This short video is a reply to a question from the most liked comment in our previous Assassin’s Creed short breakdown. Overall, the hidden blade as a weapon is best for a single ambush. Not for multiple ambushes in a day or for dueling. One thing we liked is how in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, they joked about losing a finger with character Basim. While Eivor from AC: Valhalla wields the weapon ideally to avoid losing their finger, it doesn’t solve the real life issue of blood corrosion. However, we understand, it wouldn’t be fun if we had to clean or repair our hidden blade every assassin. We don’t want another Breath of the Wild situation with breakable weapons haha.
Maybe a solution would be to have some type of cloth or rubber tip on the end of the retracting mechanism, so when you retract the blade it will wipe off the blood automatically. This will of course not wipe off all the blood, but it will remove most of the blood so the blade does not get stuck. This way you could use it for multiple consecutive ambushes like you sometimes do in the game, without getting much blood inside of the blade cover/retractive mechanism.
Yea it makes the old edgy saying even dumber on a literal level. “What’s the best way to maintain sword? Constant use.” Like yea it’s cool and all but swords chip and blood is not Clean.
Personally, I like the idea that the hidden blade is almost like a ceremonial weapon to the assassins. It's not the best, and they obviously train with swords and daggers for that reason, but they are almost like a cult that exalts the act of assassination. It's more than killing, it's an art with a ritual surrounding it, and thus it needs a ceremonial tool.
It's not though. Everything this guy said was covered in the games. since this is a fantasy world, the weapon will never fail. And the first hidden blade was dangerous but was later modified.
@@redace4821 I make fun of GoW fans cause all they were doing was talking shit when ER came out those pussies don't say anything now that they know the truth. You can't make an argument and yes I'm talking shit so cope some more 😂
Even in the games it's not the main weapon of the assassins, in combat they use all kinds of melee and projectile weapons and the hidden blade is only a backup. It's main function is to quickly appear-disappear, be stealthy and unexpected. They probably take it apart every night and clean it like any professional worker who takes care of their tools.
Not exactly reasonable because the part where he says the weapon might accidentally stab your arm has already been debunked in assassin Creed 1 where Altair basically "fix" that issues so no more accidentally lost a finger and cleaning a blade isn't that difficult, especially that a hidden blade are small
@@wanderingcommenter4638 it is when you retract the blade this getting blood into the inside this messing with the mechanism , dried blood is annoying to clean and can easily damage the inside mechanism, no assassin would stop and take it apart just to clean it every 30 minutes to a hour, again blood is corrosive. This is why the true best assassin weapon is a knife , you can clean it after each kill with a rag and not have to waste time or worry about the blood ruining the knife, and you obviously don't sheathe a knife covered in blood. I will admit that yes Altair did fix it, but it was Leonardo who truly fixed the hidden blade so you didn't have to sacrifice your pinky to use properly, but I digress.
@@wanderingcommenter4638 and yess cleaning a small blade like the hidden blade isn't hard, it's when it retracts into it's sheathe this covering the mechanism and inside with blood that's the true problem, Wich is what the guy in the video meant.
If i remember correctly, assasins basically had a sort of fabric tied around they're middle finger, and it helps deploy the blade by pulling back the fabric with a wrist motion. So it cant actually deploy into your arm. For the blood thing, yeah i dont have a defense for that.
That was before Altaïr "remodeled" the entire brotherhood and with help of Leonardo Da Vinci, it wasn't really necessary to keep cutting off the finger. Now it just has a ring that goes in your heart finger to pull out the blade, also it has a safety switch to keep the blade from pulling out whenever you open your hand.
