Dear Mr. Trek, I can say in all honesty, your ideas, determination and craftmanship are awe inspiring. Not only is the concept itself "out of this world", everything you do is just spot on. That short tour teaser is filmed so meticulously, that it really already looks like a tour through the final 1:25 scale setup. You certainly have an eye for this. Can't wait to see the model finished in all her glory.
The 1:25 model has so much potential for lighting, sounds, and even animation. Little audio or even video display panels could be added to the walkways to provide information about the different areas of the ship. One of the warp nacelles could be a complete cross section.
You are such a driven animal! I've barely gotten anywhere on the 1:100th I started and you've done a 1:200 and warehouse with walkways and support structure. All just so amazing. Great idea about the traveling display. I'd include a copy that 1:25th B/C cutaway you can get right up into, as well for conventions.
You have put in a lot of thought and action in to these builds. Very amazing of course. Where you end up having the completed 40 at to showcase to others will be an interesting challenge. Best of luck of course. From the years 1998 to 2008, Paramount Parks had a thing called Star Trek The Experience in Las Vegas. In researching the history of that place, there was plans to have a fully built, life size Enterprise that had hotel rooms in it. And of course the Bridge, Engine Room and other places based on the movie versions of the ship. That project never happened as it was too expensive to build, so the Star Trek attraction was created at the Hilton Hotel instead. It was very impressive. Your plans remind me a lot of that experience.
Being a model maker of museum quality models and dioramas, I suggest creating a "pressurized space dock" environment to set Enterprise within. This would raise the level of excitement and offer an excuse of "look but cant touch."
Mr Trek, as always, I am amazed by your vision, tenacity, and skill! Bravo! If you do decide to go the route of having the walk-around platform supporting the structure of the ship, please be sure that walking platform is rigid enough to prevent any swaying as enthusiastic children go running about. Or worse, as enthusiastic adults do the same. :-)
This is SO FREAKING COOL! Every update gets me more and more excited about the project and this journey you're on constructing this behemoth! Keep up the fantastic work!
The Nobel commitee should create a new prize category for Lifetime achievement and Excellence in model making and prototyping just for you! I like the idea of supporting the saucer with the walkway structure like you have here... much better than having the supports under the saucer itself! Good thinking.
Over time additional things could be added to this exhibit to keep up interest and get people to come back. If the building it large enough perhaps build a full scale transporter room for pictures and even video of the guests being dematerialized. Add 1:25 models of each of the bridges from different Enterprises.
You could have told me that you had acquired a warehouse and gone ahead with the 1:25th scale ship and I would have believed it. That was incredibly put together and shot. It really captured your vision for what you plan to do.
Thank you so much, that means a lot. Sometimes it just feels like I'm messing about with cardboard but then when I light it and shoot it and add a bit of soundtrack it really comes to life, and then comments like yours just magnify the magic!
Hi Mr. Trek, a truly outstanding significant post. There are so many elements and layers here that is leaving many wonderful impressionable memories. You have captured the wonder and spirit of Star Trek by making this differently and inspired off the original yet grounding this in what is familiar. Thank you Mr. Trek for taking us the audience on board this amazing engineering journey. Continued best wishes
One thing that greatly concerns me here is the easy accessibility of the top of the saucer and warp nacelles here. You have to keep in mind that there's going to be little kids getting out of control and adult hooligans who're going to try to do some really awful things. With that in mind, having covers for the warp nacelles and lightweight, easily replaceable plastic covers for the top of the saucer to keep people from chunking trash, spitting, reaching in to touch or tear off pieces, or commit acts of vandalism in general, is probably something you should consider. And picking a location where security for the building is a must and can't be broken into very easily. Sadly, something like this is just too much of a target for ill-minded people.
Agreed. There's a 20 foot Titanic model that's also a cutaway that keeps people at more than arms' length from it and has one side complete (port side) with no cutaway panels, just the starboard side is probably better way to go.
Mr Trek, Brilliant work❣ My suggestion is the elevated circular catwalk around the saucer section should extend between both engine nacelles all the way to the stern. where your elevator/turbo lift could be? It would make a quite large area for the visitors.
Nice idea, yes, there is still some work to do on the logistics of the viewing platforms. I like that though, to be able to walk from the saucer between the nacelles to the stern!
@@mrtrek2117 The vertical supports would straddle the secondary hull. while eliminating the need for vertical supports on the engine nacelles. (cantilever support like the saucer section)
Amazing work!! Very impressive. I would like to suggest though that the angle of the ramps look too steep. Building regs in Australia require a 14:1 ratio. You might want to take the UK requirements into account when building the final versions. Otherwise brilliant!!
