As fun as it is to see you guys build cars, I think you just gotta keep it! Drive it till she's in the ground!
Keep the old girl ❤
I’ve watched ALL your videos on this Tundra, it’s far SUPERIOR to the New Gen 3 Tundra that Toyota is building now! Keep it! Rust is brutal up there! Looking forward to the next update.
Agreed
Why not diamond coat or lanolin? See youtuber 7yr experiment/show in rust belt.
I’ve been doing rust removal on my GX470, and first hand I will tell you.
- clean the area first
- evaporust rust remover spray will DECIMATE the rust.
- then clean the area again with a wire brush or compressor tool
- then fluid film over everything
It is saving my GX!
fluid film does an excellent job when applied over cleaned metal i do the same on my lx470
does it take the black coating /paint off of the undercarriage? I have a few spots on my bmw and I'm wondering that.
Using a $1000+ knife to check the rust in the ball joint is absurd... and I love it. Keep up the good work, gentlemen!
I would check ya'lls page periodically for Tundra updates and this title made my stomach drop.
As messy as it is, Krown really does get in all those tight spots and overlapping seams. Pick up a few cans of T40 and spot treat those areas. You can spray the tailgate and it will work its way down to that lower hem and protect it.
Dave just used a $1,000 knife to cut open a boot lol. It’s nice to see someone actually use a knife for what it’s made for.
You can paint the caliper using high heat engine paint and it won’t rust. Just wipe clean and spray 6:11
Like the long term updates, mods, and maintenance. Really cool spec and set up on this
Love how you guys save old vehicles! Keep it up 👍
I've had 3 vehicles in 30 years😄, the lowest mileage vehicle is my current 2008 Chevrolet Uplander 3.9 at 281,000 miles so far and despite keeping the underside rustproofed with a light film of oil from leaks, it still runs great. The other 2 cars were a 1993 Nissan Altima with 300,000+ miles and 1985 Mazda 626 5 speed with 400,000+ miles.
Never clicked so fast
Got 550,000kms on my 07 and albeit a bit rusty, still running great
Regarding any products that you use to fight corrosion and rust- you just can't win when fighting Mother Nature. Honey Seal, along with other service, will provide excellent inhibitors, but to no fault of them or any product, salt and age are more powerful. That rig is in great shape for having that many miles and living in such a salt-heavy region. Kepp it around for a couple more seaons!
I recently scrapped my 2007 Avalon with 474000km because of rust, it was treated with oil every year since 2010 but the floor rails were still rusted quite a bit, also around the jacking point I got a screwdriver right true, sad it was mechanically sound...
She's doing so good for an 08, definitely keep her and keep putting the miles on her.
Saturday morning lineup starts with a good 'ol Speed Academy!!! 👍
Saturday morning cartoons!!!!! Lol lol that's what I call the 3 channels that release every Saturday! Lol
Canadians be schnappin' bolts on the daily!
Best build ever on this channel- do more with it- better views = more $ for you, this is it
keep, lets see it go over million miles!
250 K Miles 🤔 Make it 1M
I hated the PowerStops on my Tundra. The reason I put them on was watching your video....yours lasted longer than mine I will say that.
9:00 when Pete says “holy smokes” and the canister is actually smoking 💙💙
Keep the Tundra! Ol' reliable ❤
Super appreciate that you guys decided to continue to breathe life into this old car, a build series for the people!
I bought a similar Tundra (blue with an ARE cap) in a rural Ontario (Flesherton) and drove it back to NS. I regret selling that truck. Keep it!
Keep it! My dad has an ‘08 Tundra and they are just workhorses. Definitely keep it
I am so happy that rust is not an issue where I live. It makes working on cars so unenjoyable.
Every video on a Canadian car on this channel makes me thankful I live in Australia with no snow or salted roads and practically no rust.
4:30 hell yeah, use your fancy Norseman!
1000$ pocket knife good lawd!
Nothing wrong with that truck. I would highly recommend a wax or lanolin based undercoating every year. 2 cans of CRC marine anti corrosion does wonders to stave off the rust. I live in New Hampshire with lots of salt also. My Tundra is in great shape rust wise (I wouldn't say rust free), but that is on me. I started protecting at the first signs of rust and it has not gotten any worse. Funny enough my 18 has been fitted with. Dasaita as well. Works great.
They make this stuff called fluid film ,woolwax , surface shield . Coat the underside, rockers ,inside any cavity you'll get another 10 years out of it !
A Ytuber does videos on this. 7yrs shows everyrhing.
The paint matched tailgate looks pretty darn good! Definitely think this truck is a keeper.
