  • Microsoft Edge Stable, Beta, Dev and Canary, currently are creating a shortcut on the desktop after each update. If you want to prevent this, here's how:
    Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\EdgeUpdate
Note: If a key does not exist, right-click on the previous one and select New - Key and rename it accordingly.
Right-click on EdgeUpdate and select New - Dword (32-bit) Value.
    Name it CreateDesktopShortcutDefault.
Double-click on the new Dword and set it to 0.
Keep an eye out for fresh content uploaded regularly.

Now this is the sort of thing that Microsoft should be adding to it's updates - the option to turn this kind behaviour off without having to delve into the registry. Instead, what do we get? Tinkering around the edges with things like more rounded corners!! Thank you for this.

Thank you very much! I seriously doubt Microsoft's increasing arrogance is a bug. Their Android app has recently started occasionally harassing me about setting it as the default, and the best option they can give me is "not now", meaning they can harass me later. I don't have any browser set as a default on my phone so that I can choose depending on what I'm doing.

Thanks! It's an absolute rapist mentality that Microsoft has forcing Edge upon us

i hate Edge with a passion, every single time I uninstall Edge but Microsoft is like NOPE! 2 days later it installed itself again. Aaaarrgghhh. It is not that I think Edge is bad or something but I would like to decide for myself which browser I want. Wish they would stop shoving it down my throat. Sigh

Happens to me as well, Edge has re-installed itself twice so far there must be a way of stopping this as I have to uninstall it every time it appears on my desktop

Yeah I see extra shortcuts that I thought was a bug so I always keep deleting it but after sometimes it gets annoying...