Long post lol: Hidden blade is actually more fantastical than realistic. Because in the lore, Altair, one of the legendary Assassin member actually use magic artifact (Piece of Eden) to enhance his intelligent and redesign the weapon to make it more reliable to use like easy retraction and safety. The first ever hidden blade is actually dangerous to use. It hurt the user and he had to lose a finger. But that accident later become a ceremonial ritual, every member have to remove their the ring finger for the purpose of not just to use the blade (before redesign) but also as a sign of dedication. But after redesign, the removal of the finger is not necessary anymore but the ritual still occur but instead of cutting the finger, they just use hot metal then brand it to the finger
Well actually not magic the apple of Eden is a piece of technology used by the people who came before the piece of Eden well the Apple really was used to control humans since they were slaves plus Altair never used the Apple to enhance his intelligence only to just study it from what knowledge the from the Isu
That idea works for about five seconds then the flaws show. One stroke doesn't clean everything and what it doesn't clean will drip further inside the mechanism. The cleaning part even if it worked would need regular swapping even if not used because of blades needing cleaning and to cover a clean blade in that mechanism will just soil it again. These are the major ones I can effectively describe. Edit: So people can read everything here. I will indent the suggestions I disproved for easier answers. Cloth A built in cloth can and will cause the blade to get dirtier as a result of the cloth obviously trapping the blood in. It's the same reason you clean rags before using them to clean again. Maintenance A more advanced self cleaning mechanism is a more maintenance intensive tool and will require far more maintenance and intense maintenance aswell as higher missfire and jamming risk. "Blood movement" Yes, the blood will move deeper into the mechanism, assassins are prolific climbers and many stances aswell as most hidden blade stance raise the blades and will cause blood to drip deeper in. "Master assassins" "No plan survives first contact" is famous words which all generals know well and to plan for one kill missions is to plan without a backup.
@Devin G Any tool requires regular maintenance. Soldiers have to clean their rifles after a fight so it's not hard to imagine an assassin taking apart and cleaning the blade after a mission.
@@brodyleephotography2177 Ok then here is another major flaw in adding an self cleaning mechanism and something every soldier can tell you is true. The more advanced something is, the more moving parts it has, the more moving parts, the more problems arise and what do you think the consequences of adding more moving parts to an mechanism is going to do? Especially one of the old world. Jams, missfires, etc. Second,I never denied maintenance is a valid thing. In fact on other comments here I have mentioned it would be simpler and safer to just disassemble it and throughly replace and clean parts. The whole point of me saying how flawed this thought is, and its founding on it making the weapon more dangerous and unclean.
@@ChangedCauseYT-HateFoxNames I'm not denying the facts of either of your replies, although, with the idea that I have described, there is no extra moving parts
@@ChangedCauseYT-HateFoxNames If the blade simply glides across a cloth or something then there aren't any more moving parts, the blade is still performing the same motion it otherwise would have, an argument could be made that maybe the blade could get stuck on the fabric however these two arguments can also be made about the blade and mechanism in and of itself, and so we're back to it not being a good weapon to begin with.
Where Logan speaks of accidental deployment, its shows the assassins with a missing ring finger. In AC: Origins that finger is lost due to the blade deploying practically on accident. Even though it was a moment of desperation during a fight, it costs a Bayek that finger.
i like a the concept of a templar(for example) holding the hand of the assassin down so he cant se the hidden blade makes sense, they both fight each others a long time
Lore-wise, the Blades are actually cleaned every now and then, and replaced if neccessary. We just don't see it in the Games, because it's not a Gameplay Mechanic. The "accidental activation" is something that was actually acknowledged inside the Games (most obviously in "Origins" where that's basically why Bayek lost his finger by an accident). The release mechanism is on a sling attatched to the user's finger (most of the time, on the middle and the ring fingers). It's just something the Assassins always have to think of.
Ye and this dude comentating it is rly stupid abd hasnt played the game neither read it if u look at every assasins they have a missing ring finger and also the blade is not for close hand combat its for surprise attacks that dude is dumb and should do some reaserch before making this vid
And also what i think by losing his weapon had was that it would pierce thru the wrsit but u cant deploy the blade without having ur wrist on the outside bc otherwise it wint deploy
@@Nifl.5.h3im That too, but he did mention in some other video that he's mostly talking about the fingers. Because if it went through your wrist, that can be taken care of. If it went through your fingers, you'd loose them for good.
@@desharrsaddler5305 They started doing it because Bayek cut his finger off by an accident, while trying to kill one of his targets. After that they started doing it ceremonially as a symbol of believing in the Creed.