These videos are my favourite of yours, just more relatable I suppose! Keep it :-)
Fellers that wrinkle paint is great but uv resistance is crap. I painted a bumper and it hazed out in about a year. Love the content!
Love stuff like this! Long term updates are so useful. Great work boys!
The OG rig actually forgot about it been seeing too many BMWs around here. Now we need to see a CRV update
18:53 imposable to just buy another, why get rid of it?
Keep it! I got an 07 with 360k kms, would love to have your front end. Its well taken care of and i dont think its worth that much anyway so might as well keep going !
1:37 - Lexus SC300/400 for a next project car... Yes please💪😎
4:57 - i like Mevotech suspension parts. I think they are Canadian and they usually come with grease fittings, v which is great for servicing.
Oooooh Yeah!! I saw that! Lookin up all those sc400’s!!
I’m sooo stoked to see that car built by you gents! 😏🤙🏼
Love the Tundra! Keep putting a little bit of $$$ Into it and keep it running. I have a 2012 SR5 Tacoma with 151k miles in the great state of Maine USA and we see the salt for 5 months out of the year. I keep fluid filming every year and try to wash it as much as possible. I'll take a older Toyota any day of the week over the new ones
Good on you for keeping the big girl 👍 love the truck and the upkeep vids.
Out of all they money they have spent, throughout the years. The most balling thing I've seen is using a Grimsmo Norseman to cut into that ball joint 😧. Even though I like using my tools as tools, it still hurts a bit.
New to the channel! Very happy I found you guys, this channel rocks!
Truck looks good, if any question, apply KROWN or woolwax. Be carefull with paint like "SEALANTS", the water and moisture will permiate between the metal/bond if it is not at the molecular level and eventually cause micro>>general rust issues that you cant see because the sealant covers the problem.
This!
Dont get rid of that tundra!
I still DD my 01 Tundra and always will.
I would keep that truck forever. In my opinion no one builds anything worth a shit nowdays.
I have a Toyota tundra is good to watch your videos from California
Guys, don’t bother with any other rust proofing except for Krown. Nothing comes close to Krown applied yearly. The undercarriage on the Tundra looks dry and without any protection….don’t fall for any other rustproofing. I tried everything in Ontario…
You guys should keep the tundra, my dad just had is 100,000 mile service done on his 2013 tundra which he bought used in 2016 with only 28,000 miles on it.
Would love to see content on a newer 2022 Tundra! But they are expensive but used truck market is on fire right now you could have a good price for this one!
Does the head unit work with the factory steering wheel controls? That’s the main reason I have not put a new head unit in my tundra is I want to retain the steering wheel controls. Thanks guys love the videos.
Yes it should. Came with a different harness for steering wheel controls
@ speedacademy thank you! Also keep the tundra there are no good trucks now. I’m keeping mine till it is dead then buying an old truck from a southern state. New England rust isn’t as bad as you guys but it’s not good.
Keep it forever guys…. A lot of people are going back to these older more reliable and durable (read simple…) trucks from the new “software defined” vehicles being produced now!! Hybrids, turbos, screen-controlled everything…. I’m keeping my Nissan Titan 2018 forever after seeing what my buddy is going through with his beautiful but finicky GMC Sierra “computer on wheels” 🙃
Wow, that HoneySeal underbody work seems to have worn off in just 2 years!! Seriously? Glad he stands behind this as I’d like to get my wife’s Jeep JKU done.
Omg the salt. I forgot how bad it was. Glad I live in Vancouver now.
I am at the same point with my truck, a 2001 Mazda B4000. It definitely needs some work (brakes & suspension mainly). However, now that I live in a condo, it's much harder to do any of that work myself. Considering changing the brakes in a Princess Auto parking lot and driving the truck as is until I am ready to buy something like a BRZ.
Keep up the love! She’s a beauty!
I have the exact same truck and only had to replace the driver wheel bearing, waterpump, and ujoint. this past year at 200kmiles The only thing I dislike about it is the MPG and smaller fuel tank. Having to constantly get fuel. The light pops up at 280miles. Its my winter driver, hauler, and road trip vehicle. It would be a great truck if I can get 400-450 fuel range. Your tundra is cosmetically better looking. But I never updated anything cosmetically. It should last me a lifetime if I keep up the maintenance. However I am thinking a new tacoma for modern, and fuel range.
I'm in the opposite boat, I think you should sell it. To me! I'm in the market for a beater truck, this would be perfect.
you could use bedliner for those side steps.
