- Come on... don't act like this is a surprise.
So since this is totally broken, it might be neat to give you guys some insight into how I approached sequence breaks with this mod. If you've tried looking for them, you might've noticed it is incredibly easy to find ways to skip parts of the level and get to places you're not "supposed" to. I never intentionally built sequence breaks into the stage, but there were plenty I found out about and decided not to fix. I developed the stage with the full understanding that there would be sequence breaks no matter what I do, and I think it's better/more fun to embrace that than to try desperately to stop breaks just to fail in the end. That's why I ended up building in a little bit of extra detail to "unreachable" sections - every area has the proper footstep noises, for example, even areas that you're never able to reach normally.
Now that doesn't mean I wasn't going to try to fix anything ever, but coming up with natural ways to fix some of these breaks just wasn't happening. For example, a minor sequence break that's pretty easy to do is on the second island; you can skip over to the left to get straight to the checkpoint. I could have blocked that by adding an invisible wall or something to the left; but I decided not to do that, because I wanted to make a level that felt open and gave you some freedom, rather than constantly trying to railroad you onto the intended paths. Adding arbitrary barriers would have hurt that; in fact, invisible walls were something I tried to avoid using on this stage as much as possible. Most of the breaks are a similar situation; I didn't fix them in instances where there wasn't really a good non-arbitrary way to do it (or where they were too cool to fix).
Making the level play well for regular players is a lot more important than making sure speedrunners can't break it, so that's what I focused on. The orca (SsH Giant Chomper) is a good example of this. When I first decided to add it to the level, I didn't have a full understanding of how the Seaside Hill exploit worked, and figured the same thing would be possible in Wave Ocean. And if it turned out that HAD been the case, that would've been fine, because the Giant Chomper would've been a fantastic mechanic for pretty much everyone except speedrunners, and I wouldn't have left it out just because it was possible to avoid it. And luckily, it turned out designing like that worked in my favor, because the exploit was completely fixable. Who'da known?
That being said, I think I kind of underestimated how fast Sonic can move while drifting on water, especially with Acceleration; I didn't realize it would be so easy to outrun the whale. The reason this route works is because the orca collision around the cave had to be lowered, because there was a bug where the orca would activate while you were going through the spring chain in the cave. If I knew it would let you skip that entire section, I probably would have adjusted it better so it would still activate on the water, but not in the spring chain.
Anyway yeah! Sorry for the wall of text, but hopefully it was interesting to someone. I'm sure this time can be improved further, because I found some better strategies after I finished this run, but couldn't manage to get another completion. Enjoy the video!

I like that tree drift :)
Hi sb
Said it once I'll say it again, THE GOD OF GENERATIONS.
Everett Smith-Jr Well i found a glitch in Tag mode which can skip pretty much the entire wave ocean stage but only on tag
Ok then plus I hate tag mode when you're Silver
Everett Smith-Jr lol
but it's thanks to silver though this glitch works lol
but silver is so slow and ppointless
Especially in Flame Core then its Troll gods vs Silver XD
Everett Smith-Jr I never made it that far lolol
0:30 Weeeeeee! The sky gem is back!!
0:31 No, no way. Stop it. There's no way.
0:34 ...Mother of God...
Holy shit that last shortcut! That mindset you explained in the description about how you balance the stages made me respect too much more you work, really nice job on the stage btw o/
i love your speedruns and levels, never get bored of these speed run videos espeically, so amazing!!
I'm really glad you focused on base level playability, and avoided extensive scripting, which unfortunately is more than I can say for some other mods *cough06projectandfrogforestcough*
the docks stacked on top each other looks bad though
once again, you are the true sonic my friend.
Parax, you're amazing at exploits and speed runs. I try to do speed runs, but I'm bad at them. You're an inspiration! :DDD
Sonic: running. Sonic on tree:I AM GOD
Do you still intend on finishing Kingdom Valley?
What the....shit man that was a damn good speedrun
Whoa that was awesome
I think it's brilliant that you created a stage with both casual play and speed running in mind. I think that, given how Sonic 06's Wave Ocean was a vast open space it only seems appropriate that you approach the Generations mod like it is part of that same space.
Plus who except you would boost off of a tree? :P
Yeah, there were some adjustments I made for speedrunning. Like, for the platforming section after the whale chase, I built it with the idea that the right path would be the easy/slow path, and the left path would be the fast/hard path. And then I realized that you could just air boost over the whole thing. Whoops. So I figured fuck it, let's make it a real path, and added the dash ring in the middle.
Mind, Blown.
What's with that Jaws moment while running over the water? Are you actually in danger similar to seaside hill?
Yep
Damn u got mad skills
And then this run was completely overshadowed by Sonic Boom.
You are a great Speedrun at Sonic Generations,Sonic Colors,Sonic Unleshed! at ALL!