This was actually a problem in the earlier versions of the hidden blade. The blade would cut the wielders fingers off so the brotherhood preemptively cut the finger when initiating new members into the brotherhood. But a newer better version designed by Leonardo da Vinci actually fixed this issue because it was easier for the templars to recognize an assassin by just looking at their hand and see if they had lost their ring fingers.
That was actually retconned later on. The oldest versions of the hidden blade never were intended to harm the wielder. Bayek the founder accidentally deployed the hidden blade with a closed fist and it took his ring finger in the process. When he began to form the early brotherhood members began ritualistically removing their ring finger as part of their initiation to show their dedication to the brotherhood. By the time of Ezio this stopped being common practice likely due to the fact the Templars could easily track members of the brotherhood as missing the ring finger of the non-dominant hand would be an easy to notice feature for anyone observant. In AC Valhalla members of the Hidden Ones confirm they intentionally removed their ring fingers as part of joining the Hidden Ones when Eivor comments on the hidden blade and implying they accidentally cut them off.
@@notsojoyboy425 personally I would still consider that accidental, yes it was life or death but I'd say his intentions were more along the line of saving his own life with the lose of his finger being a consequence of his hurried action.
@@freddyaxebear7547 Personally I would not consider that accidental. Clearing his fingers from the blade would have been muscle memory for someone so highly trained so even the thought of deploying his weapon closed fist would have have to have been an intentional decision. It was an intentional decision to lose a finger rather than his life. Obviously the tool was not designed to do so but that does not make his actions an accident.
@@brianjc720 Bayek was not traditionally trained to use the hidden blade, he received it as a gift a short time before the event of using it caused him to lose his finger. So he had to learn how to use the tool himself, as well not having it for a very long time. Also Bayek could have actually deployed the hidden blade with a closed fist and not lost his finger, he would have simply had to have rolled his wrist back as the hidden blade runs parallel to the arm and not the hand. He was in a panicked state and being drowned, if he was thinking more clearly he would have avoided hurting himself. While yes the attacker was holding Bayek's hand closed in a fist, if he rolled his fist back (which would be easy given his attacker was holding the top of his hand and not locking the wrist) and deployed the blade he would have slashed his attackers arm and still broken free. Even professionals make bad choices and accidents happen, especially when working with new equipment and under extreme circumstances. He could have easily have rolled his wrist forward and accidentally skewered his own hand instead in that situation.
Assassins are very skilled in using the hidden blade and it only opens in a very specific hand position, plus i think that every assassins cleans his blade and its mechanism really will after a mission
And you can change a bit the retract mechanism to clean it. Wet blood don't stuck on the metal. You can add little sheet on the wrist area of the mechanism to give it basic cleaning
First point, definitely. Second point, wouldn't matter. Given the frequency the blades are seen used in the games, sticking into people over a dozen times in a single day, extracting & retracting every single time, blood would accumulate & dry inside the whole thing so quickly, that just doing the extracting & retracting alone would damage the insides before the day ends.
The issue no.1 is dealt with the users of the blade cutting off their ring finger so that even if it does activate by accident, it would not hurt their hands. Altair remodeled this part to ensure the weapon never requires the sacrifice
they wipe it off in some cutscenes and even if they dont they list how they are taught to clean them after, a bonus is it lists that the tech is made to have the blade sent out when the wrist turns away from it so that shouldnt be a problem, and the finger thingy is there because the wrist blade is situated so that it woud only be capable of harming the finger that is no longer there
@@drhody4229It wasn't a retcon, it's acknowledged in the games that initial finger removal ceremony was done away with by Altair later on and in Ezios new order. Since its kind of a massive stupid giveawayto give your assassins. As soon as it's noticed they lack their finger, that'll be the immediate first check people will do and blending in becomes way harder. Hiding your hands would also be suspicious in that scenario.
The position he demonstrated in the video showed how you can point the wrist away while having your hand over the mechanism. It'd need to be a more distinct and pronounced feature to actually be safe enough to wear properly. It's also not really any better than a dagger up the sleeve. One can be easily pocketed and the other is a brace firmly attached to your arm that can be noticed.
