I just watched Floor sing this, in a much better recorded concert. I love Floor and she's WAY better than that other singer they had, but Tarja is untouchable. She's in another league.
Floor had the disadvantage of singing to a downtuned version of this song because the band did not want to carry several guitars and basses with different tunings therefore it sounds less impressive than Tarja's version here but thats not really her fault she still did a good job with it.

@@MrRoziuke the band has been downtuning songs live long before Floor ever joined. This is the explanation they give, I am just the messenger. Besides both Floor and Tarja have the same top end range, they both can sustain all the way to D6. There is not a single note in Stargazers which would even remotely be a problem for Floor to hit. Tarja is just a little bit more powerful with her head voice but changing the key by 1 step won't make Floor sing any louder as she is more comfortable in her upper range.
@@gencoserpen1260 Floor's head voice isn't big & with every note/half a note it becomes smaller and thinner while Tarja remains big ,robust,open&resonant .It's not a problem to hit a single note , the difficulty is in the long line of notes with quite significant jumps in pitches keeping the same strength and volume :) , Floor struggles with it even in a lower register ,though in general she manages the song quite tolerably . Floor is loud in upper register only in pushed strained chest.

Even small bands carry two guitars and have different tuned songs, who the fuck even thought that was a good excuse? Their singers could never in a million years sing this song in this key. This song made Tarja break in tears in the earliest of her career of how hard it was for her to sing and she only mastered it when she went solo and could explore her voice at her own pleasure without assholes yelling at her and calling her a bitch. Fun fact of the day.
This is the BEST Version EVER of Stargazers!!! It is even better than the studio version recorded almost 2 decades ago... lol Tarja is getting older and her voice changes like everybody, BUT this is like the Hardest song to sing Nightwish ever made! Fast tempo, almost no time to breath, high singing registers... This prooves that she still got it, and her technique even improved! ;) Thanks so much Londinium for having recorded this one! Just WoW! This should have been also recorded profissionally! again, the BEST Version EVER of Stargazers!!! :D
If you sing higher notes you don't actually need to breath much to produce notes, which is why if you notice a lot of lower voiced singers are "slow" they actually have to take in a lot more air then a soprano to sing as such soprano's can sing faster.
María F. Luna Absolutely! Floor isn't even able to sing this song in the proper key. They had to dumb it down for her and lower the key. If there's any doubt about who the superior vocalist is, this song proves it beyond any doubt! I've got nothing against floor, but a lot of the neo-nightwish fans are going about saying how floor is so great and that she's even better than Tarja. That simply isn't true and this song is proof positive. floors good and she has ways of hiding here imperfections, but she's no Tarja Turunen. Tarja is 10 years older since she left the band and has had a child since then. Both of these things have to have affected her voice. Yet she sings this song exactly as it was intended and seems to do so effortlessly. Floor has to have the song lowered an octave.

For someone with a lower voice, it would be more difficult singing it higher rather than lower. Floor sometimes has trouble with really high notes and either goes off key or sounds very thin and strained. That pretty much proves she lacks the upper end extension Tarja has. A prime example of this is phantom of the opera. When floor has tried to sing that she's had trouble with those really high notes at the end. Floor just doesn't have the upper end Tarja has and her belting in most of her singing hides this.
+Ligeia Noire And noone needs to be compared. Tarja owns this, Anette owns Scaretale, Floor owns GLS. For all of his faults, Tuomas Holopainen always had excellent taste in singers. Sucks that all the fandom seems to do is compare, compare, compare.
Man Hi! Yes but they keep on making comparing videos of them singing the same songs not to mention old songs sang by previous singers cannot help but bring memories. One is only human.
Actually, I know Nightwish since their early days in 1998 and for me, Tarja is still the vocalist I like most of them, but I never compared them. It's stupid, because they're inherently different in so many ways. In fact, at one festival, After Forever (with Floor) were performing their Prison Of Desire and Decipher stuff only an hour before Nightwish (who were the main act that evening) and I was totally blown away by Floor. She was a young girl, just 20 years old, with an absolutely amazing live voice and stunning stage presence. Many, including me, had never heard AF before but all agreed that they're awesome. When Tarja was fired, my personal favorites for filling the void were a) Floor, b) Vibeke (from Tristania) and c) Melissa Ferlaak. Took quite some time until Floor finally made it, and I wonder what she would have said back on the day of the gig she was singing with AF an hour before Nightwish (I think, it was 2002) if someone had told her, one day she would sing for Nightwish :) I've recently seen them live with Floor and she's still awesome live, maybe more so than back in those old days.