On-rails cameras patrolling areas that are closed off by other decks of lack of viewing angle, streaming the perspective of a crewman to monitors at the exhibit and live online. Basically, a stroll around a closed off area/areas giving you full immersion (complete with a glimpse of the stars) that gives a day-in-the-life, while showing off the detail and scale in areas that wouldn't be appreciated otherwise.
I think having some blown up imagers on the outer side of the top walkway would be neat. You can have parts of the ship labeled and perhaps even include an episode reference. Obviously you wouldn't be able to use images from the show but we Trekkies know them by heart so an episode name would be plenty for us. I love this whole idea snd I am excited for it!
Here is a consideration for after hours. How will the model be cleaned? If you do add lights, how will they be accessed for repair or replacement? How will the construction be made to be accessed for these repairs? Will the ship framework support the weight of a person if needed? Will the staff working here have additional walkways that can be added for access?
I would maybe consider having one half of the ship open, catwalks for viewing, showing off what's inside. The other half on screen hero, outside ship larger than life, unobstructed by walk ways, beams, big supports. Internal metal armature could remove the need for a lot of external supports
You could add a second level surrounding the saucer, beneath the first level, going almost all the way around so someone could look up at the underside of the saucer and lower decks
9:23 My freaking hero! 😂 I know how inaccessible those ‘60s sets can be, having visited the recreation in Ticonderoga. They were VERY kind and helped me down and then back up the steps to get photos seated in the captain’s chair. Another couple pointers I can see to aid accessibility: if there’s just one step down from that straight platform to the round one it will be easier for people to get there if they want-most of us in manual ‘chairs can handle one step on our own, but two is much harder. Also on the ring platform, the bussard collectors sticking into the path risk making it too narrow for a ‘chair to pass. I like them being close enough for people to see, so it might be better if the platform compensated with a little extra space on the saucer side.
I have enjoyed every vid you have made but this one made me dream. Dream of being able to see my room, in 1/25th scale, dream of seeing the workstation I’ll be posted to, dream of the crew I will work with. What you are giving us is the dream we have all had since first seeing Star Trek. When this is all complete I will make the trip to see this, and, if possible, I will shake your hand and buy the first round 😉
Won't matter what you do, you won't please everyone. I would like a completed exterior side with no obstructions or walkways and have all the open areas and platforms on one side. All the test models on display to show the process behind a partition so they aren't in the main area. This will make people move around rather than stand still and hog a space.
The final model will be so big you won't be able to see the top. You could make it so from the ground and left hand side the ship appears complete, but the top and right side you can see all the decks. The walkways should be combined into one long accessible route, all with ramps and no steps.
Even the miniature is an amazing piece of set design! ❤ As for it going on tour, if only holodecks were a real thing! How about VR or augmented reality goggles though?
"Please excuse the crudity of this model. I didn't have time to build it to scale or paint it." ~ Mr Trek in every video haha Me "it looks great doc" 😎🖖
The logistics of this need some work. One thing is to provide better protection for the model for sure and the other is make the platforms retractable or on one side only so that people can get whole view beauty shots of the entire thing. The starboard side or port side should have a complete exterior with no cutaways so that people can see it whole on one side and then the cutaway interiors on the other.
Still my favourite thing on RUclips right now, the amount of work going into this is astonishing. Regarding the display of the saucer section, is it either possible to lower one half of the circular viewing platform to get a better view of the underside decks, or else have another platform that takes you up that far? Regardless, love the planning you’ve put into that aspect of displaying the model. Know what I’d like to see? Adam Savage take a tour of the finished Enterprise 👍
I really like your concept for the warehouse catwalks. They remind me strongly of the (US) National Air and Space Museum's Udvar-Hazy Center, in Chantilly, Virginia. I wouldn't be surprised if that (or some other museum like it) was your inspiration. If you haven't looked at the Udvar-Hazy Center for inspiration, I suggest you do - it's got a lot of features that will help you plan this display. One thing I'll recommend strongly - DO NOT allow the Bussard collectors to protrude into the catwalks. Cut off the port and starboard catwalks before they get to the nacelles, and add a high catwalk straight across above the nacelles, a little behind the Bussards. The reason is simple. If the Bussards protrude into the catwalk: 1) People will touch them 2) People will lean on them 3) People will sit on them 4) People will damage them 5) People will trip over them and be injured I think you can simplify the secondary hull catwalk. Make the port and starboard catwalks the same level as the aft catwalk, essentially a big U-shape, and you can move the ramps forward. The ramps would be outboard of the secondary hull catwalk, running forward, and you can make them a switchback. This will make the port and starboard catwalks higher than you have them here, but if you're going to break out the lower decks of the secondary hull as separate displays anyway, that's not a big deal.
