Just found your channel and will be catching up over the next few days. Any idea what that big structure across the street from Dinosaur World in Plant City used to be?
You do such a great job with all of the videos. But these ones are particularly outstanding because they show us places that tourists would not know about or visit.
Also, Madison had some fabulous “grand dame’s”, one was Mrs Willie Clare, our historian and keeper of Madison memories. For years Ms Willie Clare would greet guests at the gates, be it weddings, receptions, tours, Christmas Open House, she was there to share a bit of the history of Madison’s beloved Mansion. It was no surprise that you picked up an energy with the emf at the gate…Miss Willie Clare herself 😊
That would be a cool video or video series watching you go to odd and unique book stores lookimg for old books for your grandpa to read. Bookstores are really neat and you can find really neat old things and just about every town has one so it will take you to even more places and your grandpa will get more books!
It housed Madison Middle School for some time after its initial use. I attended Middle School here in 1981. It is in a sad state now, but I suppose that there will be no improvement in the future. I wouldn’t be surprised if it were full of asbestos.
I saw a short reference that stated this building was used as a middle school after the college closed and merged with another university in 1966. Wonderful historic site. It would be nice to refurbish and reuse it.
thank you sharing forgotten florida. those older desks were a flashback to childhood. shame the building's not kept up for use as a newer tech/trade school, your vlogs are wonderful.
Thank you, Tampa Jay 👋.. these videos that you do are well thought out and done with such respect . This is a huge factor on why they are so interesting .. enjoy and be well ✌️👀🎩.
Computers were beige and light grey until 1996. Most likely, that campus was in use until the early 2000s. You should also bring a good stick, like a hiking pole with you. Good for clearing brush in your path, making noise to keep away snakes and protection.
Huge fan of these abandoned videos, Tampa Jay! Such a waste of an education center that could have been turned into a shelter or another education type place. Keep up the good work on these videos TJ, you keep filming, we'll keep watching. 😊 Just keep in mind when visiting these places, always check you self for ticks and scratches before going back to haunted places, lol.🤘😜🤙
Good morning, TJ. I love these old town vids ya do. I can't believe they'd leave that place after all these years. Hey, yesterday was my 57th and Adam the Woo's 50th Birthdays
phenomenal video. I love both series of videos. I'm foreseeing haunt will be on in old florida aka madison soon lol. Know your awesome, know your loved, and no matter who you are or what your going through just know there is always much ahead. Since i've been watching your videos Jay, there was a time where that saying basically saved my life. I was in a dark place once upon a time, so I have to thank you for that saying. Anyway I'm just being vulnerable lol, I see you as like a brother because I've been watching your videos for years now. I must say I'm proud to watch you grow over that time to where your at now. Much love.
To me, the county used this campus for either Tech school, or an overflow campus because there's no way there would be a TV on the wall in a segregated school in the 1960s! The comments you said of use in the 90s now makes sense! The county or state definitely used the campus back then. Madison is definitely a place to go back to!
That Madison book store looks amazing! What good buys! WOW! Love all things haunted and paranormal too, loved the Ghosthunters on sci-fi when it was popular and even investigated with the team in PA at Fort Mifflin, amazing experience.
We also love exploring book stores that are 2nd hand. We usually go to Paperback Exchange in NPR on ridge road. Highly recommend. The one in Dade City is good too but further away so dont go as often. Thanks for sharing!
That gym was worth the price of admission alone! So awesome man, these have become (when we’re lucky enough to have them) required Sunday morning viewing for us!
much appreciate you my good bud! I am grateful for the opportunity to explore in document and put this out in the universe, for great people like you to watch. Hope you’re having a happy sunday!
Since u do abandon location and stuff.. I was wondering if u were did the abandonment of Rosewood Florida massacre? Really enjoy ur videos and specifically the haunted Halloween ones.. great channel..
Thanks, Jay for looking around Madison. Also, I would have to say that you have a brave streak going through you with the abandoned School. There could have been any type of animal or person in there... but you kept on going... so Lets Go...also the little creepy place at the end there and the scratches?? Be careful Jay when tampering with the Supernatural... with all of that said... keep up the good work as always and Enjoy
Okay.. Jay, Great video and this location needs to be restored. Now I noticed something interesting . Next to the overhead projector (24:42) to the right is a device I was all too familiar with. It is a film recorder used to capture computer imaging onto 35mm film. I use to have one of these back in "the day" and they cost a small fortune...