@cinthyawithin yo estaba en la platea de la izquierda (vista desde el campo) primera fila asiento 15... es la primera vez que voy a platea en el luna; muy lejos para mi gusto pero me parece que desde el campo es muy dificil filmar.., por suerte con el zoom a full se acerca bastante aunque se desenfoca mas facilmente, pero se la banca la camarita, ya tiene varios recitales encima... I can honestly say I've never been really impressed by Tarja's live performances, but it sounds like she's maybe gotten better? She actually sounds good here. Idk why she didn't just sing this well while she was singing Nightwish songs WITH Nightwish. Didn't Tuomas say he didn't give her permission to perform his material on her own, by the way?
+BleedTheWineUnholy In my opinion it was only in her last years with NW ('03/04) that her voice was less good.. If you watch earlier NW live performances (for example on From Wishes To Eternity) her voice sounds much more 'fuller' and better controlled.. But yeah, in this vid she seems to hit the notes pretty well. Perhaps she wanted to go back to those early days and got some singing lessons.
I've seen them in the old days (1998 until the breakup) multiple times in various locations. I think, Tarja had her best times during the Oceanborn, Wishmaster and Century Child tours, all of them were amazing performances by the entire band and Tarja was always in good vocal shape. Stargazers was rarely on the set list, I think I heard it only once live (must have been the European Oceanborn tour) and it was pretty good, but the song is know to be difficult and very demanding on the voice, especially when performed daily.
Legally she does not need permission. She helped make the song so she co-owns royalties and only performs it Live. She has never re-recorded it and tried to pass it off as her own via an album.
Que gran cantante la verdad, lastima que se haya vuelto tan arrogante y egocéntrica, yo me pongo en los zapatos de Tuomas y entiendo sus razones de echarla, lo mas importante en una banda es conservar la armonía y la unidad entre los miembros y si de 5 que eran, 1 estaba inconforme, pues la puerta estaba muy ancha. Es cierto, Nightwish le debe mucho a Tarja pero Tarja tambien le debe mucho a Nightwish, su voz brilla gracias a las composiciones de Tuomas por eso sigue cantando sus canciones en sus conciertos ademas de que ella se hizo famosa gracias a la banda, porque de no haberla fichado en un inicio, ahora seguramente seria una cantante mas de soprano en Finladia pero no seria tan famosa mundialmente como lo es y no hubiera cantado las grandiosas canciones que le conocemos o me imagino otra Sarah Brightman cantando canciones pop en lirico XD.

I can honestly say I've never been really impressed by Tarja's live performances, but it sounds like she's maybe gotten better? She actually sounds good here. Idk why she didn't just sing this well while she was singing Nightwish songs WITH Nightwish. Didn't Tuomas say he didn't give her permission to perform his material on her own, by the way?
+BleedTheWineUnholy In my opinion it was only in her last years with NW ('03/04) that her voice was less good.. If you watch earlier NW live performances (for example on From Wishes To Eternity) her voice sounds much more 'fuller' and better controlled.. But yeah, in this vid she seems to hit the notes pretty well. Perhaps she wanted to go back to those early days and got some singing lessons.

I've seen them in the old days (1998 until the breakup) multiple times in various locations. I think, Tarja had her best times during the Oceanborn, Wishmaster and Century Child tours, all of them were amazing performances by the entire band and Tarja was always in good vocal shape.
Stargazers was rarely on the set list, I think I heard it only once live (must have been the European Oceanborn tour) and it was pretty good, but the song is know to be difficult and very demanding on the voice, especially when performed daily.

Sure. She invited him for coffee the day before.
Legally she does not need permission. She helped make the song so she co-owns royalties and only performs it Live. She has never re-recorded it and tried to pass it off as her own via an album.

Que gran cantante la verdad, lastima que se haya vuelto tan arrogante y egocéntrica, yo me pongo en los zapatos de Tuomas y entiendo sus razones de echarla, lo mas importante en una banda es conservar la armonía y la unidad entre los miembros y si de 5 que eran, 1 estaba inconforme, pues la puerta estaba muy ancha.
Es cierto, Nightwish le debe mucho a Tarja pero Tarja tambien le debe mucho a Nightwish, su voz brilla gracias a las composiciones de Tuomas por eso sigue cantando sus canciones en sus conciertos ademas de que ella se hizo famosa gracias a la banda, porque de no haberla fichado en un inicio, ahora seguramente seria una cantante mas de soprano en Finladia pero no seria tan famosa mundialmente como lo es y no hubiera cantado las grandiosas canciones que le conocemos o me imagino otra Sarah Brightman cantando canciones pop en lirico XD.