Seems like the ship is encased by the walkways (sort of a "can't see the forest for the trees" effect), also there may be issues with how close the people are to the ship. You may get handprints, bits of sandwiches/candy bars etc stuffed into hallways. Yes, I'm a parent and know how kids can be. (And sometimes parents, too...or college kids). Maybe have a separation of the walkways/ship by 3'-5' according to convenience and practicality. Otherwise, gorgeous as always!
Also, I agree with the fellow about the entire presentation existing within a hanger deck mockup. However, once inside, it would be an incredibly impressive feeling of size if you could have one of the walls (left or right) to be made up as a 1:1 expression of a small part of the secondary hull. By doing that, you would be simulating the feeling you get when you stand under a ship that has been lifted out of water. It would offer a rather overwhelming understanding of the true size of the ship without actually having to build it for anyone standing there looking away from your 25th scale representation. Sorry for offering my unrequested opinion, but you have really started something exciting here!
Sure! On one side of the "inner hangar presentation room". The other side could be the outside of the secondary hull side / under-belly - ha! Anyway, it is a huge honor that you took the time to reply. Your videos are highly inspirational and your development plan for how the public will be allowed to interface with the "super structure" is absolutely top shelf! What you are building will be the first and only thing ever to get me to fly overseas. Please know that your efforts are deeply appreciated! We are web developers, graphic artists, programmers, marketers, and an online hosting company. I wish there were some way for us to be of service to your extremely worthy project! Sincerely and without hesitation, Max
@Mr Trek: After following your grandiose mission for quite a while now I just came up with an issue I never had thought about before: How will you manage the placement of Jeffries- tubes all through the ship's body? - I imagine that'll be some very tricky and hard nut to crack too.
A really fantastic model! I have one question... Have you thought about how you will keep the finished model from absorbing moisture in this huge hall? I think you will inevitably have to? The big door that keeps opening and letting moisture in. Then the people who want to see it also have vapours, their breath, they come in with wet clothes and so on. There are many other things that are very bad for the climate of the cardboard and you have to protect it in this huge hall. Oh and I forgot all the people who confuse their fingers with their eyes... But the worst thing will be the mould, which will sooner or later penetrate the cardboard because it is not treated and the air is not cleaned. I think you will need a huge air conditioning system, then possibly an airlock to prevent the air (the climate outside) from entering the interior without being air-conditioned and purified. Maybe even insulate the hall itself. It would be a shame if this wonderful model was damaged!
Mr Trek has mentioned several times in past videos that he doesn't intend to use any "Card Board" in the final build. But intends to use something like "Gatorfoam board" TM A high quality foam core laminated product art/sign makers use. There are a lot of manufactures of these products.
Actually the opposite, there is a lot of sacrifice involved when an artist pursues his/her passion. I rely solely on the awesom patrons who support me. I am far far away from being a millionaire.
Love that! It would be so easy to do also. Regular lift with MDF dressing to make it look like a turbo lift. Inexpensive but incredible as part of the original Enterprise experience. Thanks for the input!
The real genius apart from the whole damn thing is with all that support structure , it doesn't hide any of the Enterprise. It even enhances the whole experience. ❤ 🖖😊

Good points, thanks for the input and encouragement!
Sounds logical Captain. Make it so 😊.
Love that idea, thanks for the input, maybe even one of the decks of the dorsal presented at full scale!

Awesome, send me a mail at mrtrek1701@gmail.com and let's have a chat.
Will do, Sir!
This is a work from love nontheless
Great work and pesentation when you come to the big build why not use steel cables and box section of all those cluncky visable trusses?.
Regards😊
Thanks for the input, steel cables is probably the way it will go for the big E ;-)
Warp speed!
Love the idea of the lifts and ramps. That way Captain Pike will be able to appreciate it too. 😉
Yes, indeed, Pike will totally appreciate it! ;-)
But intends to use something like "Gatorfoam board" TM
A high quality foam core laminated product art/sign makers use. There are a lot of manufactures of these products.
It's all been thought through, thanks for the input and encouragement! ;-)
@@MadDog-1961 Thanks for the reply!
I had only seen one other video of him at the time
You really had me convinced that was the full scale thing! 😂 Fantastic work!
Awesome, thank you for the encouragement!
He made A Model of The Model ! Wow ! I love it ! Reminds me of something Al Pacino might say if he saw this lol
Love it, I can actually hear Pacino saying it!
you must spend a lot of your time doing your exquisite models, you simply must be a millionaire to have so much time available to do this project.
Actually the opposite, there is a lot of sacrifice involved when an artist pursues his/her passion. I rely solely on the awesom patrons who support me. I am far far away from being a millionaire.
Replica Enterprise full sized lift to take disabled up to red railing saucer section on 1/25 version an option would be cool😂
Thank you so much, a lot of consideration went into and continues to go into being able to show the ship without invasive platforms and supports!
Are you using the turbolift shafts as the support structure of the ship? I think that's your best bet!
