Just got out of a 6 year relationship, with the past 3 slowly beginning the deterioration that led to going our separate ways, and getting cheated on being the nail in the coffin. Its both sad but also hopeful in the sense that even tho the person i loved the most stabbed me in the back is out of my life, i actually have inner peace for the first time in years

i discovered that song in a video game trailer about you playing as a SWAT officer and living through all the man-made horrors, senators getting shot, school shooting, mass murder and you being here to stop and calm the situation, the developpers of this game, Ready or Not made such a good job at choosing the song for this pre-release trailer

Played this song at my grandmother's funeral on 14 October 2017.. She asked me a few days before she died if I could arrange the music at her funeral. It was a very emotional moment and still brings tears back to my eyes but this was one of the songs I picked for her. At her last moments on this earth if let her hear all the songs I picked. At that moment she couldn't speak anymore but in her eyes I saw that she liked it. I love you for ever!!!

      Little late, I know... ! 😉
But in a wider and formal sense he is actually right .
      This movement isn't named "Air"
      by Bach without reason.
The term "Air" is simply an old French word for "song" ,
      meaning exactly that .
The Italian word, that equals it, is
      "aria" !
      The musical form of the piece is a "Lied" -form indeed;
      the main essential of the music is its very "cantabile" melody ;
( or better there are even 3 (!!!)
freely developed melodies in the three upper voices of the first violin, the second violin and the viola over the ever register changing bass line, which provides the harmonic basement.)
In that sense it is really a "song",
but one without any words / lyrics.
That fact, that nobody is singing, doesn't mean, that a piece of music cannot be a "song" as well.
There are many purely instrumental "songs" in baroque and classic music.
You will often find second movements in baroque or classic compositions with several movements, that are composed in an slow "song" -form,
maybe in a form with two halfs ( AB-form) like this "Air",
or in a more extended form,
      for instance in an ABCAB-form.
There are even capable a -capella- ensembles, that perform this piece by singing it (with added lyrics or just with some vocalism )
In the romantic era of the 19.th.century, when the piano would conquer the houses of the uprising bourgoisie, there was even an popular genre of piano music ,
      that would consist solely of
      "songs without words".
For instance Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy composed dozens of them, releasing several albums with the title "Songs without words" for solo piano.
Many of them are very beautiful !❤
And the term "piece" is of course
the most general term that is regarding any music.
Each composition, from the most simple song to the most lengthy and complex symphony, is naturally a "piece" at first.

As a partial Albanian, This song means everything to me. Before I knew that I was Albanian, A feeling of hopelessness would run through me whenever I saw other people who knew that they were Albanian for sure. I wanted to get rid of this feeling, so we decided to get a DNA test for me. While the results itself did not reveal a connection to Albania, they still said that I was Part Albanian because some of my ancestors were Albanian. Sometimes when I sing the lyrics that I wrote to this song, I still cry tears of joy because this moment was very special to me. I am so blessed to be Albanian. Thank you.🇦🇱😭

I thank you so very much for posting this sublime version. It is incredible. I just have heard another version and in search for a slower version, I found yours. But the performance is an incomparably refined one, a performance / interpretation we all need to learn from. I (would like to) believe that this performance would bring lots of peace if played for the Nazi victims and any other suffering soul.

One of the greatest musical compositions of all time! This man was simply a genius in the world of musical compositions. I can only imagine sitting in a concert hall back in the day of Bach and listening intently to the musicians playing this music. Incredible.

It is said that a high ranking Muslim diplomat once commented that Bach's music was so beautiful that it made him want to convert to Christianity.

@@waseemaldemeri7552 I don't think he's saying that, I think he's saying that the Muslim diplomat respected Bach's music so much that he almost went to the same religion as him to show his respect towards him, not because "music is forbidden"

When I was helping plan my wedding, for the life of me, I could not remember the name of this awesome piece; heard it played the previous year, but never caught the name of it. What I wanted to do is have this playing, while guests were coming in & finding their seats. Thankfully, I was able to have Canon in D, and Jesu, Joy of My Desiring played. Nowwww...8 years later, I find this here on YT.

This is, a peculiar life. moments of beauty and joy, often laced with pain and surrounded by disappointment. Yet the true charming parts of mankind seem to shine in the darkest recesses, where there is the least light to make our actions truly shine like stars in such a seemingly empty void that is this place we call home.
