was possible. I wonder if he's written to Brian about doing a song with Nuno. Brian's not getting any younger. Anyway rock on, brother!
In fact, if you check Nuno's Facebook page you'll see that he's been playing some gigs with Kings of Chaos and hanging out with Brian last week.
And re: Wow, a kiwi Extreme and Queen fan. I didn't think such a thing was possible... That's a bit harsh, but funny none the less.
Haha why can't Kiwis like Extreme and Queen, lvl99ultrathug ? :D
EVERYONE should like Extreme & Queen!!
Six-String Samurai Gear Reviews I guess my idea of NZ musical tastes was based on the single Kiwi I've encountered in all my travels of the internets. He's the type of dude who reads pitchfork, thinks Queen is trash, probably thinks even worse of Extreme. Because of him I thought you guys were all hipsters. But I'm so glad there's at least one Extreme fan in NZ!
lvl99ultrathug Don't forget, there are three sides to every story ;)
Running out of concept tour :D Still great (Y)
That's a bit harsh. I didn't (and never do) care if there is a concept for any tour. Just to get to see fantastic bands like Extreme live is more than fantastic enough on its own.
Ishibashi Music English RUclips Channel Nuno is enough I do not even need extreme
Actually Sandy, that's something I don't totally agree with. I've been an Extreme fan since 1990 and I really think it's within the band that Nuno shines his brightest. The way that him, Gary & Pat sing together (especially live) to the level that they do is pretty rare these days. As a unit Extreme really has their shit together and always have. I saw them in 1993, twice in 2012 & twice again on this last tour in June 2014. I also saw Nuno at the Guitar Wars show in Osaka in 2003 & with Drama gods in roughly 2007/2008. As great as those last two shows I mentioned were, Nuno with Extreme is just a perfect fit.
Well that's my feelings on the subject anyway.
How much is that N4 Padauk??? Is it still there???
hi! if someone finds the katy perry song they played, PLEASE tell mee ☺☺
What is that guitar that he signs at the end? It's gorgeous!
***** : It's a Custom painted Washburn P4 like the one in the link below. As Nuno says in the video around 17:25, his original one was stolen. We had this one made specially as a tribute.
store.ishibashi.co.jp/ec/img/53/sub_19-3125383001_l.jpg
8-) Post !!!
Thanks for that. As the guy who made, filmed all of the GoPro footage including the intro & edited this video I thank you very much.
Cheers,
Jason
Please to the 10 year ago video. allow subtitles.
its very very strange that both dime bag and Nuno uses Washburn as well as bill Lawrence
I'm the same way when it comes to pickups and effects, etc. I have NO clue about any of that stuff and very little interest.
If the guitar feels nice and the amp sounds good, I only need a handful of sounds and I'm golden. Something clean and something a bit more dirty.
All that space noise shit is fun to play around with, but there's no end to it! There's always some new gadget or whatever...
Yup, all the extra stuff probably couldn't even hear it with all the other noises coming out of the other band members lol. There's a limit to tweaking one's sound.
Your first one right
Isn't koa and korina the same wood??
the girl translator was so gorgeous
I think so too...she is cute
May I get the name of the journalist please :D ?
12kirkhinrich12 : Please message me on Facebook about that. This is not the place to talk about things like that: facebook.com/IshibashiMusicJason
Cheers!
He looks really jetlagged.
His solo album Shizopeania (spelling) is incredible
And that's why I LOVE Google that can help you to search things like that: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schizophonic_(Nuno_Bettencourt_album)
Hehehehe!!!

Ishibashi Music English RUclips Channel
То
When Nuno said "Bill Lawrence", did he mean Bill Lawrence USA or the original Bill & Becky's Bill Lawrence?
To the best of my knowledge there is only the one Bill Lawrence who is/was famous for making pickups.
Ishibashi Music English RUclips Channel
Well at least there are two manufacturers claiming they're the real deal, and I heard there were lawsuit against each other.
1. wildepickups.com
2. billlawrenceusa.com
I know Bill (R.I.P.) & Becky (wildepickups) ones are the original L500 series, but Washburn also use "Bill Lawrence USA" pickups.
