    You would make more working hourly due to traffic. Other companies have a daily guarantee or hourly plus overtime and double time. That way they don’t rush and are safer drivers. For example $350 for a 10 hour day or $380 for night. Or some companies pay 30/hr plus overtime

    In LA, companies are now paying between $28-32/hr plus overtime without any endorsements as a company driver. When you do the math that’s ok. No hoops, miles, games. Just straight hourly plus OT. Safer driving and you don’t get cut short out of your work/money.

    • @carloscervantes836
      @carloscervantes836 2 года назад +1

      What are some of those companies?

    • @guesswhooldtimer2358
      @guesswhooldtimer2358 2 года назад

      @@carloscervantes836 - The reality is there are enough hourly drivers that will sandbag which causes workload for those who already work hard. I’m not into that. In addition many companies expected even require a 13 hour plus day. Maybe even 6 day dispatch. Piece work equipment more effort means more money. Less effort means less money. At J B Hunt most of the year I can work a 6th day if I would like to or need to make extra money. Another point I would like to emphasize is start times. When I started at J B I had a 20:00 start time. Three months later I was given a 07:00 start time. It took me 4 years to get a 0:500 start time. No music chairs scenario with the working around the clock. 05:00 start works great for my family and I. Period.
      I ain’t gettin rich but they treat me with respect and dignity. That’s worth more than just making money.

    How are the customer loading areas, would you say very tight and close quarter backing? Im at swift and thinking about the transition. I do a lot of local small shipper live loads. And some of these shippers are crazy tight. Is jb hunt similar?

    • @thezentrucker
      @thezentrucker  2 года назад

      Definitely a variety. We go to a lot of places with big open yards. And we go to some little mom & pop places with tight chaotic yards. What’s nice about JB Hunt is…if I go to a place that’s really bad, I have the option of terminating the load.

  • @timmy31987
    @timmy31987 3 года назад +1

    I’m at a satellite yard so we operate a little different. I start with a pickup in WI and take it to the rail in Chicago, then take a load out of Chicago and back up to WI. I like to do crosstowns in between if I can. I was curious how the guys who start out at the rail run their day.

    • @thezentrucker
      @thezentrucker  3 года назад +1

      Depends on the rail hub. The Los Angeles market is pick up heavy, especially later in the week. But...most days we start at the rail, grab a load to deliver to customer. Then we’ll get a pickup coming back to the rail. Most days we’ll then do 1 or 2 more pickups. Sometimes we’ll get another delivery followed by pickup.
      We’re also doing a lot of multi-stop pickups that get delivered to Walmart DC. So, today for example, I’m doing a delivery that I grabbed at the rail, followed by a 2 stop pickup going Walmart. I’ll then likely get a pickup coming back to rail from Walmart to finish my day.

      I’ve had a few weeks where I grossed close to $2k. Usually weeks when I work a holiday I can get $1800-1900. But there are drivers who work weekend wrap night shift that can make that on a regular basis.

    I know you worked at Schneider before. Did you look into their intermodal before going to JB? If so why did you pick JB vs a transfer to SNI Intermodal? Reason I ask is they both run out of a rail yard near me and am considering going to intermodal. I currently do not work for either company.

    • @thezentrucker

      Nope, didn’t realize Schneider had intermodal. I just went to JB cuz I knew they had the biggest footprint in intermodal of any company.
