I don’t wanna sound like an overweight neckbeard, but the song for Gust Planet Act 2 isn’t actually from Sonic CD. It’s a 1991 song called “Take It” by Alex Lee.
Fun fact: In the Netflix Limited series High Score, they used footage of this ROM hack during a segment where they were talking about Sonic and Sega. It was most likely by accident but I like to think that the editors wanted to pay tribute to Sonic Rom Hacks and just so happens to use this one as background footage.
it actually appears again in the final episode! my theory is it wasn't intentional, most likely they searched up footage of 'sonic first level' for green hill zone, and 'sonic next level', hoping to find level 2, but unintentionally got the rom hack. while it does kinda show how little the producers knew about games despite making a documentary on them, it's cool that a sonic rom hack made its way onto netflix, and a cool one too
Wow! Awesome vid, didn't realize it yet, but this blew up! I say you make more titles like this one and more thumbnails like the spy X family one, and u got urself a pretty nice video selection!
I remember playing Sonic: The Next Level back in 2015 using an online emulator. Before I discovered Vaporwave, I thought the ost for this hack was the coolest sounding shit ever! I’m glad to see this getting some more attention.
I remember playing this a few years back, i even saw a video where someone played it on a real genesis. Really shows just how much further you can push the Genesis's limits.
A Romhack can be considered a fangame? Serious question Btw, how funny the "best sonic fangame" consists of 1 level only, crashes once you defeat the boss and that's it Not denying the quality and passion this project shows but that's like calling Project Hero's alpha "the best sonic fan game" (which people have done actually) when isn't even a complete experience, truly just devalues the amount of effort and work other fangames that are actually finished their devs have put into them, being the reason why i find obnoxious when someone talks about how a fan project is considered "the best" out of nowhere
the title for me specifically is incorrect. i haven't heard anyone mention this rom hack in years. last i remember it was a cancelled rom hack. EDIT: 5:20 mehhhhhhhhhhhhh it was somewhat like it from what i remember majority of the rom hack's cancelled full game has been lost to time. but yeah the story was something along those lines
5:39 Actually, no he couldn’t. Planet Wisp is a location in the Modern Sonic Universe. Sonic the Hedgehog: The Next Level (likely) takes place in the Classic Sonic Universe
I don't care what anyone says, Classic Sonic and Modern Sonic are the same character in my eyes. And Sonic Frontiers even suggests the same thing when 'Modern Sonic' has a flashback of when he first met Knuckles with his flashback showing a sprite of 'Classic Sonic'.

I wrote this two minutes into the video without even knowing that at the end of the video, he mentions exactly what I said, fuck.
Well that’s too diddly darn bad!

Yes, but the original Japanese version of it.
@Rishi123456789 what do you mean? They're is no other version because the zone was cut from the game.
Really wish this project was a full game. It’s so pretty.

ME TOO!! i played it on SSEGA.
I feel like a wise elder man for knowing what you were referring to just from the thumbnail 🤧
same
me too . I actually played this epic rom hack years ago.
"I feel like a wise elder man for knowing what you were referring to just from the thumbnail"
So do I, except I haven't played Next Level yet.
SAME
This just gives me nostalgia, seeing all the old fangames again with new eyes
I remember playing this a few years back, i even saw a video where someone played it on a real genesis. Really shows just how much further you can push the Genesis's limits.
Surprised you didn't know about this. The soundtrack so sampled is part of the masterwork here, besides the amazing visuals.
Good video! Keep up the good work. I believe you can make it to the big leagues one day
Markeyjester is literally one of the most prominent members of our community m
YOU DESERVE WAY MORE SUBS, JUST BY THE ORGANIZATION AND LAYOUT, I THOUGHT YOU HAD 1000 SOMETHING SUBSCRIBERS
I played this actually. Motherfuckin' masterpiece.
Also, Sonic Robo Blast 2 wasn't built from the ground up. It's actually based off of a heavily modified version of the Doom Legacy Engine.

@@evdestroy5304 still wouldn't call it "the best" there are better projects out there and some of them are actually fully developed games

It's the best *that you've never played* (most likely). It's in the title ffs
I discovered this game via high score on netflix lol
Now I want to play this mod it's crazy how I have never seen anyone else talk about else
I played Next Level back in 2020, and it introduced me to Alex Lee.
That smooth running Animation will always remind me of Pana Der Hedgehog.
You sound like a young version of cybershell and its freaking me out.
I remember when this one came out! I still admire it!
I know this game, I played a bit of it but it was too hard. It has the Alex Neri song in it.
I would travel different dimensions to see more Sonic games use this 1960's retrofuturistic aesthetic