“Restoration” for a place in that bad of shape does not happen in an area as poor as ours. We don’t have the tax base nor the individuals with deep pockets that would be needed to refurbish a place for which there would be no use. Also, I imagine that asbestos removal would enter into the equation if remodeled. Can you even imagine the millions that it would take just to dispose of this wonderful old insulation? 🙄
Crazy to see an abandoned school in America, don’t really see that unless they knock it down…also you look much younger with short hair! Looks great and cool 😎
Jay, Love these abandoned places videos. Be safe out there my friend. On a side note are you familiar with the Telford Hotel in white springs Florida? I think it's just off I-75 near the Suwannee River Not sure if it is still open but I think it has some interesting history if you haven't been there already.
Happy Sunday evening Tampa Jay just watched another great video 📹 off yours keep up the good work love from Michelle over here in Nottingham in England 🇬🇧 😊😅😂❤❤
The push button phone that you saw in the office was from the mid 1970's or 80's. It didn't exist in the 1960. Some of the text books laying around looked like they were from the 80's too. I wonder if someone used the campus as a public school for a while after the college was closed down.
I was born and raised in Madison. This school is an old middle school called wild cats. They closed it down when the Madison county central school which combines middle and elementary it actually closed down in 99
I believe only the section left of the administration building was the college. The rest of the campus was grade 1-12. I attended middle school here. Starting in 5th grade when schools integrated in 1969 or 70. My daughter also attended middle school until 2001. Thousands of students were on that campus after 1966 until 2001. The original college section was used for upper grades, 8th and 9th. I can still recall teachers, subjects taught and which classrooms.
Interesting history of Swanee River College . The college was built by the state of Florida for African American students in the 1950's and closed in 1966 by the Federal Government's Integration ruling. A quote from a book on the college : The Black community "lost the feeling of belonging" and "the resentment held by some community persons and students could not be easily overcome". As elsewhere, the facilities for the Black students were closed, and facilities for the white students were minimally affected." Apparently only 50 of the 402 black students actually moved from Swanee to the previously white college upon the forced closure of Swanee and integration.
If that old mansion in Madison was used as a Civil War hospital, they most likely did some amputations. It could be your reading was from body parts that had either been tossed there or buried there.
Amazing content Jay...crazy that property has not been repurposed in all these years...crazy that it only existed for 7 years and then was just abandoned one might think it could be reused as a homeless shelter or something like that... shameful to let it just decay away.😎🇺🇲🐊
Those scratches may have happened when you said you were a Yankee...and being in front of a Confed. Hospital? Could have happened at that abandoned College too. Great Vlog for sure Jay. Hope a Ghost doesn't follow you back into your car..
I look it up in the space was shared with Suwannee high School. I assume that continue to use it after the community college last that computer and the place to put up the TV gave me the clue that it wasn't 1966 when it was closed I was surrounded in 1966 and we didn't have any TVs that were mounted on anything but the floor until much later
This is my home town. This facility was never shared with Suwannee County high school. It was a middle school educating 5-8 after the college closed until 2001 when they consolidated the middle schools and it was shut down. My class of 2001 was the last graduating class.
GREAT VID JAY, my youngest brother JEFF has a utube channel. VIRGINIA PARANORMAL INVESTAGIONS. HE ALSO DOES HAUNTED WALKING TOURS IN YORKSTOWN VA AS WELL. I LIVE IN POMPANO BEACH and i love watching all the small towns. stay safe
So, part of this is true, but the latter part of the information is incorrect. After the closing of the college, which was only the science wing, the building/campus was added onto in the mid 70's and transformed into Madison Middle School, home of the Wildcats. I went to middle school here and was the last graduating 8th grade class in 2001. It's still a great place of history. It has been sitting vacant since the summer of 2001, so 23 years.
Thank you so much for this video, honestly. It was bittersweet to watch. I have a lot of fond memories there, and it’s crazy to see it all overgrown. I’d be happy to share some pictures with you of it back in the day when I was there if you’re interested.

@@TampaJay Hey Jay you should check out Old World Florida Podcast with Dr Longo! He has very interesting theories on the history of Florida….
Your videos are awesome and teaches some of Florida’s history. Stay safe out there and keep up the great work.
It was also a middle school. My daughter attended this school in the 90’s into 2001
Suwannee River Junior College was later the Madison County Middle School from the mid-60’s until Madison Central School was built in early 2000
Abandoned videos are the best

You're lucky that you don't encounter snakes in these abandoned videos of yours. You're very brave dude, keep it up!

You do such a great job with all of the videos. But these ones are particularly outstanding because they show us places that tourists would not know about or visit.
Very interesting!! I love history. So sad the college didn't survive longer, and expand!! Thank you Jay
