To raise goats , you need land , it requires more land than cows , one acre supports just 4-5 goats , and in Kerala there isnt enough land to support this field . You should never buy more than fifteen goats to start a farm , fifteen goats will become hundred in about 3.5 years may be 150-200 if conditions are good and good breeding practices are followed . You should understand the disease in goats and their treatment. Co5 , co5 , super napier or sudan grass , have a very low protein percentage and are only good for empty volume and they are toxic at certain times of the year or if not harvested at the correct time . Corn silage is a good alternative , but it should be supplemented with other fodder leaves . Concentrate should have necessary nutrients added to them and should have an average protein value of 25% . Goats are highly sensitive to changes in weather , diet , loss of kids , changes in goats around them and they are highly curious animals that need mental stimulation to thrive , hence the need for a place to roam and graze . Paddy fields or watter logged fielda cannot support the necessary food for goats , and because of this goat farming on a large scale is not feasible. Another reason is the the constant influx of buffalo calves and cows into the state , these carry drug resistant aggressive parasites and diseases , these parasites have infected the paddy fields . An other huge cause of failure is the export of goats from Kerala into Tamil Nadu, buyers enter the local Kerala markets and manipulate the prices ( in my opinion the sale of goats from Kerala to other states should be highly restricted) and famers are forced to sell at below market prices at 250-280 a kg , at these prices the farmer recovers nothing . Just remember it all comes down to availablity of land at the rate of 4-5 goats per acre , an the land has to be non water logged growing fodder leaves and not the grass variety. As said in the video backyard or hobby farmers can be successful. It takes close to ten years to establish a highly productive herd suitable for an area. Also you must remember, you can only make a profit if you are willing to kill your animal, if you sell it to butchers because you are afraid to kill something you loved , you will loose everything.