Casually using a $1k+ knife to cut up a ball joint is badass
nice to see someone that has an older second gen still working on it, im at 320k mi still going good though i have replaced a trans solenoid and sometimes have an issue with it shifting, short of that i had a passenger cat go out and a starter and a water pump, all in all i couldnt be more than happy with the vehicle, dont know if i can justify buying a new one.
Im curious I Tried Hawk Pads twice, both time with OE Disc and Caliper the pad material stuck past the rotor atleast 1/8th inch....
The truck is doing its job. Maintain it and let it reward you for your investment. Solid citizen.
Glad I purchased a new 2nd generation 2021 Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro employing that bulletproof naturally aspirated 3UR-FE 5.7 liter V-8 engine and reliable 6 speed Aisan transmission
Keep it and take it to 500k km, makes for great content.
It doesn't look like the honey seal held up that well over only 2 years. Interesting to see they are trying to improve the process, but If you need to get a recoat every 2 years it probably makes more sense to just lanolin coat (fluid film / surface shield) every year or every other year. Not sure about how much the honey seal process costs but fluid film is very cost effective even if you do it every year.
Keep her going!
hewitt technologies evap bypass kit is the way to go imo
Thumbs up for keeping the truck going. That's how it should be, especially considering how new trucks / vehicles are overpriced junk.
Where did you guys buy that Dasaita stereo head, and how much was it?
Fellow Tundra owner. LFG.
😆 I love lickings of the plate
I can't stress this more than possible but POR the underbody and frame. I'm surprised you guys did not POR the underbody after going to Honey Seal for the underbody cleaning this time and 2 years ago.
RUclips friends don't let fruends POR their cars/frames
@MrGamman3yt why is that?
That is a really nice rig
I vote for keeping the truck, if that means the Suzuki will get picked from your budget budget from the last episode. 😊
As an Australian, who will never have to deal with the likes of Canadian cars, I do enjoy these long term vehicles that seriously get used. 😅
I have the same truck
I vote you keep it
Keep it but honestly, I would like to see how honey seal holds up on a brand new car that gets driven a lot like the tundra.
Forget the honeyseal on rusty cars, you need to “Crown” it! Ontario salt will rust plastic. 😂
Still a good looking truck
Out of curiosity, why not apply rust eater spray every time you put the car on the lift that will convert the rust into metal? And anywhere on top, nuts, bolts that have rust? I do that to my car with great result.
New trucks are JUNK! Spray that wax fluid film all over it and keep replacing parts as they wear out, that engine is solid gold. I had a 2008 and sold it to my Dad who let a quick lube shop ruin the engine by putting 10 qts of oil in it. Loved that truck 😢
thought you guys dry ice cleaned and honeysealed it ? still rusting! crazy!
What's the factory GPS like on that head unit? Do you use google maps or is there a factory style GPS map? It would be awesome if you guys took it for a drive and demonstrated all the different the map options with and without GPS.
Hi friend, our head unit can use CarPlay maps. Or use our built-in maps, IGo, Waze, etc. You can also download other maps on our host, which is very convenient.
@@Dasaita Hello! Do I need data from a phone or does it work on the included/stock GPS antenna? I want it to be as good or better than the stock GPS on the tundra/sequoia (which isn't that great). I haven't seen any videos of driving around showing off the various GPS/map options to see what it's like when in motion. It's the main thing holding me back from buying a unit. I need the GPS to be seamless. I like the ability to use google maps but still want a good built in maps option using the GPS antenna. Thanks!
You should replace the rusty license plate bolts too.
Keep her ,my 08 has 240 thousand miles been using fluid film and surface shield for years ,many miles to up state ny snowmobiling salt f sucks
time to sell and build a new tundra. twin turbo v6 baby!!
Just got my coffee, ready for my Truck-toons
Keep the old girl. trust me.. if old girl doesn't have frame rust and the long block or transmission isn't shot internally. it's minor service wear and tear doesn't hurt on them trucks. At least they aren't notorious stuff like 3rd gen 4runner, 1st gen tundra and tacoma lower ball joint stuff..
What brand of control arm did you guys have and go with this time?
Keep the tundra!!
Keep it!
I want one! Now even more
It's not that bad for rust actually. Im in New Brunswick and they salt the hell out of our roads. Have a 15 tacoma that I undercoat every year, so far so good.
Where is the fluid film under that barge?
wanna be careful heating up the bolts on the evap canister, as the evap canister hold fuel fumes
How does the evap cannister get water in it?
I'd definitely keep it, absolutely nothing available new that anywhere near as good.
Keep the old girl - I got my 2015 for as long as it holds together!