I had the same sort of route your taking but somehow I can't pull off the drift technique you do (where your going straight away while drifting) and I keep on sliding too far into the water and get bodied by the orca
I honestly didn't realize you had that many lives until you said it on Twitter. :V
Amazing run and amazing mod, what else can be told?
that was soooo cool
Hey Paraxade! I've got a stage request for ya! Considering your skill, it would probably take you an hour, or so, so hear me out:
Okay, so you make a drag racing stage with markers at the 0M point, the 100M point and so on. According to page 214 of "The History of Sonic The Hedgehog," the 20th anniversary book, Sonic is about 107cm tall in his Unleashed/Generations T-pose. Using this information and 3DS Max's advanced measuring tool sets, you could scale the stage accordingly.
Next, have Sonic start the stage in the same way that he does in Rooftop Run: dashing to his top speed as soon as the clock begins.
Without even having to worry about GIA, splines and all that jazz you could finalize and release the stage right then and there to the public, allowing anyone to calculate truly accurate measurements of Sonic's speed in Generations! We would be able to calculate Sonic's speed with and without boost, with and without speed upgrades and even the speeds of Classic Vs. Modern Sonics! It would finally bring the debate over Sonic's in-game speed to a close!! (See Game Theory)
And it wouldn't stop there, OH no! Using this stage to calculate Sonic's true in-game speed, modders could modify Sonic's maximum speed values found in #Sonic.ar.00/Sonic.prm.xml and, using some simple Algebra, create a Sonic that can truly, unequivocally, ROLL AROUND AT THE SPEED OF SOUND. Wouldn't that be somethin'?
What do ya say, Paraxade? Sound like a fun side project?
Sonic's maximum speed is 70 without boosting, and as there's a 1.5x multiplier applied while boosting, 105 with boosting. The information is right in the xml file. You don't need to make a level to find that out :P
Paraxade0 No, I get that, but those values, "70" and "105." Those are merely arbitrary numbers without a sense of scale, am I right? That's what the level would be for! Filling in the missing part of the equation!
Hey Parax are you making Making Level play well for regular players is lot lmportant so speedrunners can't break it or exploit glitches
And to think I was proud with 1:01.89!
My best time without water-shortcuts is about 54 seconds. So at least you dont gain a huge advantage... however its a short stage anyway.
Parax, do you mind telling me what the hell is the symbol in those cyan floating signs? I think you're the first one to change those in a mod. And great run, as always!
On top is Sonic, doing that "running in place in the air just before escaping danger" cartoon gag. Below him are the jaws of an orca.
I'm Very Angry It's Not Butter Oh, I see! Pretty cool!
It would feel wrong for me to mention that you have 69 lives here, too.
Whoops.
Once wasn't enough, eh?
Paraxade0 Once is never enough.
How to get S Rank in this level? :D impossible????
classy life count...
What sonic 06 Should've been like...
I am surprised
Feels just like Sonic '06
How u spin dash on water?
You should have added on the wave ocean inlet part too. Level is a bit short.
Can you make a layout variation for this level that actually puts up some challenge? Man, seriously, you worked so hard just for a level that can be completed in 32 seconds?
Yep! And I'm totally fine with that!
Paraxade0 Are You Posting More Videos?
It felt like you were nervous.
He didnt get an S rank on his own stage!? Its his own stage and hes a speed runner
Hey supersonic68 paraxade0 is a guy that never gives up and trust me he is going to find a glitch through your level and it can't possibly take anyone an hour long that is insane
And I thought I was doing pretty well with a 1:04 and an S rank :P
Hey its just like playing sonic 06 again.
Wow you are faster than me with like 3 seconds 22 hectas
His lives I mean
0:44 to next rank 5 seconds 😂😂
*chuckles* 69 :)
Anyone else notice he had 69 lives?
wombo combo
Is this from Sonic 06?
Yep
69 lives
wooow my eyes
Para's Wave Ocean, Para's Wave Ocean everywhere (and that's a good thing)
Everywhere
Yes. First himself, then BrianuuuSonic, then you, then Melpontro, then Dario, then UltimateDarkman, then himself again.
Of course, that's everywhere XD
You forgot me
do you see that "you" word?
2 skill
Time to patch these so no one can beat your time xD jk
Not even an S Rank? Wut.
I used Endless Boost. The S-rank requires 100 rings.
Paraxade0 Oh. The result screen said that it requires five seconds which makes it seem impossible considering this is your speed run lol.
yaragorm Yeah, the S-rank time is technically 0:27, but with the maxed ring bonus it's actually 1:05.
Paraxade0 So if someone would attempt to speedrun this level and get an S Rank they'd have to be not using Endless Boost or basically beat the record you got in this video?
Blase005 They would either need to not use Endless Boost so they can get a ring bonus or finish in less than 27 seconds, yeah.
This game is too broken
The game is fine, it's just that Paraxade played through it. :P
Hhhh
