I hadn’t had a relationship with my father in over 7 years , I found out he passed last week 4 days later , I asked him for a sign that he was with me and Alexa Randomly turned on and played this song !! Then turned herself off again , it’s beautiful and has me crying every time I hear it ❤️

My grandmother passed away earlier this year, and this song reminds me of her especially the Disney Advert. And this upcoming Christmas will be the first Christmas without her. Thank you for this inspirational song. I hope all songs are worthy and has message just like this.
@Emma My nana died from cancer in 2018 so this will be my 2nd Christmas without her. 💔💔 I’m still going through the same too but it’s not as bad now and I will eventually learn to cope with the loss and continue to stay strong. My thoughts are with you and everyone else who has lost a loved one. 🙏✨

Same situation here. She passed away last April. This vid makes me bawl my eyes out. 😭 I miss my lola so much, I watched the vid for the nth time and it still gets me everytime. Especially this year without her. This video is heartwarming and timely. 🥺 I can't describe how much this means to me. 😭
Hearing this bring back memories and pain that I buried .My grandma took away her last breath on April with her hands on mine and the last thing I told her is that she is the best thing happened to me. This Christmas would hit differently without her.

This song is beautiful. Reminds me of my Nan. She’s in a care home in England, and I live in Wales. She also has a very bad memory and can often forget about me. I haven’t seen her since February last year before the Covid pandemic began, ever since that day, it’s been hard not being allowed to visit her. It hurts that I can’t see her, but it hurts my dad even more. Because he can’t even go and visit his own mother and give her a hug. So, every time I hear this song, I instantly think about her and it makes me very emotional even though I don’t often get emotional... I miss you, Nan. ❤️

The Philippines has been devastated with the 2 most powerful typhoons and more to come, this 2020. I just can’t help not to cry for a lot would have their homes wiped out, including the families of those who worked overseas. This song really hits me deep inside.

My grandad's wife passed away today she had dementia.This song made me think about their love and how it was her compass as she was losing her memories. I played this to her at the weekend and she became alert I told her this is her song I will always think of her and grandads love story when I hear this song.

A few things you might have missed:
In 2004 the houses don’t look native to the Philippines it has very foreign qualities so it must mean that the Lola (the Grandmother) immigrated to a foreign country and is terribly homesick for the Philippines (it’s very common for Filipinos to immigrate or have a relative in another country). Lola passed the lantern making practice to her granddaughter as a way to preserve the tradition and culture but also for her to feel more at home in a foreign country. In the end the Granddaughter made and put up several Parols (star lanterns) that reminded the grandmother of the 1940 Christmas she spent in the Philippines, making her feel at home. Wherever the grandmother may be, through the love that the she shared with her granddaughter through the Mickey Mouse gift and Lantern Making, she can always find home. (Both in a person and her home country). Thus the title “Love is a compass”. Also in the ending segment it says “From our family to yours” it’s a popular saying and caption among Filipinos wherein during Christmas families take photos together and send greeting cards or simply just post the picture with that caption as a way to greet others and spread the love. Also in the scene where the little girl takes the hand of the elderly man and presses it against her forehead it’s Filipino tradition called “mano” it’s done when greeting or meeting someone significantly older (grandparents, uncles, aunts or friend’s parents) to show sign of respect. It’s done while simultaneously saying “mano po” to ask permission or consent to the other person that you’re about to take their hand. The other person will often smile or lift their hand to you to signify they accept. In an attempt to translate “mano po” in English, Filipinos will often say “bless po” derived from somewhat asking a blessing from the elderly.
The 2005 houses look like a small town that could be somewhere here in the UK! I don't know if that's where it supposed to be but it has a very UK town feel to me (that street definitely took me back to my own childhood memories 😊) If it is supposed to be that, it would show the vast distance Lola is from her home. Thanks for sharing the from our house to yours info. I think that Disney have done a really nice think with this ad, i love the little details they've put in and it's been lovely learning of the beautiful traditions from Phillipine culture through this 😊