I remember hearing from somewhere that some assassins (Edward specifically) changed it so that it activates with more subtle movements which is why he could use it in combat so easily
@@NeutralGuyDoubleZeroFrom what I've seen, the actual blade does not have a brace, its just the blade and two belts, the braces were part of the clothing
This is the same reason samurai and ninja first draw their sword along the crook of their elbow before sheathing it. It removes the blood from the blade.
@@thecommentguy9380 For sure, it's a dirty job, but someone's gotta do it. That's why the ninja always wore black, you couldn't see the stains as easily. Everyone thought it was to be sneaky at night, but really it was to save on laundry detergent.
That's a Hollywood trope and it does not happened in history. A samurai always bring a few white cloth with him so when he killed some guy, take out one cloth and wipe all the blood, or just use the other guy's clothes. More practical, safer, less messy
For your first point, look at how many assassins use it. They pull their hand back, and clench their fist, and use the blade similarly to a palm strike, showing there are protective measures to stop an addicental stabbing with the blade
The original design had the wearer put a ring in their middle finger to activate it. I think it's fair to assume that you had to move your entire hand in order to activate it. I mean put your hand flat on a table then try to lift your pinky... The base of it, where the ring would be, barely moves at all.
Also his point about supposedly losing your weapon hand just shows his complete lack of knowledge of assassins creed as we clearly see that all assassins who wear only one hidden blade wear it on their offhand (or arm I guess) and those that do wear two still primarily use the offhand one for assassinations
Your traditionally supposed to have it in your off hand. and originally, while not necessary, the removal of the ring finger was done to prevent injury during combat. Later Altair fixed the issue with the blade danger of the hand allowing skilled users to dual wield the weapon. Although the blood would still be a very big issue, I believe it could be fixed with various fairly accessible methods in the time periods the weapon was used. Great video, very educational
I'm in the belief that the early hidden blade during the time of Altair as a master assassin needs his hand as a fist to keep it on. but when he fixed it under the guidance of the apple, it now works like a retractable ballpoint. Flex wrist -> on, Flex wrist -> off. Flex wrist with hand in the way -x nope.
@@TheHammerGuy94I feel it was more of a comfort thing for Altaïr. He extends the blade with an open palm then forms a fist with the stub of his ring finger resting on the blade which, in my opinion aswell, would feel more comfortable than having your fingers stretched out to avoid the blade. He'd be able to keep the tension in his forearm with a closed fist to keep the blade extended.
Modifications so it'd be better: 1. Make a simple mechanism to clear off blood when retracting blade 2. Put blade on upper part of arm where hand can't bend 3. Add a unique trigger to activate the blade 4. Make the blade slightly stronger by adding a hook/grove (groove?) into the blade for a more lethal attack
3 of those were present in 3 games Altaïr Ibn La'ahad modified the blade's design to still be able to have it on the underside of the arm and not lose the ring finger although Eivor Varinsdottir still wore it on top of his arm due to his sense of honor The Turkish brotherhood made the hook blade to help with climbing and to steal from opponents while in combat Before Altaïr modified the hidden blade, the Levantine brotherhood wore a ring over their amputated ring finger to deploy and retract the blade as needed
Well not exactly. The first Assassin (Bayek) lost his finger accidentally when he did not know how to use it properly and since then each assassin cut their fingers showing dedication and making a sacrifice to the creed. But they also did it for that reason

There's a reason why before Leonardo got a hold of it you had to remove your ring finger. In addition to being a representation of your commitment, it made sure you wouldn't take the finger off on accident when the blade deployed
@@unfusedmolecule1649 it was lost to the ages til Leonardo fixed it, and the man himself said he modified the hidden blade to not need to cut off your finger
Note: Leonardo never said HE had modified it. If I recall correctly, the dialog went "Although the blade once required a sacrifice, it's been modified. You can keep your finger." Giovanni's blade had already been modified with Altair's Codex BEFORE Leonardo got his hands on it. Remember, the hidden blade schematics already belonged to Giovanni before the events of AC2 take place!
The accidental deployment issue was actually an issue in the franchise for a long time, with any users losing their ring finger by using it. I don't remember how it was solved, but it is no longer an issue. As for the cleaning, I believe it's designed so it is very compact which leaves no space for blood to enter the mechanisms when retracted and it is wiped off by the sheath.