Perhaps. This is something I have no knowledge about. From what Nuno said I can only guess that would be the original Bill Lawrence, but once again that's just my guess.
his original N4 was with the original Bill Lawrence pickups, the newer production ones are with BL USA i think
well, now that i've listened to what he said i think they have the original ones
That's a pretty little purse Nuno's carrying.I bet it's full of his nail polish!Haha!Just jokes but he's gotta lose the nail polish.Other then that,he's a god!
***** Nuno doesn't have to do anything other than what Nuno wants to do because he's NUNO and he's awesome!!!! ;-)
Stoned as always lol!
stratmanuk I know he seems like that, but I hung out with him for hours & hours and not once did I see him do anything. I think it's just the way he is. On top of that, he had just woken up about an hour before doing this.
He's just a chill guy
Д. Б.
What kind of wood do you like? It s great that guitar are made of wood! Ahhahaha ha he s great he doesn t give a shit... That s the secret... Just pick up a guitar and play
Nuno mentioned his equipment getting stolen,,...sounds like it was obviously somebody who knew him and where the equipment was stored!! thats really sucks, I too had my photography equipment stolen..close to 20k!! gone!! bastards!!
cute translator girl. I'm guessing she's mixed blood japanese?
I was in a band that rehearsed in the same place he said he was sleeping in in Boston. Its torn down now. Rumor had it that he was an asshole. I never picked up on it.
I've heard stories about that Mike. It's funny you were there at that time. I hear he was already an amazing player by then. Sure Nuno is pretty intense at times, but who isn't when they are busy and really good at something. I think to be as exceptional as he is at what he does it requires a certain level of not giving a crap about every little thing around you. Some people take that as arrogance. I know you weren't saying anything negative about him there, but some people do. That's their problem. He's always been good to me.
Cheers, Jason
Yeah man it was called the music complex. On the border or Charlestown and Somerville. Boston burroughs. I wasn't there when he was actually living in there but him and Extreme never left their roots. They kept that jam space. He had his fame already during my time there. We would see him buying chips and drinks at the vending machine in there. He was very private. Very quiet. Always said hi to me though. Everyone knew when he was in the building. His sound would ring throughout the place. I don't know where the asshole stuff stemmed from. But other bands, like the Boston Brats, and all the security in the building would always say that about him. I was a young shy kid in a metal band. Maybe I was just naive at that age. But you gotta expect that private cut throat attitude from a guy like him. Nothing like waking up hungover from a night of partying and hearing Nuno shredding on his guitar. I never had those ill feelings. I felt privileged.
Very cool story. Thanks for sharing that with me.
Cheers!
Hello. I think when Extreme first started breaking and getting big (when More Than Words was huge) he did have a bit of an ego for a while. I got that vibe from him in a few different interviews. One thing though, he was a pretty opinionated person and had a lot he wanted to say and he wanted to talk about more than what size strings he uses and it sometimes came off as arrogant.
When the success didn't last he was humbled pretty quickly. These days he seems very friendly. I have watched him on podcasts with people nobody has ever heard of and he'll stay on and enthusiastically talk with them for hours.
One thing, he has a pretty dry sense of humor that some people may not get. I think he is really funny. One thing that is undeniable is that he kicks all kinds off ass on guitar. He is probably the last of the great guitar gods that used to wander the plains in much greater numbers. I'd feel pretty darn good about putting him up against anybody. Especially anybody from the last 30 years.
I saw Nuno play with Extreme the first year he played with them in Boston Ma, Pat Badger wasn't in the band yet Nuno may have been 19 years old spring of '86. He was as good then as he is now. One of the best. There was less than a 100 people in the audience mostly 80s hot babes and musicians on Tuesdays "Heavy Metal Night". Easily one of the best musicians ever. Even way back then.
Amazing talent, but stoned for sure!
I've been through this with a few other people too. He wasn't stoned. I was right there with him and hung out with him for many hours that day. It's just the way he is. He's a laid back kind of dude.
Cheers, Jason
ok my bad.
Dude looks perpetually stoned
There are exactly 3 people in that room who understand what the hell he's saying...
+teppolundgren: That's actually not true. There were at least 10 and the the girl on stage was translating for the crowd. Thanks to the magic of editing I removed the Japanese translations out because this video was put together so the outside world audiences could enjoy it to ;-)
