This isn't true, regarding Dawn Wells not ever singing on the show. She absolutely sang her part when they did the episode with the "Mosquitoes". The "girls" were called the "Honey Bees" and sang the song, "You Need Us/Me". Listen to it. Not only is it a great song, Dawn sings it beautifully.

I'm surprised you didn't mention that Dawn Wells ALSO took on the role of Natalie Schafer's live in care taker while she was dying of liver cancer. And remember that she ALSO had her OWN residuals to live off of too, so she COUlD spend all of her savings, because she had a dependable regular income stream. Gilligan's Island has Always been on the air SOMEWHERE in the world. And with To be fair, Natalie Schafer HAD spent a good amount on medical care for her cancer too, so her inheritance wasn't as big as it COULD have been.
Maybe if Tina had made the residual deal DAWN did, she wouldn't be so bitter about the show.

Dawn is buried with her mother up in Reno I believe it was, passed away from covid-19 complications she was well into her 80s I believe but I know she got hurt a few years ago and had to go to the hospital for a while. And a friend of hers started a GoFundMe page which raised quite a few thousand dollars, enough to pay some if not most medical bills, and she had a yard sale so to speak everything in the yard that was displayed and on into the house was for sale! Now there's a yard sale I wish that could have gone to! Wow! I didn't know that, thank you for sharing. I was a couple of years too young to care about watching the show when it was new episodes. A couple of years after it was cancelled, I liked watching it when it came out as reruns that aired after school. It's actually kind of funny, but you and this video bring back good childhood memories that I haven't thought about for decades! I lived on the end of a road that the school bus didn't go down, so if I ran as fast as I could down this road, I would make it home just in time to not miss the beginning of each episode. Then during the first commercial break I could go and get a bowl of one of my favorite cereals.

@@MoparMissileDivision I didn't get to see it new either. My grandparents (who raised me) thought it was silly and wouldn't watch it. I watched it in the afternoons too, but I lived LITERALLY across the street from the school, and it wasn't on till 4:00 so I had plenty of time for a snack. But I usually had either milk (or cocoa depending on the weather) and cookies or sometimes ice cream, usually a Dilly Bar. My grandpa bought those a dozen for a dollar, they were 10¢ each or 12 for $1 if you bought in bulk.

After Hurricane Katrina 10 of my neighbors wanted to evacuate but couldn't figure out how. I tried to find out where the helicopters were landing. When I returned helicopters were landing in a vacant lot right down the street. But my neighbors dawdled, and missed 8 helicopters that landed. I urged them to hurry up as they missed their chances one after the other. As they dawdled I told them several times they were missing more helicopters than Gilligan. By the time the last helicopter left they had all gotten away. The next day I heard on the radio Bob Denver had died. Gilligan finally caught the helicopter.

I remember reading an early Bob Denver interview after the ESCAPE FROM GILLIGAN'S ISLAND movie, he stated (paraphrasing) 'Gilligan's name was going to be Gil Egan. Every time Gilligan did something Skipper was going to yell GIL EGAN, whatever, and when he REALLY was upset, mention Gil Egan's middle initial like parent may calling out a child. The middle initial was never revealed, every time one of the castaways would yell GIL EGAN, it came out as Gilligan, so it became Gilligan's Island instead of Gil Egan's Island".

The real reason for the show's success is the chemistry between the cast. Replace a single one of them with another actor and the show would not have been as good, as popular or lasted as long. It was foolish to have cut the show as soon as they did. But as this video points out a lot of the Hollywood big wigs don't really have a clue.

7:58 Natalie Schaffer was happy making the pilot because she would get a free trip to Hawaii.
She knew the idea for the show was totally ridiculous and would never come to a series, only to find out it would go to series.
She was not happy about having to relocate to California. But she developed a liking for it eventually and became good friends with Dawn Welles.
11:10 Dawn Welles had a husband who was an agent and he insisted that Welles contract include residuals. This was laughed about because

My all time favorite show as a kid and even love watching with my kids today. I believe kids nowadays can benefit from from watching a show like this one though it may seem old and generic to say the least, the comedy involved never dies. It goes to show even today you don't need all the cursing, nudity and violence to laugh alot. The one thing about this show that always bothered me so much was how often Alan Hale looked at the camera and to be honest I can't believe the producers and directors were ok with it. Everybody loves a good aside but Alan Hale ruined it for me by doing at least 2 per episode and sometimes many more. I just didn't see why it was so necessary.

    • @BigBri550

I loved it as a kid, but I didn't like my kids watching it nowadays. Too much racism like the WWII Japanese hermit played by a non-Japanese actor: another Hollywood trope. And the persistent anti-Pacific-Islander references to "savages" who, again, were never played by authentic Polynesians.
Plus, the whole thing was preposterous to a mindless extent. It is actually painful for me to watch now.