Well the finger cutting tradition was solved by Altair in his codex which is why tge Ezio blades which da Vinci modified using the codex knowledge did not need a ring finger cut off
It's canonic that Altaïr fixed the mechanism issue, because the one Darius invented was meant to be worn over the arm not under. Altaïr just added a mechanism that used a detachable ring tied to the blade to pull it off, meaning that the blade won't come off unless your finger is in the ring, for it to be safe.
@@marvingrande8438 That's a common misunderstanding but Revelations shows that it was a knowledge of Altaïr after achieving full control over the fruit of eden.
An assassins creed game where you actually have to make sure your blade is cleaned off with a button press or at least an idle animation of it happening
I’ve seen some people work around the issue by attaching a ring with a string to the ring finger. Keep your fist closed when you’re not using it, then pull it out by opening your hand.
corrosive to the steel. Blood usually carries oxygen, which when exposed to iron, will rust. so while in hiding, maybe assassins would wipe them off, or even disassemble their blades to wipe off the blood.
The blade isn’t automatic (that I know of). It’s operating with a string attaching the gauntlet to the ring or middle finger. The reason why assassins always bend their wrist upwards is to activate the blade.
There was actually a problem with the original hidden blade WAS accidental deployments. The Templars quickly found out how to identify assassin’s because accidental deployments of their hidden blade had a tendency to cut off their ring finger(s). If I remember correctly, the newer hidden blades fixed this problem by not having the deployment method be a literal string tied to a ring on your finger.
Altair: Laughs in apple. also, note in his later years where he has 2 blades, he has his all his fingers on his right hand. To disprove those commenters that Leo modified the blade, here's a clip of Ezio's dad, the previous owner of Ezio's blade, with ALL his fingers intact ruclips.net/video/vcE8xJkK6t4/видео.html
Thats why all assassins would intentionally cut off their ring finger from AC origins to AC2, as a sort of tribute to bayek, but after AC2 da vinci alters the blade to make it impossible to accidentally slice off a finger
@@PremiumSoupGirl Leo didn't fix that. He read that in Altair's codex (to fix his ezio's blade) that Altair fixed that issue when he was mentor. Evidence? The Prequel short AC Lineage (here ruclips.net/video/vcE8xJkK6t4/видео.html) shows Giovanni with all his fingers intact. Ezio inherits Giovanni's gear.
@@TheHammerGuy94 assassins afterward still did learn from altairs codex though… must have been through either da vinci or the assassins somehow. Because Arno and The Frye twins don’t have missing ring fingers 🤷♂️ although I don’t get why assassins after Ezio don’t have 2 hidden blades (I mean unity-syndicate mainly)
That’s why they cut their finger off so that the blade doesn’t stab them in a bad position, pretty sure that’s why when the finger sacrifice was no longer necessary that it was such a big deal
Let me geek here for a little bit. What you said was true about losing your finger when the deployment of the blade launch such as the first assassin Bayek, Leonardo DaVinci modified the string length so you can keep one of you 10 meat sticks. The assassins hidden blade was just specifically used for assassinations not in battle . And I also think the blades are stainless steel.
- It is super easy to conceal and draw. - There is no fumbling involved where you accidentally drop the damn knife. - It leaves your hand free to parkour. - No one expects you to do that so they are usually surprised. It is quicker than drawing a knife.
It's actually not fully automatic, certain gestures are necessary to activate it. To get around the blood thing, it's likely that some kind of covering that can wipe down the blade could be integrated into the mechanism itself. Worst case scenario, you have to wipe it down manually.
That's why initially they cut of there ring finger so the blade didnt get impeded. But then people seeing that led to them suspecting them to be assassins and that's when the design changed.
Altair fixed the missing ring finger and dangerous activation part of the hidden blade after the game so no assassin after him would need to lose any fingers or hands.
@@Ligmaballin as Altair says in the codex, it was an useless tradition. If they can keep their finger, then be it. This helps them because, well, first you're not missing a finger, and second, guards can't just look at your hand and go "that guy must be an assassin, keep an eye on him".
