    Great video! As a 55-year-old man that is on the process of building a wardrove with age-appropriate pieces, quality shoes are something that I am starting to acquire. So far, I have a pair of black oxfords from Meermin, a pair of tan brogues from Johnston and Murphy, a pair of Thursday Boots hickory brown double monks (Saint), a pair of white and also black leather sneakers from Thursday, a pair of tan leather sneaker from Cole Haan, a pair of brandy color Thursday's Captain boots. And I just ordered a pair of brown oxfords (Broadway) with some broguing from Thursday. I am also contemplating ordering a pair of bordbeaux Durant Oxfords from Beckett Simonon and a pair of Wing tip color #77 boots from Thursday's. As you can see, I am covering all my bases. This is only the shoe collection, as far as clothing, I am also acquiring trouser, chinos, good quality jeans, dress and casual shirts along with polos. I am practically done shopping at the mall or department stores where the quality does not match the prices. As men, we need to bring more formality to our attire and stop dressing like overgrown kids. I still remember when most men dressed well (and women) when stepping out of the house - Lets bring that back.

    You might have included Brogues, which are pehaps the most versatile shoe type - they sit in the middle of the formalty spectrum and pair well with anything from Jeans to Chinos to a suit. Also I would never wear sneakers with anything more formal than shorts, jeans or chinos and certainly not a suit.

      I actually think that brogues are less versatile, than classic oxfords.
      The problem is: if you wear shoes in casual occasions - everyone around would not care that your shoes don't have bogging and are juts plain cap-toe oxford.
      But - if you need to wear them in really formal occasions - everyone WILL notice and WILL care that you wear brogues.

    Interesting video. Everyone is going to have variations which depend on activities, climate, experience and practical considerations. I am amazed that influencers recommend leather white sneakers so often. White canvas is "easier" to maintain with baking soda or tooth paste on the scuffs. Have you not considered white bucks? Wingtips or derby versions can be touched up with a chalk powder bag made for that purpose. I would substitute jodhpurs for my boot selection instead of chelsea. The adjustable strap can keep the shoes taunt. Navy canvas CVO's by Sperry are classic for summer and easy to keep clean. They also sell ankle boot varieties that are protected leather. L. L. Bean also. These are great for wet winters and for summer. A split toe derby is a nice shoe that is popular again.

    I liked this video, found you through your Yearn-Review :)
    Concerning the versatility of an oxford however I think you are understating it’s potential here. I personally own a pair of „beechnut” (cognac-ish color) plain cap toe oxfords from Meermin and find myself using them almost as a loafer alternative.
    Sure, it might not work with as informal outfits as a loafer, but with a nice mirror shine, it still covers formal events like a job interview (everything except a funeral imo).
    I am looking forward to seeing more of your content in the near future :)

    Great video, I cant find loafers that fit. I also can't bring myself to wear sneakers with a well fitted suit. Especially when I own so many quality dress shoes such as Yearn, Magnanni, Carlos Santos, TLB, Michael Darren, J Fitzpatrick and Altan Bottier. That being said I do own white trainers. 🙂

    • @Industry.Purity
      @Industry.Purity  Год назад +1

      It's definitely not going to be everyone's cup of tea, or for every occasion. I think the key is a) Making sure the sneakers are really clean and sharp, and b) The suit is already informal by nature. This suit I think just barely fits the bill, though something less structured and more summery in color may be an even better fit. I think when it looks good, it looks really good, though it can be really easy to get wrong or wear for the wrong occasion.
      With a collection like that, though, I can't blame you! I've been thinking hard about picking up a pair of Carlos Santos or TLB lately. Thank you for the comment!

    I love seeing people talk about the humble Chelsea boot. They're just so nice to work with. Bad weather, Chelsea. Great range of formalities, Chelsea. No laces to fluff about with, Chelsea. If I could only have one pair of shoes but the rest of my life, they'd be a pair of Chelsea boots!

    Highly disagree with you on the fact that Oxfords should be worn for the very special occasions for 2 to 4 times a year. They are meant to be worn. In fact they should be the most versatile shoe that you own, especially in a burgundy.

      Completely agree. As an older gentleman, the lowest level of formality I would pair with a suit is a pair of loafers or Chelsea boots, and only on non-formal occasions. Otherwise it's derby brogues at a minimum. Sneakers with a suit is a young man's game, and even at that I think it looks odd...and wrong. Perhaps it's just my age.

      I do. I honestly abuse them pretty badly. I'm not too concerned with it because I can restore them pretty well anytime I want and protect them well, but I would not recommend anyone be as reckless as I am. The TPU studs help alot. I would not wear bare leather soles in inclement weather. I myself am somewhat surprised they have lasted this long.

    • @Industry.Purity
      @Industry.Purity  Год назад +1

      Honestly, if you are referring to in-person storefront locations, it is pretty tricky and I have found it difficult to find literally any that vend these kinds of products. Usually when they do exist, it is a one-off boutique retail firm like Arterton in London, or Meermin in Manhattan. The best option tends to be buying online from these companies. The reason they are such good values is specifically because they don't have in-person stores and commercial rent that is charged for in the price of the shoes.
      Some great companies that have online stores - aside from those mentioned in the video - are Carlos Santos, Justin FitzPatrick, Bridlen, Acme, and TLB Mallorca. There are others, though those are solid options that cover a range of prices and product types.

    Your white sneakers, a bit too sporty. The padding around ankle, and the thing behind achilles. Also the texture thingy in front of sole. Should get something closer to like wholecut oxford look, just plain, not much of accessories.
    Mine would go like this:
    White proper dress leather sneakers.
    Loafers in suave- brown, darker brown, chocolate brown, maybe mid brown. For same reason you got yours- summer etc, but in yours feet will sweat more, plus not as comfy as suave.
    Double monk straps in oxblood museum calf.
    Black whole-cut oxfords (only one dress shoe that is still proper to wear at black tie. Cap toe or plain toe is not). And of course for weddings, business meetings, and funerals, including your own.

    Someday you will be an old man . . . and you'll swap your chelsea boots for brogues and then you'll need another pair in a different color and maybe after that you'll need an original British Trickers stow or Loake Bedale. Soon you'll be poshmarking everything in your closet for brogues from around the world and obsessing about shoe cream in the holes. [The wife asks "Why are there q-tips all over the family room?]
    The point is, start the brogues now and don't waste the time on the Chelsea boots. You can thank me later when you're 50.