@@andrewrights Fair enough, i guess it's an old tradition. One of my favorite parts about Valhalla was where Eivor just said "Nah fuck that, im keeping my finger" because it just made so much more sense lol. it's kinda ironic how the old assassin's cut of their fingers which helped them climb and do parkour, like you're literally sacrificing your mobility and stamina because you can't hold from ledges that long now.
You can replace the blades after opening and cleaning the mechanism. The frame could also be designed to scrape most of the blood off as it retracts. With it being made for stabbing only, you could make the tool out of cheap alloys. If you don't want to stab yourself, is a glove with a small, hard piece in the palm of you hand or make the angle it's mounted at wider... As for your fingers 🤷 be careful. Of course, it doesn't have to be under the palm, it could be mounted on the side of your wrist. I liked the spike the assassin had in Smokin Aces more than the blade design. Likely easier to clean, simpler design, and more concealable.
To be fair, that’s why before Ezio, the assassins had to cut off their ring finger. Also, the blade deploys by pulling a ring with a string wrapped around it. So the blade doesn’t deploy with your hand in the way.
@@kojeb again, like he said after ac2 the hidden blade has no chance to accidentally chop your fingers off, bayek lost his finger before the assassins were even a thing
So for starters assassins wear their blades on the left hand which unless they are lefty’s (which as we know there aren’t) I’d not their weapon hand, and also you can assume they are cleaned because after you assassinate they are cleaned already.
First you use soft clothing at the mouth of the opening. This way that clothes wipes away the blood. Second you can make the weapon draw manual so that you can control which position you want it to come out and retraction can be automatic.
The weapon is only deployed when you’re hand is spread out not automatic and they actually do polish their blade’s solved by Yusuf in assassins creed revelations and they tend to use it in stealth I mean they’re called the assassins and/or hidden ones for a reason unless if we’re talking about Eivor
The Hidden blade is only meant for thrusting, not for slashing. You see the slashing with the hidden blade from assassins creed 2 and onward . Looks cool, but not realistic😅
Thats do to modifications made by Altair. His redesign of the hidden blades combined with his revolutionizing of hidden blade combat by adding a metal plate to the gauntlet to allow parrying for lack of better term. Although the way the blades are used is mostly wrong, it is an decent backup weapon considering the times.
The blade is actually modified by leonardo da vinci in brotherhood so it doesn't require a finger sacrifice second thing most hidden blades are activated by the ring there is a string on the ring so if you do rhe gesture to activate the blade it will slide ouy it wouldn't be deployed while your hand is in that possition and the last thing if you try to stab someone with your version of the blade a.k.a the manual version it wouldn't penetrate your target it would simply go inside
And some Hidden Blades use an pressure button instead of the ring so you need to use an muscle which isn't used normally so you can put your hand in the right position before letting it snap out
Fun fact: do you ever wonder why every assasins from assasins creed have they're finger cut off? well it is because they use it as a lever like to attract and rettract the blade any time they want it, so thats why they dont get nervous about they're hands will be stab by accident
I agree with you on all points except one the damage to the fighting hand the hidden blade as a weapon is wielded on the off hand and not on the main fighting hand the only reason its shown mostly on the left hand is because most assassins are right handed. except for those times where an assassins wields 2 blades in which case you are 100% right.
This is why the design I had for a wrist mounted short sword had a replaceable cloth cartridge at the front, so that it would absorb the blood and clean the blade as it retracts. It was also a design that could be disassembled in the field with minimal tools to fully clean the blade. The cloth inserts were there so it could clean most of it off and still function in the case of large amounts of combat where you would be extending and retracting the blade a lot, also it’s a 26in blade mounted on the top of the wrist that is supposed to be a design that uses slight magic just make it work but for practical use non magically the other design is a 13 inch fighting blade
I'm an engineer and as a sort of hobby I tried to experiment a little on how to create the hidden blade. For the mechanism, there should be a mechanical stop acting as a safety, which you could activate/deactivate with the non armed hand (meanwhile the blade deployment would still be made from the same hand on which the blade is located); for the blood rusting it, it could be that the blade has a sort of wool inside at the end of the canal so that when the blade is retracted it is cleaned (for the most part, but I admit that I'm being overly generous to the wool here).
a good thing about the actual hidden blade design is its based on the movement of your middle or ring finger, when it's far enough away from the blade to protrude without causing damage, it releases, and as the hand goes back towards the blade, it sheathes.
This short video is a reply to a question from the most liked comment in our previous Assassin’s Creed short breakdown. Overall, the hidden blade as a weapon is best for a single ambush.

The hidden blade is for the single target quick final blow because you can launch the blade in the enemy so quick

Long post lol:
Hidden blade is actually more fantastical than realistic.
The first user of hidden blade is Darius, he put the hidden blade on top of his arm (just like Eivor). He didn't lose a finger.

"A gimmick is something that works every time except the one time you need it."
I like the idea that during the retract of the blade, it glides through a fabric or a seal to remove any blood or debris.
Cloth
A built in cloth can and will cause the blade to get dirtier as a result of the cloth obviously trapping the blood in. It's the same reason you clean rags before using them to clean again.
Maintenance
A more advanced self cleaning mechanism is a more maintenance intensive tool and will require far more maintenance and intense maintenance aswell as higher missfire and jamming risk.
"Blood movement"
Yes, the blood will move deeper into the mechanism, assassins are prolific climbers and many stances aswell as most hidden blade stance raise the blades and will cause blood to drip deeper in.
"Master assassins"
"No plan survives first contact" is famous words which all generals know well and to plan for one kill missions is to plan without a backup.
Even though it was a moment of desperation during a fight, it costs a Bayek that finger.
i like a the concept of a templar(for example) holding the hand of the assassin down so he cant se the hidden blade

Also davincis design removes the problem of accidental deployment. Hence assassins don't really need to pre-cut their finger anymore

Shanks:about that....

They started doing it because Bayek cut his finger off by an accident, while trying to kill one of his targets.
@@freddyaxebear7547 bayek didnt do it accidentally lol. he had to do it. because the other dude grab his fist

Altair remodeled this part to ensure the weapon never requires the sacrifice
they wipe it off in some cutscenes and even if they dont they list how they are taught to clean them after, a bonus is it lists that the tech is made to have the blade sent out when the wrist turns away from it so that shouldnt be a problem, and the finger thingy is there because the wrist blade is situated so that it woud only be capable of harming the finger that is no longer there
Until they retconned removing your finger in AC2

Modifications so it'd be better:
1. Make a simple mechanism to clear off blood when retracting blade
2. Put blade on upper part of arm where hand can't bend
3. Add a unique trigger to activate the blade
4. Make the blade slightly stronger by adding a hook/grove (groove?) into the blade for a more lethal attack
3 of those were present in 3 games
Altaïr Ibn La'ahad modified the blade's design to still be able to have it on the underside of the arm and not lose the ring finger although Eivor Varinsdottir still wore it on top of his arm due to his sense of honor
The Turkish brotherhood made the hook blade to help with climbing and to steal from opponents while in combat
Before Altaïr modified the hidden blade, the Levantine brotherhood wore a ring over their amputated ring finger to deploy and retract the blade as needed
That’s why assassins are missing a finger, so that if the blade ever retracts like that, it doesn’t stab them

That's why they removed their finger, so it didn't get in the way. Plus you have a specific motion to activate it
thats why combat knifes exist
Assassin's cut their ring finger off for the blade not to hurt them
Nah the hidden blade has a secret cloth that cleans it as it retracts and after every fight the cloth is replaced
The part was on your wrist, has caught in it to clean the blade
I agree with you on all points except one the damage to the fighting hand the hidden blade as a weapon is wielded on the off hand and not on the main fighting hand the only reason its shown mostly on the left hand is because most assassins are right handed. except for those times where an assassins wields 2 blades in which case you are 100% right.
Okay but where did he get that fly ass jacket from
Not cleaning it seems more like a user error than an issue with the weapon itself.
And that second point is exactly how Bayek lost his finger 😂
Do what ezio figured out and move it forward a tad, and that gives you more reach too
